The Gäuboden is a region in Lower Bavaria in southern Germany without any clear geographic or cultural boundaries, that covers an area about 15 kilometres wide south of the River Danube and the Bavarian Forest, beginning opposite Wörth an der Donau and stretching as far as Künzing. The largest town in the region is Straubing, which is often called the centre of the Gäuboden. The Gäuboden is one of the largest loess regions in southern Germany. The farmland is nearly flat, no field borders or trees that might hinder the usage of huge machines.

After descending the ladders I took a quick look at the driftwood. I soon became absorbed with the different shapes . These two lower ones were so heavy, I could only just lift them , and struggled to get them to balance. I placed a wishbone shaped small piece on top, to make a wish machine. this is for Jim and Katrien who were interested at what driftwood fun could be . A great way to spend half an hour, when the clouds aren't performing. Too sunny. Wish you well is by Mark Lanegan, and is perfect.

Just look at the number of bracing wires between the wings!

Continuing the theme of very old aircraft designs, the Bristol Boxkite was one of the first types to be built in any quantity. In November 1910, crowds of around 10,000 people gathered in Bristol to witness a series of demonstration flights, such was the novelty of these new-fangled flying machines. 78 Boxkites were eventually built, 4 being for the British Army. One of those was fitted with a radio and became the first aeroplane in the UK to transmit a 'wireless' message.

The plane in the picture is a replica, one of 3 built in the 1960s for the movie 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines'. This is the only one that still flies - owned and operated by The Shuttleworth Collection at their base in Old Warden.

A few decades ago,

Where I have been,

This is the Soldier Training Center,

Nearby shooting training venues.

Strict physical training,

Deplete all their physical strength,

This is the way to train soldiers early in Taiwan.

The army is seen as a Kuomintang force.

At that time, Taiwan was still a system of conscription.

Is training everyone,

Become a killing machine,

This experience,

Become a deep memory of the man at the time.

Can believe this news,

The former Soviet Union encouraged the Chinese Communist Party,

Support North Korea’s invasion of South Korea,

After the outbreak of the Korean War,

The United States and the Republic of China (Taiwan) signed a cooperation treaty,

The US Seventh Fleet assists the Republic of China (Taiwan),

Prevent the Chinese Communist Party from invading Taiwan.

on the other hand,

Kuomintang leader Chiang Kai-shek felt a serious blow,

The US Seventh Fleet did not attempt to help Chiang Kai-shek return to mainland China.

The intention of the United States is very obvious.

The Chinese Kuomintang and the Communist Party,

The military struggle between the two sides must end.

Real situation,

At that time, the Chinese Communist Party did not have the ability to invade Taiwan.

Chiang Kai-shek’s air force pilot in Taiwan,

Often invade the sky of mainland China.

Taiwan prays for peace,

But peace must rely on national defense technology.

The willpower of the people against aggression.

The US "Business Insider" established the annual ranking of global military power in 2018.

This assessment uses some data from Global Firepower.

Taiwan’s military power in 2018,

Ranked 24 in the world,

Slightly higher than Canada,

Canada’s land area is about 277 times that of Taiwan.

The population is about 1.5 times that of Taiwan.

Taiwan is just a small island.

Thank you, Have a beautiful weekend.

We travel to Connecticut in our time machine this F-unit Friday, to Cos Cob on the MNCR/CDOT New Haven Line which doubles as Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, to see train 1539 from Danbury on the morning of 25 July 1986. The two FL9s 2015-2023 are operating on the New Haven side of Grand Central, back on the home rails of the NYNH&H for which they first toiled.

On a sunny afternoon near the station of 178km in the Novokodatskyi District I spent a few hours waiting for trains coming up the hill out of Dnirpo.

The last train of the day was incidentally one of the best catches with VL8M-665 hauling a workers supply coach and a track machine. This train was caught nearly 13 hours after the first VL8 of the day, bringing one of my most memorable trainspotting days to a close.

VL8M-665 was built in Tbilisi in 1963 making it 61 years old at the time of the photograph and has worked in the Ukrainian SSR and now Ukraine since 1970.

The Lost Sock is a wonderful name for a laundrette! How many times has a sock mysteriously disappeared in a washing machine? This South Hobart business was undergoing some renovations when I took the photo, and the workmen were on a morning break.

My title plays on the book and film, "My Beautiful Laundrette" by the British writer Hanif Kureishi.

Handsome, right?

This is a studio portrait of a common but easily overlooked creature: the larva of a crane fly. Like most dipteran larva, they are soft skinned, legless, feeding machines.

This particular image was featured in my latest children's book "Livet som minimonster" ("Life as a mini monster") which explores the topic of various arthropod life cycles.

I think this is a good example of the fact that no matter how drab and featureless a subject may appear, it never fails to fascinate me when I look closer. In this case I was intrigued by the bristles and the interesting texture of the skin.

The local city department was cleaning out the water hyacinth which was choking the lake. The rains last month had bought the Hyacinth alive and it was everywhere. And that is a feast for these Jacana's which could be seen in good numbers - maybe a dozen or so along with several other water birds.

But then the cleaning machine is active in the water and it is slowly clearing up the Hyacinth. Sometimes the machine gets too close to these birds - the birds don't want to lose their food, but don't want to get caught in the machine. This Jacana found a good hunting place near the banks / dirt road - but was wary of the people (incl. me) and keeping an eye on both the machine and the people.

Luckily for me it just gave me an opportunity for a couple of good close up shots.

Many Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452 - May 2, 1519)

This is my tribute to the illegitimate son of a peasant girl -- a man who was once charged with sodomy and necromancy (not at the same time), who was an engineer who dreamed up some of the most amazing inventions of all time (he even entertained the wildest of notions that man could fly like a bird), and whose notebook sold many years later, at auction, for $30-million.

Leonardo da Vinci, the famed creator of the Mona Lisa, a portrait that he never actually finished. (see the Lisa's finger), has always been one of my favorite artists, personalities, people in history.

Leonardo, a strict vegetarian, could easily be distracted and often left one project for another. But somehow he still managed to turn out The Last Supper. Interesting, in that he also designed war machines.

This genius is said to have proclaimed nature as the best teacher, the wisest teacher, the most honest teacher. I tend to believe him.

"Human subtlety will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple or more direct than does nature because in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous."

Leonardo da Vinci died nearly 500 years ago, and yet this "illegitmate" man is still remembered, and revered.

God sure has a sense of humor.

This one is for you, Leonardo. Thanks for the Mona Lisa, even if you didn't quite get her done.

My teasing description for this previously posted photo back in 2014 is below, little did I realize this cool Canon 60D camera would be soon be mine...I'm still using it 8 years later:

Wheat harvest is a busy time in Montana. Wheat ripens for harvesting during June and July in this area. Before that time comes, farmers and their families will be getting the combines, trucks, and farm grain bins ready for the big event. They hope for hot, dry weather during the harvest season for the grain threshes and tests best under those conditions.

Combines are machines designed to cut and thrash (thresh) grain in one field operation. Combines have evolved through the years from those pulled by a tractor to self-propelled machines.

This combine is making the second "round". A round is one time around any field. At this time, the farmer gets an idea what his crop yield will be. Wheat fields that are clean (don't have any weeds) look like a "sea of gold". Some call wheat "Montana Gold". Wheat is a pretty crop at any stage but especially at the time of harvest.

TX-90 "Slon" (Elephant) Quadrapedal Walker

-------------------

The Slon walker is a heavy, enormous machine of ultimate destruction. It's a force to reckon with.

It has a 6 man crew, operating the weapons and driving the thing. It also can transport 6 men (firing from fireports)

The weapons include: 4x gatlings on leg sections, 2x 20mm gatlings under nose, 2x large gun turret w/ 4x high calibre guns, 2x SAM pods on either side of the turret, 4x missile pods mounted on body, 2x artillery missile pods on rear. Is able to launch 2x UAVs.

A state of the art weapon, it crushes entire groups of tanks and helicopters. It slaughters infantry by the dozens.

It features large chunks of artificially grown muscle in the legs as well as motors, technically making it a cyborg. It has an AI with a "personality", so it's crew usually grow close with their particular machine. This AI is there to assist the pilots in operating the machine, guiding weapons, and even keeping company.

The AI can take control of the machine if needed.

Soundtrack: V.A.C. - "malfunction"

- somehow a "brother-in-spirit" of this one: though (oh well...) I am at least knee-deep into technology of all sorts and kinds, somehow I wonder how it actually works - man controlling machine? This device (an office-building-sized coal excavator) is just, well, sort of a "mountain of steel", making you feel awfully small, pondering what might happen if machines like these actually get out of hands...

And there off silver dream machines ? this shot was more luck than judgment.

When I approached my coffee machine this morning, I saw these layered shadows displayed in front of the machine. Even though the shadows had depth, tonality and wonderful form, they were displayed on a flat surface, in only 2 dimensions. I felt as if I was viewing a hologram. Of course, my camera came to hand and eye.

On our way to the south of France my daughter and I shared her i-pod. We had various options for listening to music:

- The casetteplayer; we have an old car with an old audio-set. For this reason alone I produced a series of so called Car-tapes.

- Two "phones" (better to call them mini-computers) with a lot of music in mp-3 form.

- My daughters i-pod.

When my daughter wanted a mp-3-player, two years ago, I stimulated her to buy an i-pod because I was so anxious to get this new machine, this new technology.

My daughter regularly asks me to download some music for her. It's a great way to stay in touch with the hit-songs of today. And it gives you the opportunity to secretly enjoy music I could never openly admit to liking ;-)

The new sander is up and running. It’s slightly different from the other one. The horizontal bed can be raised to a vertical position but I’ll leave it as it is for the moment to see how it works out. It’s also got a dust extraction port as opposed to the dust bag on the other machine. This should prevent so much dust getting into the bearings.

Here is a wide field version of the beautiful Orion Nebula imaged from Bortle 9 Las Vegas 🎰

We chatted for a while and he told me about the specifications and tweaks that the bike had, to much information for me to take in, but, the most important spec , 240BHP 2.5ltr 3 cylinder engine, up from a standard 180bhp, what a ride. After the chat I asked to take a couple of pictures and he was only to pleased to accommodate.

The journey continued to Brancaster State, and then finishing up in Wells-next-to-sea.

RENFE: in what is currently known as Estació de França in Barcelona, the electric locomotive 281-003. Although it was not very common to see them outside their work area, after they made their last passenger train in September 1982, they occasionally arrived as far as Barcelona at the head of freight or work trains.

It is part of a series of seven locomotives built by CAF in 1927, with French licenses, to provide service on the eastern trans-Pyrenean line between Ripoll, Puigcerdà and Latour-de-Carol. They were initially numbered in the 1000 series (numbers 1001 to 1007), later being renumbered in the 281 series (numbers 281-001 to 007). They were progressively withdrawn from service since 1978 and, although several sources cite 1987 as the last year of operation of these machines, this photo attests that they still lasted a little longer. (Improved scan of a paper photo of me).

This 4-engine widebody double-deck airliner, the Super Jumbo Jet, was in production from 2005-2021. About 250 produced, almost half of them in Emirate's fleet. Assembled in Toulouse.

Flew with it only twice, with Emirates, AMS-DXB and back.

On the north tarmac of Aeroscopia they have this A380, for which they built this entire structure to be able to go aboard, also present: a A320 and a A340. You can go inside the A380. The A340 and A320 are not accesible, you can only walk around them.

This looks so effortless, doesn't it? Just another girl dancing through the snow with her bare feet. No big deal. WELL YOU'RE WRONG! Do you even know how painful this was? It was excruciating. every step felt like I was running in a field of knives. My feet felt huge aand clumsy and frozen. I even rubbed some of the skin off.

But, I think it was worth it. And I totally forgot about this dress when I was doing my little summer dress in the snow series... I made it myself! But I still need to attach some straps because it has a tendency to slide down... O.o

"One Small Step"

I usually do not post the background stories of what happens when shooting Horizons. But today I

will. You see, there was this bush.

My day always begins the same way when the alarm scares the crap out of me at 3:10 am. I dress

in the dark so as not to wake my wife Mary (unless I forget to turn off the secondary backup alarm and that is a whole other story) and stagger down the stairs to start the coffee machine, usually tripping over my sleeping dog. I step outside at 3:15 to have a smoke and listen to the distant, and often not so distant, gunfire of the city of Milwaukee. That must be the golden hour of discharging firearms here. To me it is no different than the sound of crickets these days. (Oh ya, someone forgot to prep the coffee machine this morning so I cooked air) At 3:25 I fill up my mug, grab my camera and hit the road to start my work day. At 4:00 am I get to our office, take an hour getting the orders for my morning deliveries together, punch in to my digital time card and then head out into Horizon land.

As I was cutting through the back roads in Racine county at 5:45 am, as I have been doing now

for 17 years, the sun hit the Horizon with the softest of light. The sky was perfect, all I needed

was one thing that stood out in the landscape. And there it was. A bush with white flowers about

200 feet off the road. Cool. Awesome. Time to wade through knee high grass and get soaked before a

full work day and 180 orders to deliver. So I parked on the side of the road, threw on my flashers

and worked my way to that bush. Damn thing is, the closer I got the bigger it got. I should have

brought a ladder because by the time I got to the bush it was 8 feet high and about 20 feet long.

Well, I do not little things like this bother me. I worked my way to the front of this bush ( you

will notice I have no idea what this or many other plant life are called. Too much information

takes away from the beauty of the photo. LOL)

So I worked my way to the front of the bush and pushed in about 5 feet through a tangle of

branches, held my camera up as high as I could and began shooting bursts of bracketed shots. In the

photo I posted, "One Small Step", those pretty white wild flowers were eye level to me. And just to

my right and behind my that bush must have been 8 feet high. Or so I thought.

Did I mention the Red Wing Blackbirds? No? Oh, yep, they must have had nests in this bush

because as soon as I stepped in and started shooting they took flight, circled, and started diving

bombing me. I brought my camera down, took a peek at a few of the some 50 bracketed shots I took

blindly and knew I had something to work with. But with mosquitos ringing in my ears, my shoes and

socks soaked through and crazy birds wanting me dead I decided to try to get a couple more from

just a little bit to the right. Just "One Small Step". Just, you know, a little more. So I moved my

right foot over about two feet, raised the camera over my head and pointed it at the Horizon, put

my finger on the exposure button (yes, all this at once) and put my foot down.......on nothing.

There are moments you remember. Like my kids being born. Like the night I asked Mary to marry

me and ten minutes later we get rear ended. Like a first kiss. Like when the earth disappeared and

you find yourself falling backward with a camera over your head as if you are being devoured by a

giant bush and evil black birds are laughing at you. Ya, like that. That moment, falling about 8

feet down and backwards into a ravine through tangled masses of branches not quite knowing when the ride will be over. And what was the one thought going through my head? My cell phone was in my car. As I layed there in the belly of the 16 foot monster bush from hell looking at the filtered morning

light of sunrise I realized something. I realized I was laying in water and once again wet through

and through and I had an 8 hour shift yet to be done. But hell, I got the shot.

Whichever way you look at it, the stripped down QJ without it's smoke deflectors was quite a mean looking machine. Hello :) i'm still injured to my leg and ankle so i'm just continue to produce astrophoto processing :\ sorry for bothering, i'm a machine!

this is a panorama of two photos processed in drizzle 2x of the same dslr original shots.

The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex is a dark nebula of gas and dust that is located 1° south of the star ρ Ophiuchi of the constellation Ophiuchus. At an estimated distance of 131 ± 3 parsecs, this cloud is one of the closest star-forming regions to the Solar System.

This cloud covers an angular area of 4.5° × 6.5° on the celestial sphere. It consists of two major regions of dense gas and dust. The first contains a star-forming cloud (L1688) and two filaments (L1709 and L1755), while the second has a star-forming region (L1689) and a filament (L1712–L1729). These filaments extend up to 10–17.5 parsecs in length and can be as narrow as 0.24 parsecs in width. Some of the structures within the complex appear to be the result of a shock front passing through the clouds from the direction of the neighboring Sco OB2 association.

AS they were leaving the Toowoomba Showgrounds in Glenvale, heading where ever it is they head. Noted some new machines this year.
