The final summer FGW loco-hauled working of 2014 brings the first appearance of a Network Rail 57 on this train. In a lucky patch of sun on an otherwise hazy morning, 'Sand castle' 57305 passes Treleigh east of Redruth with the 5E75 Penzance T&RSMD - Par ECS. With only two 57s still in Network Rail livery, this looks unlikely to be repeated in 2015.

DB / Puma Energy liveried 60074 “Luke” catches a lucky patch of sun under an otherwise threatening sky with 6E01 10:05 Wolverhampton Steel Terminal - Boston Sleaford Sidings consisted of 20 BYA steel coil carriers. With the DB examples being down to three or less in traffic it’s hard times for the once strong fleet no secret it’s my fave class of locomotive, so despite the whole scene not being lit I thought it worth posting.

November 2023.

Caught in lucky patch of light, 68016 running round 6Z21 Kineton - Carlisle, after 68006 failed near Lapworth and then limped into the loop at Dorridge; 68016 was on the rear of the train. That's why nuclear trains always have two locos!

The run round didn't happen very quickly, the driver was on the phone to signallers a couple of times. By the time the 68 drew forwards into the loop off the main line, one train was waiting to go into Dorridge (its lights just visible behind) and another was waiting in the station. And the crossing gates had been closed for ages, causing much local annoyance!

Unknown photographer.

Under glowering skies the poorly loaded intermodal is viewed from the Lords footbridge in a lucky patch of sun. 6Z45 from Barham should have been 7 minutes behind this but alas ran half an hour late despite entering the run round loop at Claydon two hours early!

First trip out for 2 months for Joe and I today and managed this lucky patch of light as 46233 passed Greenholme in the thick of a blizzard. Not so lucky for the return leg as the train was held at Howe & Co Sidings for over an hour due to single line working during which time the light had all but gone.

Finding a lucky patch of sunshine in an otherwise cloud laden sky, Siemens Eurosprinters 474018 and 474012 are powering up the incline from Spiez towards Mulenen with an Italy bound intermodal train.

These SBB locos are relative newcomers to the BLS route, formerly being concentrated on the Gotthard. Numbering just 12 (non consecutively numbered) examples in the SBB fleet and, although looking very similar to the Bombardier TRAXX, these Siemens built locos are "inbetween" the Taurus and Vectron platforms.

As a strong testament to the fact that things do not always go right, double ALCo 44s 4490 and 4403 lead the first set of return cars to Thirlmere through Cardiff, passed at the perfect time by an Oscar. This blocked out our lucky patch of sun, and casted a nice big shadow across the side of the train. Still not too bad considering that we could have missed it altogether, although it was our only sighting of the 44s.

"The magic of digital editing" - that was a phrase I heard on a kids TV show during my pre-teen years a long time ago; little did I know at the time of the legitimacy of such a throwaway comment. This is my first attempt at Raw editing, which may or may not come as a surprise to my followers. Those who have got to know me well over the years will be familiar that I've never been particularly fond of extensive and OTT post-processing, however I have always managed with the resources and techniques I have at my disposal.

Anyway, enough with my struggles. 66591 passes a recently cleared Creech St Michael with the 6C73 12.17 Westbury-Fairwater Yard HOBC replinishing trip, in a lucky patch of sun on a changeable and blustery day. The shadow from the foreground bush was a slight hindrance but not a complete disaster. It has since had the chop and is no longer an issue; presumably it was left during the summer months due to nesting birds.

On 23rd September 2022 LSL 47593 Galloway Princess leads 47614 (47853) at Lamberts Bridge Fairwood Westbury with Statesman Rail Cornish Explorer. Statesman 1z23 06:06 York - Penzance on first day of 3 day tour. In a very lucky patch of sun as total cloud just before into view and soon after. Only train and White Horse lit.

In a very lucky patch of sunshine, 37800 growls past Willington Crossing on the Stenson-Crewe branch working 5Q36 Doncaster West Yard-Allerton Depot dragging 769450 following a conversion from a 319. In actual fact, we were lucky to make it here following lots of traffic congestion in Derby.

In another lucky patch of sun just before the next big cloud arrived to put an end to proceedings, EWS liveried 66079 powers through Acton Bridge working 6E26 Knowsley Freight Terminal - Wilton EFW with a loaded binliner.

After my third bus trip of week tomorrow, I'm going to ignore the medical advide & get back on the bike, because it's so bloody boring home alone.

57303 "Alan Tracy" (In Virgin Trains livery & one of those loco's named after characters from "Thunderbirds", but on hire to Colas Railfreight) - 6J37 (1251 SX COY from Carlisle New Yd to Chirk Kronospan, which consisted of 13 individually numbered KFAs loaded with logs) - Warrington Bank Quay - afternoon c1630 - 26/05/09.

Due to clearance issues around Syston North Curve 7X23 Derby Litchurch Lane - Old Dalby requires a reversal at Leicester when going via Loughborough. This gives the opportunity to photograph both pairs of Class 20s leading the train at some point during the journey. After capturing 905 and 096 at Thurmaston I made my way to Kirby Bellars on the Melton line to witness 20314 leading the other BR Blue representative (20107) in a lucky patch of Sun. I am led to believe this is the final working of 7X23, the date was 26th August 2016
