I noticed this in a shop window in Tonbridge as I was wandering around last night. The unmistakable outlines of a BSA Gold Star, even if they chose to display this model from the less flattering kerb side. One of my dream machines. This pewter model was £72 which seemed a bit steep when far larger E-Type jag models were a mere £40. Much as I like it, I will leave it in the shop window.
We made some cool 'pataphysical talismans and time machines this week in Geo Monly’s amazing woodshop at Tam High School in Mill Valley.
Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) and Jean Bolte (a.k.a. Dr. Figurine) have been building a Time Machine model, which is coming along very well. It is a modular structure with five walls, which can house a wide range of interactive art works. It could grow into a 'collection of time machines’, featuring different artist's views of events that impact us all.
Fabrice Florin (a.k.a. Dr. Fabio) made hundreds of 'pataphysical talismans, using Tam High's laser printer, an Illustrator file created by Freddy Hahne (a.k.. Dr. Really). It only took a couple hours to print over 280 talismans, which are based on the symbol of unity, featured in stupas all over Nepal.

After I got my shots of the High Street, I went back to Henley-in-Arden Station to go home.
As I expected, it is quite a deserted station (maybe as it is a Sunday).
And another thing, the station building is boarded up, so if you live round here, where do you buy your tickets from (other than online)? Didn't see a ticket machine.
This is the second station to be called Henley-in-Arden Station. It opened in 1908.

I'm sure I saw somewhere on this line "Alight here for Mary Arden's House". Well it wasn't Henley-in-Arden. Which station was it?
One more Horizon machine - this time not one with four legs, and also the first Transport-class. It wound up a little cuter than I was expected, but I still like how it turned out. The crate was a fin build to figure out - it uses a pair of the technic wheels with 6 holes, plus six 1x1 bracket plates

The tragic remains of the once great abbey of Bury St Edmunds. Originally one of the largest and most powerful monastic complexes in England, the abbey precinct was constructed around the vast church which was built over the tomb of the martyred King and Saint Edmund and was a major centre of pilgrimage.
The great Norman church was of colossal proportions, cruciform and larger than many cathedrals (certainly the one which now stands before its site, which would have easily fitted into the abbey's nave with room to spare). Its facade was immensely broad and was formerly crowned by a soaring tower and spire, its overall form perhaps somewhere between the frontages of Ely and Lincoln cathedrals.
All its glory ended with the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it came close to a reprieve when Henry VIII considered forming new dioceses out of certain great monasteries in which case it would have become the cathedral (instead of the much smaller St James's church in front of it). Alas it was not to be and the site was quickly plundered and used as a quarry.
Today the enormous church has been so systematically plundered that only the misshapen rubble cores of the crossing pillars and parts of the transept and west front remain, all robbed of their original facing stone.
The west front is the most substantial fragment, its arches filled in by later houses, thus what appears to be a jumbled row of stone buildings immediately behind the present cathedral is actually the lowest stage of the church's main facade, though it takes considerable imagination to make sense of it all. The most recognisable features are the three great arches of the central portals (with later houses embedded in them) and the base of an octagonal turret at the south end (formerly balanced by a similar feature to the north, now vanished).
This place always saddens me with a huge sense of loss, one of England's greatest buildings stood here but has all but vanished, the great open space left like a gaping wound from one of history's more vicious blows. If I had access to a time machine, this would be one of my first stops (on a very lengthy itinerary!).

This Westland Aircraft Ltd image is the only one I have of a "K-" registered machine. This series was allotted temporarily to new aircraft in 1919. K-126, the prototype, became G-EAFO shortly afterwards. Production of the Limousine appears to have been limited to seven aircraft, including the prototype seen above. The six production machines were known as Limousine IIs. One of these (G-EAMV) went to Newfoundland with Australian adventurer/aviator Sidney Cotton. K-126 (G-EAFO) was destroyed in a spectacular crash at R.A.F. Netheravon when it was struck by a Fairey Fawn whilst the latter was taking off.

Seen on 22nd July 2006, a rather tired Stagecoach Olympian is seen in Wootton Bassett (before it gained the Royal prefix). However, whilst looking like a standard Stagecoach machine, this was originally delivered to Swindon and District wearing the red and cream "Starsky and Hutch" livery in 1990.
It was destined for the X54/X55 service from Swindon to Chippenham and 16 years later, it was still working hard on the self same service. In reality, it was on a short working (54) with long journeys now the 55 and operated by new Tridents
The Santa Clara Interlocking Tower is one of two unmodified Harriman Standard # 4 towers in California and was built in 1926. It was not put into operational service until the fall of 1927 due to a last minute management decision to change the local area signals. The signals were changed from General Railway Signal Co. Semaphore type to Union Switch and Signal Co. H-2 Searchlight type signals. On the upper floor of the tower is a General Railway Signal Co. Model 2, unit-lever type electro-mechanical interlocking machine. This machine controlled many switches and signals from the north end of the Santa Clara yard to the junction switches and signals controlling the tracks to and from both San Francisco (Peninsula Line) and Oakland (Mulford Line). The lower half of the tower originally housed the relays and batteries for the tower mechanism. In the late 1960's, these were moved to adjacent metal sheds and the lower half of the tower became the signal maintainers shop and work area.
The tower and its' interlocking machine were used around the clock until July 17, 1993. On that date, control of all switches and signals on the Peninsula line was transferred to the Control Center at the San Jose depot. After 65 years of continuous service, the end of an era had come for the tower.

This wicked ride is just an example of how far some guys went to set their engines back for better bite and performance. Dan Glover owner and builder of the car is under the hood gassing up his machine. He set the engine back 36% on the chassis. The engine is a 331 c.i.d. Chevy S.B. with a 4-71 blower and Hilborn injectors operating 32% above crank speed. The motor is connected to a B&M Turbohyro trans & a 5.13:1 '57 Olds rear end. The radiator is flush with the fire wall. And of course all the driving chores are done from the back seat area.

Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.
Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.
In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.
This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.
This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

Our local grocery store got a tortilla machine. This was its first day in operation; I bought tortillas so fresh I was warned to keep the bag open to let the steam escape.
They were so good.
We hosted a special event about ‘Pataphysics, the “science of imaginary solutions” -- and its founder, french poet Alfred Jarry, as part of our educational programs this month at the Mill Valley Library. This one-hour lecture and group discussion was held on October 15 in the Creekside Room, and engaged dozens of local community members in a fascinating conversation about the art movement that inspired surrealism and dadaism. Our presenters were Marshall Smith and Priscilla Wheeler, with creative contributions by Mark Petrakis, Freddy Hahne, as well as Fabrice and Phyllis Florin.
This program complements the first public exhibit of the ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine, our poetic oracle, which is on display this month at the Mill Valley Library. Come see the slot machine this month! The exhibit is open from 1 to 5pm every Saturday and Sunday in October, in the downstairs conference room of the Mill Valley Library. Pataphysical Studio members will be on hand to demo the Slot Machine and share what we have learned while building this interactive art project.
