Job done, everyone pauses in a lucky patch of sun to admire the sight before the 66 moves away. The first 6X13 Dollands Moor - Toton car train has arrived (on time), has shunted some empty car carriers into place for loading, and backed the loaded wagons into place for unloading imported Toyota Aygos. The trains will run loaded both ways, exporting cars built near Derby, and importing Toyota models not built in the UK from France and the Czech Republic.
The new hardstanding has a good amount of space, and the concrete pad allows cars to be driven on and off the trains. The drone is hovering outside the perimeter of Toton (I know the crop doesn't make it look that way), the main loco shed and paint shop etc are behind and to the left of this view.
Some 60s on a scrap line in the foreground, 60065 further back, resting in-between shunting duties.

Although I can`t give him credit for the idea, as I have done this shot before, but I thank Marcus www.flickr.com/photos/92367454@N02/ for posting his recent shots, which inspired me to do an up-to-date shot myself. GBRailfreight 47739 leads South Western Railway 701029 through a very lucky patch of sun at Kibworth Harcourt this evening, working 5Q10 Kettering to Humberstone Road. The unit was originally being towed by 47749 working from Derby to Eastleigh Works, however a fault with the brakes meant the train was stranded at Desborough (north of Kettering) for over five hours, whilst 47739 was sent from Leicester LIP to assist in recharging the brakes. Having limped a few miles south into Kettering station, the train then reversed with 47749 being uncoupled from the other end of the unit. A second loco (Rail Ops Group 37) was also sent, behind 47739, but in the end was not required.

A bit of a strange schedule as despite the destination of Woolmer Green Junction (which would block the running line!), this actually terminated more logically in the yard at Welwyn Garden City.
Looking more like an 80s railtour than late 90s diesel gala, 56006 on the belting rake of blue and grey MKIIs blasts through Burrs on the East Lancs Railway. A lucky patch of sun to end the day, 12th September 1999.
