You get a day to relax and have a nice time.

This is our fairwell view of Santorini when we left the port in the late afternoon. This Greek island is indeed something especially. I really hope the recent earthquake activities won't trigger any volcanic eruption. Afterall, the island is sitting in the middle of caldera. Most of the towns in the island are high up on the volanic tuff. You can see from this view that the port is really small. There is narrow road that zigzags to the top of the tuff where the settlementts are. The island only has a resident population of about 15000. Yet, 11000 of non-residents have already left. In my opinion, it 's probably good time to go now since most tourists have gone already. I would, if I don't have a family. The earthquakes for the past few days have only caused minor damages to the properties. Having in an earthquake zone, I am used any shake and rattle below me. I have also experienced the big earthquake in the Bay Area 36 years ago. The terrifying scene at the moment when the whole building shook was still imprinted in my brain.

In any case, Santorini is really beautiful. I will definitely go back. In fact, I might just go island hopping in the Mediterranean. These islands have so much history in them.

I called this a lucky shot because it was on my first encounter with these short-eared owls and taken in a split second focus and shoot.

I was parked in my car with both windows down. I heard the owl before I saw it. I watched it dip and dive as it approached the passenger side of my vehicle.

While sitting in the drivers seat I snapped this as it flew past the open passenger window not much more than 15 feet from the car. I cropped it to portrait format because it was originally on the far right side of the frame. Not perfect but I got a shot and was shocked I pulled it off.

Meantime after it flew by this window it turned up and over and landed on a pole just behind me. All other shots I have of the short eared owl is this same owl but I left it undisturbed on the post where it originally landed. It was a lucky day.

Macro Mondays Week 21: Superstition

A broken mirror is said to bring you seven years of bad luck. Hopefully not! I broke this mirror just to shoot this photo!

After getting the Mandarin Duck, we headed for Arrowhead Marsh to try our luck at the Tropical Kingbird. There were several people we ran into looking for this misguided bird but unable to find him, so we headed out for Lake Merrit in search of the Tufted Duck. As we're making our way past the islands to the large fountain we stopped to get some shots of the male Ruddy Duck sporting a new blue bill when we looked up to see several Greater Scaup being followed by the Tufted Duck...yes, that's the way it happened...:) We all got a good laugh at this 'good luck' of fortune!

A rusty grave marker in the Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital cemetery bears the number of a winning slot machine roll.

Every time I see this meadow grey, it reminds me of Falkor of The Neverending Story. So while some call this little animal Scoparia pyralella or moth, I call it my Luck Dragon...

I'll find right words for this.

After miserable luck with the class 20s, I ventured over to Pitstone, little did I know that everything was routed onto the main.. so here we see a still sort of shiny 66091 heading through Pitstone on the 4L48, Daventry-Purfleet ..The 66 was previously in EWS/DB cargo but has since been repainted into DRS' colours and has now become part of their fleet

But then again: it was Sunday at 5:17 am so...

Swallows move so quickly and erratically and they are fascinating to watch in flight. When I see them, I always take a few shots in hopes that I'll be on the mark. It does take skill and practice, but it does take a "whole lotta luck" as well.

This is one of the lucky shots. I not only got the Swallow in flight, but I also got his reflection in the water.

This was taken with my 5.6 - 400 mm lens, which doesn't have IS.

Tougher than the rest

Today I had a little wander through Hollywell Dene and spotted these curled up leaves with snow in them. As I was framing my shot a little extra sunlight shone through and brought out the colours just that little bit more.

At Chatsworth, the Bloomer Line crosses the TP&W using its ex-IC trackage. Todays northbound train saw the LTEX 3802 dropped off at Risk with some 20 cars or so, letting the BLOL7561 lead into town. The GP10, ex-CR (reblt by Paducah in '78) but whose heritage stretches back to NYC6002, passes the R2-derivitive signals that guard the TP&W/BLOL diamond. Chatsworth is home to some of the only signals on the Bloomer, though both dwarfs are a little ways out of frame.

I've been trying to shoot the Bloomer for nearly two years now, but I've never had an ounce of luck with them - never knowing what's running and when, and usually if something was running, I was stuck at work. The stars aligned when I had the full week off of work to make time to bring my girlfriend over to the US from England. We had been wandering a bit aimlessly when scanner traffic suggested the Bloomer might be up to something. A little more wandering and before we knew it, we were following the train out of Gibby and northbound. I think she's my good luck charm now!

Not the leader I was hoping for. Buried behind four tired Union Pacific motors is FWWR SD45 no. 2025, which was set to lead the train before these Class 1 brutes were added to the consist. Better luck next time....Photo November 26, 2017.

Good luck!

Lack of WiFi in the hotel means that you lucky people can't see my picture of choice.

Better luck next time?

This photo is one of my favourites from my Fuji S5500. It was a real luck to see this little snake to birth. I won't forget it.

I hope you'll like this photo.

These lovely white flowers were photographed in Japan. They reminded me of white four leaf clovers, hence the title. I must apologise for not knowing the name of the flowers.

This image is either luck or not... I believe not so much. the image isn't perfect, but it was the only image I was able to get.

to start I was hoping to finish work early and go take some pictures... didn't finish till 3.30 and only had a short time. I walked 1km to this location, spent some time setting up and try to position the camera so its not taking all the wind and ocean spray. I got the camera focused, started taking my exposure then when it hit 56seconds...."change battery pack", I took the 2 batteries out of the battery grip, put my other two in and "change battery pack". spent the whole day wanting to take photos and when I had the chance, I forgot to charge my batteries! this was the only image I had.
