Had physics lab today on the oscilloscope. It wasn't too bad despite the fact that my lab partners and I had 2 bad machines. This was the final part of the lab we had to do to demonstrate what would happen if the oscilloscope was measuring two different sine waves on specific settings of the scope. It was pretty interesting, to say the least. Day 346 of the project.

Mark Murphy says Boris is "a great proponents of simply superb singing". Boris Savoldelli is a new vocal performer on the music scene who is receiving kudos from around the world. He is always challenging his “vocal instrument” with new and original ways of singing, thanks to his music background that ranges from classical studies to jazz to rock-funk to avant-garde experimental music. His influences include his mentor in jazz, singer Mark Murphy.
In 2008 Boris released his most representative album titled INSANOLOGY, an experimental vocal solo project, composed, largely arranged and recorded using only a looper machine. This CD represent Boris’ “light side”, the melodic and more accessible part of Boris’ music. “Insanology” received flattering reviews from all around the world (Italy, USA, Brazil, France, UK, Holland, Russia, Germany, Israel).
In 2008, critic and producer Arnaldo DeSouteiro (Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin and Joao Gilberto) put “Insanology” on his list of “Ten Best Vocal Jazz Albums of the Year.” He also put Boris in third place in the category of “Best Male Jazz Singers” after Tony Bennet and Al Jarreau. A year later, in 2009, Boris placed second on DeSouteiro’s same list. In 2011 Boris placed fourth again in the category of “Best Male Jazz Singers” on DeSouteiro’s poll and Boris' 2011 cd, "Biocosmopolitan", on his list of “Ten Best Vocal Jazz Albums of the Year 2011.”
In June 2009, the New York-based Moonjune Records released Boris’ duo CD with Elliott Sharp, PROTOPLASMIC, an example of Boris “dark” and experimental side.

The Santa Clara Interlocking Tower is one of two unmodified Harriman Standard # 4 towers in California and was built in 1926. It was not put into operational service until the fall of 1927 due to a last minute management decision to change the local area signals. The signals were changed from General Railway Signal Co. Semaphore type to Union Switch and Signal Co. H-2 Searchlight type signals. On the upper floor of the tower is a General Railway Signal Co. Model 2, unit-lever type electro-mechanical interlocking machine. This machine controlled many switches and signals from the north end of the Santa Clara yard to the junction switches and signals controlling the tracks to and from both San Francisco (Peninsula Line) and Oakland (Mulford Line). The lower half of the tower originally housed the relays and batteries for the tower mechanism. In the late 1960's, these were moved to adjacent metal sheds and the lower half of the tower became the signal maintainers shop and work area.
The tower and its' interlocking machine were used around the clock until July 17, 1993. On that date, control of all switches and signals on the Peninsula line was transferred to the Control Center at the San Jose depot. After 65 years of continuous service, the end of an era had come for the tower.

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernized. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen, and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The alloy bonnet was also widened, and opened down to the wings.
In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by an elegantly leather trimmed dash. Thinner doors gave the interior needed space as well.
Four-wheel Dunlop 12 in. Disc-Brakes appeared for the first time. Suspension and chassis were very similar to that on the XK140. Steering was by rack and pinion; power steering was not offered. Production ended in October of 1960.

The cabin of the 150 is quite striking. Supple hides and well polished wood adorn the cockpit as well as plenty of brightwork. An aftermarket stereo system has been installed under the dash.
The well sorted 3.4L motor is quite stout, exhibiting strong acceleration and steady idling as the automatic transmission shifts through all gears with ease. As a reliable machine, this Jaguar certainly draws attention with its striking looks, all while offering a pleasant care-free driving experience.

On Thursday, February 4, 2010, the League hosted about 50 guests for a Valentine's Day champagne reception. Champagne for the reception was donated by Board President Roger Marmet and desserts were donated by Sticky Fingers vegan bakery. Module Building
Though many varieties of module builders and even combined module builder pickers exist, a typical module builder is a large trailer that is moved by a tractor and remains stationary when used. The wheels are often hydraulically retracted when the module builder is operational. A module builder is about 30 ft. long, 12 ft. high and 10 ft. wide. It works similarly to a garbage truck. When loading the cotton from the cotton picker into the module builder it should be distributed as evenly as possible. After loading the cotton into the module builder, a hydraulic compactor moves up and down along the length of the machine. This process is repeated every time that a cotton picker is unloaded into the module builder until a module is built up and discharged through the tailgate of the machine. The module is stored on the field and the module builder is moved into a new position to build up another module. The weight of one module is about 10 metric tons. (22046.2 lbs.)
In 2002 the ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) dedicated the cotton module builder as an historic landmark of agricultural engineering, naming it "one of the top three inventions in mechanized cotton production.”

This is one of the few working models of this famous machine in captivity. It belongs to Enigma expert Dr Mark Baldwin, who demonstrated it after his talk on 2008/03/12 at Napier University, Edinburgh.
It was the addition of the fourth rotor to the original 3-rotor Enigma which mutliplied the coding possibilities to such an extent that Alan Turing's electromechanical "bombs" were no longer up to the job of exploring encryption possibilities in order to decode the coded U-boat communications. The famous pioneering Colossus computer was required.
Unfortunately because of the role Colossus played in the war and military cryptography considerations of national security kept the details of this very important milestone in the history of computing a secret for thirty years, and the hobbling of Alan Turing's post-war computing career and his general harassment by the security services led to his suicide.
It was a great privilege for me, having spent over forty years working with computers, to be so close to such a historic machine. This was the best photograph I could snatch in limited time of this machine in a hurry in very crowded conditions. Although the popup autoflash seriously overexposed it (must remember to turn that down!), it's better than my previous one, taken through glass at an exhibition, although that one does also show the rotors and the front plugboard.

This machine was a collaboration with Starbucks in the early 2000.
My plans are:
-Upgrade the machine internally by installing a PID for better thermo stability.
- Install new plumbing.
- Upgraded shower screen for the group head.
- Portafilter.
It’s wired to think how as a kid I would do the exact same with toys, it’s now coffee machines.
Also, I came to the conclusion that you don’t need a super expensive machine to pull great shots.
It’s all In the BEAN’s, grind size, and technique.

Public Act 23-52 – An Act Concerning the Department of Consumer Protection’s Recommendations Regarding Prescription Drug Regulations – makes several changes regarding pharmacy operations and access to certain medications, including oral contraceptives and opioid antagonists. This law allows businesses a permit to operate vending machines selling over the counter (OTC) medications, which includes OTC Plan B. Prior to the bill signing, Connecticut was the only state in the nation that currently has a prohibition to placing non-prescription drugs in vending machines.
“This law offers increased healthcare protections for Connecticut women and provides equal access to important medications to everyone without restriction,” Rep. Marra said. “It’s another positive step forward toward our goal of providing unfettered access to medical services for women statewide.”
The bill passed the House by a vote of 125-21, and the Senate unanimously.

Alex, who's a good friend of mine, owns this gem - the Scion FRS. He gave me the keys and told me that I was the first one to drive his car other than himself. My opinion of it is very high. I just took it around the block, one highway exit and back. It reminded me of how I felt when I drove a Honda S2000, which I consider was the most fun I had while driving a car. The FRS is nimble and very responsive. The steering is so precise that you're practically a surgeon on the road. The suspension, although already upgraded by Alex, is very tout and confident. I'll admit that my WRX is faster, but this car is a whole lot more fun.
Speed is nothing if you can't use it. I'm not rich nor stupid enough to risk getting another speeding ticket. And even if I can go flat out on any straight road without risk, I'll still pick a well handling car versus a 500 horsepower beast. Spending a few minutes with this car is addicting and owning one must put a smile on your face each time you turn the key. I'm reminded of why I love cars in the first place and that isn't to go fast on a straight road. It's the feeling that I get when I have a connection with the machine. This car has "it".

The laminator at AB Consolidated was a newer version of this that fed a Vicars cutting machine. This laminator features in another BP album here. The cutting machine is a creamy version of what Bycroft had as their No 2 line. In fact in the eighties, the Baker Perkins laminator was moved to feed this machine and the oven changed from a steel band to a wire band as the oven was 30 foot longer than the Vicars oven they used as their cracker oven. They also added a rotary cutter to the cutting machine.

On April 2, 2008, the students in my Drawing III class at Middle Tennessee State University became Human Copy Machine.
This interactive collaborative project is a copy of Gelitin's Tantamounter 24/7. For seven hours, the students made replicas of objects and images which were inserted into the Machine. Each copy was photographed with the original before it was returned to its owner.
