Unlike in the US, here in Germany I rarely know about any special movement ahead of time. Most of the times it means missing things and seeing pictures later on the internet but sometimes the surprises can be fun. Yesterday since the weather was slightly sunny and pretty warm I decided to ride my bike to Muenchen Sued to see if anything interesting would show up. Right as my window of light was closing this showed up, a RailAdventure 111 pulling a new C2 trainset for the Munich U-Bahn. After a short but agonizing wait while a passenger train overtook the freight, I got the shot in the last seconds of sun for the day!
Clearly a railroad about out of time, this eastbound Dead Freight looks its name, a motley collection of low-priority loads but mostly empties pulled by a clapped-out collection of oil-leaking, smoke-belching locomotives years past their prime. On November 10, 1979, this 85-car train passes the salvaged siding of Corfu, west of Othello, Washington, behind U28B 5511, U30B 5609, U25B 5056, GP9s 280 and 285, and GP35 1500.

Y'all!! Look what I found today....Finally!! I've never found one before. In all my 33 years!
I decided to take my 52 weeks in my own hands without anymore themes from here on out. I believe the themes were sucking the life out of me and blocking any creativity. I felt so anxious this week every time I thought about the theme for the week. The themes are not hard by any means but I keep freezing up and dread for the project has for sure set in. I want to try my best to save it and finish it out on my own. Wish me luck!
I had been out early to meet a few friends but ended up finding my way around the Missabe sub on my own before work. I had made the mistake of letting my Trainmon 5 run overnight - now it was all out of sync; on a different planet than what was reality on the CN, and I had missed a train because of it. I was about to do a U turn at Munger when I noticed another railfan parked there, standing trackside with a camera slung over their shoulder, so I pulled up behind and asked what they were waiting for.
"Ore loads, should be the last thing for a while."
Okay then. So, I myself get up and stand there with them. About three minutes later, a horn is heard in the distance, and in the frost, pellets steaming, an IC Deathstar leads two orange BLE motors southbound towards Proctor.
After spending much of the morning with T31, I decided to switch to T59 & caught up with them in Waynesville. As they continued west towards Hazelwood, I noticed some Budd passenger cars in the siding at Hazelwood. To my joy, the power couples up to them & two boxcars bound for GSMR & Jackson Paper in Sylva, respectively. So out of dumb luck, the first day I spend on the BLU, they end up going all the way to the GSMR interchange in Sylva. 1-16-23

This good luck charm was created two years ago for my 14-year-old niece Hanne who had to fight against lymphoma. She did great and the camp against cancer was won by Hanne. 2021 started off nicely but Mr Hodgkin thought otherwise. My dear niece, almost 16, has to fight the cancer again. Unfortunately, we both have to bring out our lucky charms again. For all of you who have to fight the same disease, a lot of strength, courage and love from the people around you. Next Monday, Hanne will have her first chemo. I wish her and everyone else in the same situation lots of courage.

I cannot make up my mind whether this is a Trip Down Memory Lane or a What is this?
This is something for you to look at and take a guess as to what it is!
For some people this will be as easy as pie, others might have to phone a friend..... Good luck!
Your correct, wild, imaginative, out of the box and out of this world guesses are being looked forward to. 😁
Post as many guesses as you like!
As usual the answer will be posted in a few days' time. Enjoy!

Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.”

I've had such poor luck catching sunsets with clouds lately. We've had three conditions, no clouds, the clouds vanish just before sunset, or it is completely overcast.... On this one I had a day with a little sunset luck, and didn't see the birds until I got home.

A line of greylag geese flying across the rising sun I could hear them before I could see them luck plays a great part in photography!
When I first saw this Red-tailed Hawk balancing at the top of a century plant it had a freshly caught rabbit. From the time it started to the end it took about 45minutes to devour his meal. What surprised me the most was watching it pulling the fur off but for the most part it ate pretty much everything fur and all. The very last image it apparently wanted to save the rabbits foot for 'good luck'!
Toward the end of his meal a large group of kids on a field trip along with their escorts & myself watched this hawk. He came down on lower branches to clean his beak and feet and fluff his feathers and didn't seem the least bit disturbed by his audience!
is when the following happens:
1) You end up in a town you've never been before trying to scout a location for a photo of an approaching train (NS #218)
2) You check four locations with access to the tracks and decide none of them are great.
3) You settle for a crossing only to notice a building up the nearby hill. You investigate.
4) You realize that beyond the building is a vacant field with a decent view of a recently rehabbed fill
5) You hear the sound of an approaching northbound you had no idea was coming, but are comforted in knowing the southbound is lined for the main closest to you. At that moment you hear the southbound's horn, as well
6) The trains are doing 25 mph and 35 mph, respectively, and end up meeting right in your viewfinder!
Oh, and you cap off the day with tickets at the 48-yard line for the Carolina Panthers - Arizona Cardinals football game that were given to you earlier in the week!
Gotta' love luck!
This is our fairwell view of Santorini when we left the port in the late afternoon. This Greek island is indeed something especially. I really hope the recent earthquake activities won't trigger any volcanic eruption. Afterall, the island is sitting in the middle of caldera. Most of the towns in the island are high up on the volanic tuff. You can see from this view that the port is really small. There is narrow road that zigzags to the top of the tuff where the settlementts are. The island only has a resident population of about 15000. Yet, 11000 of non-residents have already left. In my opinion, it 's probably good time to go now since most tourists have gone already. I would, if I don't have a family. The earthquakes for the past few days have only caused minor damages to the properties. Having in an earthquake zone, I am used any shake and rattle below me. I have also experienced the big earthquake in the Bay Area 36 years ago. The terrifying scene at the moment when the whole building shook was still imprinted in my brain.
In any case, Santorini is really beautiful. I will definitely go back. In fact, I might just go island hopping in the Mediterranean. These islands have so much history in them.
I called this a lucky shot because it was on my first encounter with these short-eared owls and taken in a split second focus and shoot.
I was parked in my car with both windows down. I heard the owl before I saw it. I watched it dip and dive as it approached the passenger side of my vehicle.
While sitting in the drivers seat I snapped this as it flew past the open passenger window not much more than 15 feet from the car. I cropped it to portrait format because it was originally on the far right side of the frame. Not perfect but I got a shot and was shocked I pulled it off.
Meantime after it flew by this window it turned up and over and landed on a pole just behind me. All other shots I have of the short eared owl is this same owl but I left it undisturbed on the post where it originally landed. It was a lucky day.

After getting the Mandarin Duck, we headed for Arrowhead Marsh to try our luck at the Tropical Kingbird. There were several people we ran into looking for this misguided bird but unable to find him, so we headed out for Lake Merrit in search of the Tufted Duck. As we're making our way past the islands to the large fountain we stopped to get some shots of the male Ruddy Duck sporting a new blue bill when we looked up to see several Greater Scaup being followed by the Tufted Duck...yes, that's the way it happened...:) We all got a good laugh at this 'good luck' of fortune!
