Taken at Kata Beach in Phuket. I loved the colors of the boat and the sunset and the beautiful Thai letters on the boat. With the help of locals, I found out later the letters mean a very popular Thai expression "Good luck red" which matched perfectly with the color of the sunset. Coincidentally, red is my favorite color.

There's a bug on my ear! On my Lambs Ear, I meant to say!

So the saying goes, a Ladybird or Ladybug as we call them here, is supposed to bring good fortune...Of course, it's been raining like crazy, and I lost my internet for a few hours...and I'm still waiting for my fortune...but, you never know!

A 10cm (or 4 inches) wide piece of wall that caught my eye amongst all sorts of graffiti and tags and that had been sprayed over several times.

Luck's corner shop was built in 1937. This was owned by a butcher for many years. It is now the site of a popular restaurant, "The Black Cow". Naturally the restaurant specialises in steaks.

A pronghorn buck decided to cross a dirt road as we watched nearby from our car.

On a beautiful September 20, 1991, a LTV Mining (former Erie Mining) taconite train slowly unloads over the dock at Taconite Harbor, Minnesota. The train is pulled by EMD F9A No. 4213, GP38 No. 4215, F9B No. 4225 and F9A No. 4210. Two lake boats are docked below. Up front is the Adam E. Cornelius, a 680-foot vessel sailing for American Steamship Co., and behind is the Charles M. Beeghly, a 806-foot boat from the Interlake Steamship Company fleet. Over the years, the Adam E. Cornelius has earned a reputation of being a “hard luck” boat—it has been grounded several times, lost power in open water, struck an Interstate Highway bridge, suffered major ice damage—yet still remains active today! I sure wish the railroad was…

Handholding at bird shot with a 600mm lens at 1/160th is a recipe for disappointment. Luckily in this case both the the goldfinch and I remained still enough to capture this in dawn light at Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware

Monument Valley's "money tree" is a historic juniper tree where Navajo children used to hide coins, received from tourists for photos, under the bark for spiritual blessings.

The tree is a well-known feature of local guided tours, such as the Dineh Trail Rides horseback tours, and is a popular place for visitors to leave a monetary offering for good luck.

My heart goes out to the fellow who has just arrived at the fishing pier. The afternoon had been sunny, warm, calm, but just as he set out for some relaxation the winds kicked up out of nowhere and the skies filled with clouds making the temperature drop like a rock. Better luck next time.

Iceland

Rainbow chasing became somewhat of a hobby in Iceland and Scotland due to the wild nature of the weather and the low sun. This mountain in the south east of Iceland looked completely different when we last saw it 1 year prior in mist and stormy conditions. On this day, the wind abated leaving crystal clear reflections in front of the mountain. This rainbow persisted for several hours afterward. The colour cast in the sky was from using hitech filters - I chose to leave the magenta in this image as I liked the effect overall !

With another bluebird sky today, it looked like these folks were setting up their Otter ice fishing tents for comfort - gas powered ice augers and even interlocking foam flooring squares for insulation. It took only minutes to set up but the kids had already found a couple of existing holes to try their luck.

The name anemone comes from the Greek word for "windflower." According to Greek mythology, the anemone sprang from Aphrodite's tears as she mourned the death of Adonis.

Thought to bring luck and protect against evil, legend has it that when the anemone closes its petals, it's a signal that rain is approaching.

Still other mythology connects the anemone to magical fairies, who were believed to sleep under the petals after they closed at sunset. Perhaps it's because of this magical and prophetic tales that today in the language of flowers, anemones represent anticipation

Thanks for taking time to comment, fave and look at my work. I really appreciate.

Sometimes you're lucky or at least half lucky. On the road trip across New Zealand's South Island, one stop was Nugget Point. The lighthouse is a great photo spot. Especially with the Milky Way at night. I was sad at first that our schedule didn't allow a longer stay there. On the way back from the lighthouse I turned around again and saw this rain cloud moving over the sea. At that moment the sun came out and a rainbow formed. Unfortunately only halfway... But this moment made up for the tight tour.

As luck would have it ... while setting up and working the location for compositions, a canoe paddler crossed in front of us along the calm Lake Superior shore.

She leans into borrowed luck, smiling as if belief were permanent.

The water reflects everything and promises nothing.

Even joy here feels temporary—polished smooth by countless hands,

remembered longer by the harbor than by those who pass through it.

This trinket was given to me (and my other coworkers) by a Chinese colleague a few years ago for Chinese New Year, and is supposed to be a symbol for good luck. I'll have to take him at his word. for 120 pictures in 2020 #48 "Good Luck or bad luck (charms, superstitions, etc)".

Good Luck Lake, Adirondacks, NY

A wet trail leads down to the shore, through the reeds that line the water. Sounds come slowly back after my footsteps stop, my intrusion beginning to be forgiven. Late November is rust and blue skies, on a good day. And today the lake lives up to its name. It sits calmly, just below the rim of the bowl, the world around it floating on it's surface. Late afternoon brings a melancholy to me. A sadness, I guess, of all the things unaccomplished. Projects unfinished, places left unseen, loves unrequited. I wish I could cast my expectations out onto that mirror, suspend them for awhile, letting winter freeze around them and not think about them until spring. But I keep them to myself, knowing they would sink. Here on the edge of solid ground, I float too--between hope that things will be different, and resignation that they never will. Luck, good or bad, sometimes falls on us out of that blue. But mostly, we make our own.

Wish me luck.

I hope for your prayers.

Unexpected happens.

If it goes, it goes.
