A shot I've been after for a while, a heritage pair of Colas 56s - 56090/113 on 6M37 Ravenstruther - Carlisle yard loaded ballast in a lucky patch of sun near Elvanfoot.
Colas have been using a pair of 56s on the Ravenstruther - Carlisle ballast, saving tying up a 70 for a fairly short {mileage) working. 17/07/23

Having done seven 20 hours-round trip down Gaspésie's Baie des Chaleurs area in order to photograph the fascinating operations of the Société du Chemin de Fer de la Gaspésie, this February 2018 trip turned quite sour giving only five keepers on a 70 miles chase mainly due to the inclement weather, locomotive issues, a well too dark leader on a snowy background along with disturbed railroad operation due to a non-working CN winter plan.
One of the best accessible location along the Cascapedia subdivision was for westbound trains passing thru Escuminac. The combined grade fighted by ALCo 251 prime mover and 35MPH track speed gives a real taste of Gaspésie railroading.
Here, train 565 is working uphill under a lucky patch of sun, rolling about 3300 feet of 89-foot flat cars loaded with windmill blade, built by LM Windpower of Gaspé,QC.

GWR Collett 1450 arrived at the SVR from the DFR in March 2014, initially on hire for the year. Subsequently 1450 has been listed as part of the home fleet. Although not powerful enough to haul service trains on her own 1450 did so in 2014, double heading with 4566 to provide the required power.
The pair are seen crossing Oldbury Viaduct near Bridgnorth in a lucky patch of sun.
2000 to 1 (horsepower that is). The importance of this last 'Whistler' working was completely lost on the local inhabitants of the adjacent fields. Eating was way too important, this resident only looked up when the driver tooted to the gallery of seven here at Greengates. 40145 heads south in a very lucky patch of sun with the last 'Staycation Express' the 1Z46 17.58 Appleby to Skipton. I spent the day chasing Caroline around yesterday starting off with it at Carlisle I then made the move up to Scotland for it with no intentions of ever seeing the sun! My original plan was to get the inbound to Wemyss Bay at Paisley Gilmour St under the roof if it wasn't sunny, which went to plan thankfully, then I spent an hour or two back on Glasgow Central trying to plan my next move. I noticed that it was booked on platform 8 and being on the wrong end into Central I'd be shooting directly into the light even under the roof which was no good. I noticed a few blue holes starting to appear and made a last minute decision to bob it to Paisley St James in the hopes that the sun would shine. I'd never seen a shot here before nor did I know if it was do-able - all I knew was the sun angle was spot on. So I took my chances and thankfully managed this result in a very very lucky patch of sun which died just seconds later.
This is 37418 leading Caroline with the return 2Z03 Wemyss Bay-Glasgow Central having worked into Wemyss Bay earlier from Carlisle. It would then go ECS from Glasgow-Mossend for the following two day's trips.

Fortunately, the train came into a lucky patch of sun in the last few seconds, although some of the consist remained in shadow. I'm grateful to a friend who lifted the shadows for me in post processing, a skill that is certainly beyond my limited abilities.
10th Feb 2023 and in a lucky patch of light 991785 is seen shortly after Neudorf. We had left our hotel in Schlossel in total gloom but as we climbed up we were lucky with some sunshine. Linton, once the junction point with the Linton subdivision who ran 40 miles to the town of LaTuque with operation discontinued in February 1921.
Parts of the roadbed are still visible along with the bridge pillars, still in the Batiscan river.
Not so much remain of the small village who once occupy the area along with the wye track and engine house used by the Quebec & Lake St.John Railway, the builder of the line who originally ran from Quebec City toward Chambord Junction.

Looking like a sky straight out of a Hollywood disaster movie, a lucky patch of sun lights up a summer thunderstorm over Bozeman Pass as the Laurel-Bozeman turn drops downgrade at West End. Living in Alabama summer storms are nothing new, but seeing the sights of one blowing up in the open skies of the American West is still something that must be appreciated in person.
