NIKOLAI, Alaska -- U.S. Marines assigned to Delta Company, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion, deliver toys to children living in remote villages of Alaska as part of the Toys for Tots program, Dec. 8. After traveling to a remote hub of villages via aircraft provided by the 144th Airlift Squadron, Alaska Air National Guard, the Marines journey to different villages on snow machines. This year three teams of Marines traveled to numerous villages in the vicinities of Kotzebue, Galena and McGrath. Jurema Action Plant aims to empower plants by enabling them to use similar technologies as humans use. It is also explores new ways of communication and co-relation between humans, living organism and a machine. Much like humans, animals and machines, the plants have an electrical signal traveling inside them, but they do not have nerves like humans and animals; nor wires and cables like machines. This electrical signal travels inside the cells of the plant. Inspired by this phenomenon, in collaboration with V2_, scientist Bert van Duijn from the Biology University and Hortus Botanicus, both from Leiden, on a research into electrical signals from this plant. A signal amplifier reads the differences around the plant to determine when it is being touched. These electromagnetic variations trigger movement of the robotic structure, on which the plant is situated, by means of a custom-made circuit board. The thresholds for response are set in such a way that only touching the plant makes the whole structure in motion.

This example of a high-pressure turbine blade was made from a cobalt-chrome alloy on another type of 3D printer, the direct metal laser melting (DMLM) machine. This machine uses lasers to melt layers of metal powder into the final shape. The blade contains intricate cooling channels that would be otherwise difficult to manufacture. It is a good example of the new freedoms enjoyed by designers using additive manufacturing to make metal parts. Read More: www.gereports.com/blades-and-bones/

About 1899. My Grandfather's uncle was a dealer for Massey Harris farm equipment for a while. He is seated at the front of the machine. This is a manure spreader. Just imagine forking loads of manure up to almost the level of your chest.....

Dr. Leland Whitson and his team print the final pages of his uncle's book, in a posthumous first edition, printed entirely by letterpress, almost entirely on the Miehle Vertical cylinder press seen here, from type set on Linotype and Ludlow linecasting machines.

This was the culmination of a 5-year project at the International Printing Museum, in Carson, California

I made this quilt for my nephew Jim and his wife, Val in May 2011. My niece Hope helped me select the fabric and that was fun too. I pieced the quilt and it was quilted with a long-arm quilt machine.

This is a half-square triangle sampler including Windmills, Flying Geese, and simple variations of Bow Ties and Squares. Finished size is approximately 72 1/2 x 90 1/2.

A BRIEF BIOGRAFY

Boris Savoldelli, singer

OFFICIAL BIOGRAFY

Mark Murphy says Boris is "a great proponents of simply superb singing". Boris Savoldelli is a new vocal performer on the music scene who is receiving kudos from around the world. He is always challenging his “vocal instrument” with new and original ways of singing, thanks to his music background that ranges from classical studies to jazz to rock-funk to avant-garde experimental music. His influences include his mentor in jazz, singer Mark Murphy.

In 2008 Boris released his most representative album titled INSANOLOGY, an experimental vocal solo project, composed, largely arranged and recorded using only a looper machine. This CD represent Boris’ “light side”, the melodic and more accessible part of Boris’ music. “Insanology” received flattering reviews from all around the world (Italy, USA, Brazil, France, UK, Holland, Russia, Germany, Israel).

In 2008, critic and producer Arnaldo DeSouteiro (Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin and Joao Gilberto) put “Insanology” on his list of “Ten Best Vocal Jazz Albums of the Year.” He also put Boris in third place in the category of “Best Male Jazz Singers” after Tony Bennet and Al Jarreau. A year later, in 2009, Boris placed second on DeSouteiro’s same list. In 2011 Boris placed fourth again in the category of “Best Male Jazz Singers” on DeSouteiro’s poll and Boris' 2011 cd, "Biocosmopolitan", on his list of “Ten Best Vocal Jazz Albums of the Year 2011.”

In June 2009, the New York-based Moonjune Records released Boris’ duo CD with Elliott Sharp, PROTOPLASMIC, an example of Boris “dark” and experimental side.

In April 2010, his first official video titled “The Miss Kiss” debuted.

in March 2011, the New York-based Moonjune Records released a new Boris' Vocal Solo “light” album, titled BIOCOSMOPOLITAN with the Italian trumpeter PAOLO FRESU and bassist JIMMY HASLIP as special guests.

In october 2011, Moonjune Label re-released Boris first acclaimed album: Insanology

In september 2014, CNM (Creative Nation Music), released Boris new album in duo with Boston based guitarist GARRISON FEWELL titled ELECTRIC BAT CONSPIRACY

Words cannot describe what a small team of talented engineers in New Zealand have acheived in creating this machine. The Britten is novel, an original design setting new trends in chassis and suspension technoogy. Sadly, John Britten, the team leader and chief designer, passed away in late 1995. He built only ten machines: this one is number seven. Britten won the world British, European, and American Racing Series (BEARS) in 1995, and had many successes on the racetrack.

Plasma cutting machine- This type is best in building systems applications (with large parts)

location: Houston

We made some cool 'pataphysical talismans and time machines this week in Geo Monly’s amazing woodshop at Tam High School in Mill Valley.

Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) and Jean Bolte (a.k.a. Dr. Figurine) have been building a Time Machine model, which is coming along very well. It is a modular structure with five walls, which can house a wide range of interactive art works. It could grow into a 'collection of time machines’, featuring different artist's views of events that impact us all.

Fabrice Florin (a.k.a. Dr. Fabio) made hundreds of 'pataphysical talismans, using Tam High's laser printer, an Illustrator file created by Freddy Hahne (a.k.. Dr. Really). It only took a couple hours to print over 280 talismans, which are based on the symbol of unity, featured in stupas all over Nepal.

Our creative process is documented in this photo album: bit.ly/pata-photos

Come see the ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine at the Mill Valley Library this Saturday, Oct. 31, from 1pm to 5pm. Halloween costumes welcome :)

Well, not quite ready. "Ice kacang" is a dessert (red beans, milk, jelly) and the special part of it is shredded ice. The man in this photo is setting up the ice shredding machine. This is manually operated by turning the side wheel which spins a block of ice. Other snacks sold here are nasi lemak, mee goreng and curry puffs.

I love ice kacang... with lots of crushed roasted peanuts.

1959 Jaguar XK150 FHC

Chassis No. S835771BW

Engine No. V5366-8

Transmission: Automatic

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernized. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen, and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The alloy bonnet was also widened, and opened down to the wings.

In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by an elegantly leather trimmed dash. Thinner doors gave the interior needed space as well.

Four-wheel Dunlop 12 in. Disc-Brakes appeared for the first time. Suspension and chassis were very similar to that on the XK140. Steering was by rack and pinion; power steering was not offered. Production ended in October of 1960.

S837312: Offered here is an elegant fixed head coupe, meticulously restored from top to bottom, with no detail overlooked.

This iconic British roadster is finished in a beautiful metallic blue over dark blue upholstery, complimented by chrome wire wheels, and driving lamps; displaying excellent fit and finish throughout. The car also features correct “J” headlamps and dual exhaust.

The cabin of the 150 is quite striking. Supple hides and well polished wood adorn the cockpit as well as plenty of brightwork. An aftermarket stereo system has been installed under the dash.

The well sorted 3.4L motor is quite stout, exhibiting strong acceleration and steady idling as the automatic transmission shifts through all gears with ease. As a reliable machine, this Jaguar certainly draws attention with its striking looks, all while offering a pleasant care-free driving experience.

Meticulous Full Restoration!

Well sorted throughout!

Excellent fit and finish!

Here we see the loco dragbox top sheet in the final stages of fabrication and fettling work prior to going for machining.

This is a four way flanged steel plate, 25mm thk, which will have all four edges machined down to the correct sizes prior to being installed and riveted in the frames at the back of the loco.

As with many components on 4123, the originals are far too badly corroded to be of further use, particularly when one considers that the dragbox is a key structural component of the loco which stiffens the main frames and takes all the drawgear load produced by the loco and its train.

This lamp was fabricated from two main components: a combination lamp and heater from a vintage chick incubator and a wooden sand-casting form for making brass, bronze or cast iron parts. The porcelain top of the light/heater included a transformer to step down 120 volts to heat the wires that wrap around the inner armature.

The base assembly is a hardwood form made for sand casting of parts to be machined. This particular form came from The Portland Co., a foundry and machining operation in Portland, ME that built marine engines, railroad locomotives and cast-iron building facades.

I flipped the light socket from top mount to bottom mount to keep the wiring out of sight.

OK, for all of you who were wondering what the bridge to nowhere served...it was the mines over in the Leisenring area. Last time I was there the old Union Supply store was still there, and if you go up the hill beside it to Dawson, you can see the old West Penn Trolley Right of way(light rail way before it's time) If memory serves me correctly, this is now a skating rink. I just gotta tune up that time machine this weekend.

After taking some photos of new top load washing machines in a store, I came home and took this photo of my older washing machine that I have used for many years. In fact, this is only my second washing machine in the 50 years I have lived in my home. From what I understand from appliance repair people, this machine will probably outlast most on the market today in 2017. Unlike electronic motherboards in modern washing machines, this model has a timer, starter, and some safety features. Simple, simple, simple. Maybe that is why I like it so much. Very little to break.

At its new home.I bought this machine for A$90 as a 'buy now', and it's worth every dollar and more. The seller told me that he bought it for his wife in 1975, but she never used it. When I got it home, it was a little it stiff, but clean. ZZ didn't work, but a bit of WD40 here there and everywhere, and it showed sign of life. A trip to my hardware store to get a new spring,A$5, saw it spring back to life. What a machine this is. I will upgrade the 0.3A motor, I have a 0.9A from another machine, beyond repair. What I really like about this machine, is the reverse sewing it can do, really good for kite making. On most new machines, you have to hold the reverse button either in or down while doing reverse, but on this one, the leaver stays in put, leaving you two free hands to guide your work.

"Inter-face" is a mixed-media installation that elaborates new models of Human-Machine-Interaction by introducing collective low-tech communication strategies in a technologically mediated environment. With the help of wearables, users come into physical communication, triggering specific events in the digital realm. The efficient use of the interpersonal interfaces defines the outcome of the interaction with the machine.

Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.

Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.

In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.

This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.

This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

Steve and I work on the rest of the tortellini makings: Steve makes pesto and I start the flour well for the fresh pasta. Oh, my.

We used the pasta machine this time, and thinned down to number 8. Our supper was- once again- so good we could hardly eat it.

I found this very interesting in celebrating Labour Day (Yesterday 1st of May and Today 2nd of May the Holiday) in Nigeria. Labour Day is a day set aside for labour movement and themed Growing the National Economy for Job Creation and Peoples welfare.

The mission this year is to effectively mobilize and put pressure on the in-coming leadership to create jobs for the teeming mass of youths, especially the hundreds of thousands that graduate from higher Institutions every year. (Source from allafrica.com/stories/201104280160.html)

This has been in my archive for a while now and thought it will be nice to put it on today. The guys in the picture are bore hole workers trying to fill up the generator that powers the drilling machine. This was taken up high from a four story building.

Another great coffee place found via the iPhone App "London's best coffee", and another good find..... super cool environment, although actual coffee not as good as Flat White or Milk Bar (but still head & shoulders above Starbucks, Costa etc etc)

Loved the motor bike just standing beside the counter & the beautiful Faema Lever-pull espresso machine. This café is just beside Waterloo train station.

Busses and Civic go hand in hand like Monte Carlo and Super yachts. As the heart of Canberra’s public transport system civic pumps busses in all directions to every major (and minor) part of Canberra). I rely on buses to get to civic nearly every day and because I frequent the busses so much I have grown to like travelling on them. They are a sort of thinking place, though I'm not sure why. Maybe it’s the slow groan and rumbles of the engine, or maybe it’s because it reminds me of sitting on a broken washing machine. This photo shows the almost eerie nature of busses. The view from the circular mirror is not unlike the view from inside a submarine. Everything all warped and fish eyed. Almost like looking backwards and forwards at the same time.

I managed to do all three using pre-1982 pennies, which look better than later ones which contain more zinc. I wish I'd remembered, I wanted to bring a pre-1965 silver quarter for the quarter squishing machine...

Renaissance Embroidery Wooden Hoop / Frame: This 135 x 255 mm (5.3 x 10.0 inch) rectangular Allied Wooden embroidery hoop / frame is perfect for horizontal logo embroidery designs on chest and back, tote bags, etc., using Renaissance embroidery machines.

This hoop is offered in an extra-thick Double Height (DH) version for extra gripping power to hoop a wide range of fabric thicknesses including heavy jackets.

One of the natural characteristics of wood is its grained texture. This provides a superior gripping power to hoop all varieties of articles firmly. This characteristic is great for hooping slippery fabrics such as satins and silks, as well as thicker jackets and other articles that may be difficult to hoop tautly using regular plastic hoops.

Allied wooden hoops / frames for Renaissance tubular embroidery machines are offered in large number of unique and popular sizes including some specialty wooden hoop sizes such as:

Sleeve Hoops: Taller (in Y direction) x Narrower (in X direction), ideal for vertical embroidery on shirt sleeves, pant legs, team uniforms, etc.

Horizontal Line Hoops: Shorter (in Y direction) x Wider (in X direction), ideal for single or double line horizontal embroidery across the chest, upper or lower back of sweat shirts, etc.

We also offer a full range of patented Allied Grid-Lock plastic hoops for Renaissance and most other popular brands of embroidery machines.

MCGRATH, Alaska -- U.S. Marines assigned to Delta Company, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion, deliver toys to children living in remote parts of Alaska as part of the Toys for Tots program, Dec. 14. After traveling to a hub of villages via aircraft provided by the 144th Airlift Squadron, Alaska Air National Guard, the Marines journeyed to different villages on snow machines. This year three teams of Marines traveled to numerous villages in the vicinities of Kotzebue, Galena and McGrath. Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve with a goal of delivering, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.
