Photos of the desk I built out of a piece of MDF from home depot and a couple of shelf brackets screwed into the wall. The desk also includes a cool little usb hub/grommet from belkin. It's pretty minimal in size, I really like it. :)

I decided that with a new year and a new camera, I wanted to give a 365 sort of project a try. In this case, I just want to do a general photo-a-day thing where I do my best to post at least 1 photo per day, with that photo actually being taken on each given day. This should give me no excuse to not find something to shoot every day, and hopefully will help my understanding of various concepts progress.
I know I'm a day late into the year, but I just decided to do this an hour or so ago.. so I decided that it'd be better to be 1 day late than 2 days, and if I don't start now, I'd do nothing but keep procrastinating on it.
So let's see if I can keep this up.
To start us off, this is just a quick shot of a few of my external hard drives on my computer. They're sitting on top of my Mac Pro, and from front to back, you see my main photo drive (1TB) that houses my photo library. Next with the circle is my Time Machine backup drive (1TB) and then you can barely see a 3rd drive (the blue glow at the bottom) which is a download drive (750GB) and holds a wide variety of random things. I still have much more hard drive space which I won't get into.. yes, I love my storage space :)

The original Drobo's fastest connector, FireWire 800, had a maximum theoretical throughput of 800 Mbps. The Drobo S can use eSATA which has a maximum theoretical throughput of 6 Gbps.
Julie's macpro refused to boot this morning, so instead of riding a nice 100k I spent the ENTIRE EFFING DAY inside trying to coax it into recovering the disk.
Sadly, I think that the disk controller on the 'pro is dying, so I ended up having to reinstall onto the original SSD after plugging it into a SATA->USB adapter (reinstall osx 10.8, recover s-l-o-w-l-y from the time machine server, and hopefully I'll then be able to insert the ssd into the machine and have it hobble along until I can swap in a new logic board. Failing that I'll just duct tape the drive to the outside of the case!
(And apropos of all hardware sucking, just look at the lens distortion at the edges of this photo!)

There's a raid made up of three 640GB drives inside my new MacPro. I was going to make a partition for video data, but it turned out partitions cannot be made within a raid unless I have a hardware raid card. (I didn't know that... orz) But the card is way too expensive.
I decided to go for a PCI-ex eSATA interface card to build an extra, external raid consisting two 500GB drives instead. I don't do much video editing lately anyway...

This is my new computer, i built it myself from parts. It is also a mac / hackintosh. This runs so well.
My real powerbook g4 is on the left. It is old, but i still love it.
