Which do you like better, California vs Orlando Tower of Terror?
I am fortune enough to have a great roommate who works at the Hollywood Tower of Terror. He is a blast to hang out with and I enjoy going to see him at work. Sometimes it's just to bum a ride home, but mostly because he's great at what he does. This particular night I was coming to get some shots... and then a ride home. I got off the bus and this was what I saw. I whipped out my tripod and boom got this shot with a couple others. I love the Tower of Terror here in Walt Disney World. The difference (of course I have to compare everything to Disneyland) between the Disneyland version is interesting. I love the queue and the riding into the 5th dimension parts of this one, but the boiler room in California combined with some of the effects and the drops, I am certain of, are better over there.
The angle of the Tower here is not as photogenic as in California, and it makes it a bit difficult to get a great shot, or at least of the main side. I'm pretty sure I can find an angle somewhere in the park, but I haven't been able to. Challenge Accepted! Just some fun tidbits about Tower that you may not have known. Expedition Everest is only 0.9 inches taller than Tower. There is no air conditioning on the right side 5th dimension corridors. And lastly, two of the chairs in the lobby are from the 1600's.

Which park icon is your favorite?
One of my first times in the Magic Kingdom fell on a full moon. I was surprised there weren't more people trying to capture what I saw. Then again this is not an easy shot to get when the moon is so bright. Even then trying to give the moon its full justice versus a crisp and bright foreground is also not easy to do. But I'm glad I got to get this photo on the day I did. Turns out that the full moon was something special. Had you stayed up that night to about 3 am...

3 Exposures: +/- 1.0 step
It's been a while since I've done an HDR (now I remember why I love HDR's) - tried something a little different with the camera settings this time.
I tried a few variations, including a B&W version.. but finally settled on this one.
Decided to get up early and try a crack at an HDR sunrise shot from Coronado.
Shot Details:
FL: 7mm
ISO: 100
f8
5 shot bracket at 1/4, 1/15, 1/8, 1/2, 1sec
PP details:
Photomatix for HDR
Photoshop for levels, curves, saturation, dodge, burn, etc
Aperture for other fine adjustments
So far, this has been my best shot to date. I'm also developing a nice PP workflow. I love HDR, but I try to stay in the middle, in terms of what looks realistic and not.
Thanks for lookin!
Which Harry Potter House would Animal Kingdom fit in?
When I got here to Florida, I was told where I was going to be working. I was given a chance to work in one of the least visited parks of the Walt Disney World Resort, Animal Kingdom! The Hufflepuff of the 4 parks, for all you Harry Potter Fans out there. So I...

I just love HDRs! I had been wanting to do this for some time. This was taken at a busy time of day. I had to run out, set up the shot before cars came from either side. There were numerous times before I got this series (on wide bracketed, high multi-shot mode) that I ran out and just ran back.
This display, brought to us by the Virginia Tourism Corporation, reminds us that Virginia is still for lovers. I found this while wandering around Old Town Manassas the other night.
Got a delivery at work of a couple of chillers for the air conditioning of one of our resort accommodation blocks. Just love HDR and Trucks.

It is up to your personal taste.
Many will love HDR, while many other will strongly dislike it.
The example is based on one single identical RAW file.
Shot in Ordesa with a Canon EOS 30D, ISO 100 f6,3 1/30 sec.
This is a very slightly treated combination of 5 separate shots that allowed me to achieve a full dynamic range treatment of the potting shed interior.
I love HDR!

Is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad better in the front, middle or back?
I do not usually take photos with people in them, but when I do, it's because I saw an angle that had to be captured in the moment. Luckily I had my camera out while on the Liberty Belle River Boat as we were going around the Rivers of America. I only really had one chance to get this shot as the train was coming through. I made my HDR from a single shot. Although I was...

Have you seen Enchanted Tales With Belle?
The other day I kinda got dragged into Enchanted Tales with Belle. I wasn't excited as much as I should have been, but I decided I should get into it for the sake of the children watching and participating. I got selected as a soldier and put my all into it. I had a blast. I love this show and can't wait to go again and see it from the audience perspective.

For assignment cwd751: HDR.
I freakin love HDR. I'm a nut. I'm also anal when it comes to it has to be real looking. Quirks are good right??
I wish this assignment was in 2 weeks though, I'll be in Louisiana and plan on HDRing more of my plantations...
A number of people have sent me a note telling me they are shocked I used HDR !! I know I've been very hard on it's use but here was a case where it worked perfectly for what I needed. Left side is the straight out of RAW version and Right is same basic image with Photomatix "Tone Mapping" Plug-in used in Photoshop CS3. Here were my Tone Mapping settings:
Photomatix Tone Mapping Plug-In
Strength 64
Color Saturation 59
Light Smoothing +1 (4th button from left)
Luminosity -8
Micro-contrast (5th button from left (Max))
Micro-smoothing 14
White Clipping 0.65%
Black Clipping 0.28%
Gamma = 1.00
NOTE: Just because this worked pretty well doesn't mean I love HDR. In most cases I think it's used improperly because it is being asked to blend images where the various exposures are too far away (-1.-, 0, +1 etc) instead of smaller steps. This was done with a single image with fairly moderate settings so it's not all that extreme. In cases like this, I think it can become a very useful tool to enhance areas in an image (with a layer mask).

What animal do you have to see at Animal Kingdom?
I was in Disney's animal Kingdom the other day and I stumbled upon this little area on the Oasis, right before going to Discovery Island. This part of Animal Kingdom was first designed to be a series of trails that would take the adventurer around to meet new animals and plants and all this with no maps. The issue with this is that it would take people forever just to...

Wow, with all the images I have for upload, not sure why I chose this one. I guess after last night, my memory of this location hit a cord with me. Honfleur Harbor on the West coast of France in Normandy, a location I hope to explore again someday soon!
I must say, that although I love HDR techniques and what it can do to an image, I am a little over it. Although I have quite a few ready to post that I intend to upload sooner or later, its nice to take a break from it. If you have followed my images so far, you might agree.
Sometimes, in my quest to capture the essence of a scene or location, I tend to get a little bit hung up of the dynamic range and what I can create in post. Sure, there becomes an art to it in post, but sometimes the real reason you were drawn to the scene gets lost in that translation. For this image, it was all about the movement, the quiet moment of the couple, and the reflections of light in this serene French harbor. My hope is that you can feel it as well......
I gotta admit, I love HDR. I certainly enjoy single exposures, but when done right, the details brought out by HDR just pop to me.

This was photographed on a Sunday and I was coming to the conclusion that I'd have to try to shoot something inside the house for day 23. On my way home, I stopped at the local gas station to get a snack and drink. I'm on the prowl 24/7 for my next photograph, everything I see, I view from the perspective "Can I make an interesting photograph out of what I'm seeing?" So when I saw the military vehicles, I immediately knew I had to try to shoot these for day 23's entry. I love HDR and I am always thinking about using the style of photography when I shoot inanimate objects. It was evening time and the sun was setting fast, and I don't have a tripod so I had to shoot quickly. So I set bracket mode to 5 with +1 exposure increments, found my base exposure, set the shoot mode to Ch (Continuous high speed) mode, calmed my breathing and held my breath as I held down the shutter-release button. I snapped a few more photos from other vantage points. While I was shooting, I could hear the two truck drivers talking, so I walked around to ask them if they mind if I took a few more shots of the vehicles close up. To my surprise, one of the truck drivers was D. Jones (the gentlemen on the right), my fellow soldier from C Company, 319th MI BN at Fort Bragg. I hadn't seen Jones since 1999. It is always good to run into a fellow soldier & veteran. We exchanged contact information, talked about how some of our fellow soldiers we knew from Bragg, and I asked if I could take their photograph. I can't count the times I've ran into someone I know in the oddest of places, stuff like this has happened to me in Germany, Belgium, North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, and Pennsylvania just to name a few places.
The background HDR photograph was created by combining 5 bracketed shots using Photomatix 4. The foreground HDR photograph was created with a single image and converted to HDR using Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Nik Software's HDR Efex Pro filter.
As for the composite of the final two photographs, I got the idea to try this from watching a tutorial by Joel Grimes. I've actually learned quite a lot of interesting techniques from the Joel Grimes HDR tutorial I watched. You can view and buy Joel Grimes' tutorials by clicking here. Another helpful tutorial which I used as a guide for creating this photograph is Blend Mode Compositing by GlynDewis from YouTube.
I love talking about Photoshop and photography and believe that sharing techniques, information, and ideas are just ways to help me continue to learn, grow, and contribute to Photography community. It is always important to give back in whatever field or venue you work in, help someone along the way because someone helped you at some point in your life and profession.

Took pretty much the same picture with three different exposures (underexposed, normal and overexposed) and then merged them together in HDR Pro in PS. I Love HDR photography, especially when it comes to landscapes, it gives this surreal feeling. Also love the colors in this one.
For class we had to do an HDR of something reflective. Please note this is a surreal HDR, not a photo realistic one. She told us to go all out. Thankfully my sister had the Polar Express Bell. I'm not quite sure I love HDR,but I do think i'll be playing with it more, especially with buildings and what not.
Tomorrow is the first day of OCTOBER!!!! I'm so excited. I'm considering doing a scary/creepy photo every day of October..would anyone be interested in seeing that?

This is an image I took in Alabama over a year ago. I didn't do anything with it because it was horribly exposed and thought it was useless. You can see the original in comments section. I took this and ran a single file conversion in photomatix and edited in photoshop. This is one other reason I love HDR. You have the ability to fix images that you thought might be useless. I guess a better way would be just to expose it right the first time. But that's to easy, right? I love places like this because it makes you wonder the history and what is so important to lock it up like this. The building was very old and very small. It might have held the holy grail.
