I love HDR, this is one that I like, it isn't perfect but I like it.

DAY 227. 15/8/11

Playing with depth of field a few weeks ago, I took this shot at the Myer Mural Hall. What can I say, I love Bokeh, just as much as I love HDR. More tomorrow.

A beautiful sunset tonight! I was inside working on pictures and the wife called me, telling me the sun was a big red ball. Unfortunately, she was in a different place to see it than I. I did the best I could from where I was. To be perfectly honest with you all..."Holy Shit! I love HDR" (Best Viewed Large +)

I was asked to photograph the interior of the Zeiterion again this year for their yearly promo literature and web site. They just love HDR. The photo I am seen with here was taken last year around the same time. They got a lot of mileage out of the one.

I am so honored. And even happier to get paid for all this fun!

Pitch dark inside, bright sun outside - you got to love HDR!

I absolutely love HDR photographs. I know they're not to everyone's taste, but I just think they're so pleasing to the eye.

This is my first proper try at HDR, and it's 3 bracketed shots at -2, 0 and +2, merged together and played with in Photomatix.

I took the photographs in Boldon, near my house, whilst out walking with my dog. Whilst the subject matter isn't the most interesting in the world, I'm pleased with the result; it's definitely a technique I'll try again.

Boy, do I love HDR. Never in all the years that I have spent in this building, have I ever got a shot even close to this.

I thought this was a fun idea. Austin and Anthony gave me a hand with setting up the lights, so nothing was broken this time. I'm really starting to love HDR photos, they're really fun to take. I hope this photo isn't took goofy, I took other ones that looked good as well, I might use them instead.

What do you think of this new style?

A while back I was in Hollywood Studios and walking around taking photos and getting used to the park itself. I was supposed to meet up with a bunch of other photographers. I got a head start on the day and had already taken most of the shots I wanted to before they even arrived. The issue was that the meet up was in the middle of...

Love HDR and how amazingly beautiful it captures this scene.

Life is mostly froth and bubble,

Two things stand like stone.

Kindness in another's trouble,

Courage in your own.

Love is not written on paper, for paper can be erased. Nor is it etched on stone, for stone can be broken. But it is inscribed on a heart and there it shall remain forever.

A grave of which I don't actually know the "owner". I just thought it looked cool. The title refers to the text that is below the sculpture.

I figured I would share this new technique I have been messing with in photoshop. I love HDR, even the overly processed ones, there is a place for them too. I was messing around in photoshop and I created a very simple HDR like effect.

Here is the simple tutorial, I also have made an action for it if anyone is interested in it.

BTW, Using PSCS3

Step 1: First open the photo you wish to work with. Then select IMAGE> ADJUSTMENTS> AUTO LEVELS. Now make a copy of the original picture. The bottom layer will be called "background", then "background copy" on top of that.

Step 2: With "background copy" selected go to Layer> New Adjustment layer> Black & White> Infrared. Set layer blend mode to MULTIPLY and then hit ctrl+e to merge it down. Now, make a copy of this layer (it will be named "background layer copy 2")

Step 3: Select the top layer "background layer copy 2" and change the blend mode to "Color Dodge", set the opacity to 50% or whatever looks best to you and then hit ctrl+e to merge it down

That's it!

It works well on some images but not all images.

Without a doubt, I should have been around when Elvis first hit Sun Studios, and when you could take your hot rod to the diner and have waitresses in roller-skates serving you burgers and fries. But on the positive side, I’m in California where there are actually some great looking and close-to-authentic diners.

The Studio Diner is a diner that I first visited over a year ago when I first came to San Diego. It is situated next to the film studio that produced the TV series “Silk Stalkings” and “Renegade”. So upon another visit a couple of weeks ago I decided I had to try shoot it. And boy am I glad I did!

With the exception of the previous post’s California Roll photo, these two photos are the first photos that I’m actually happy with. Although I know there are still plenty of mistakes, I am still happy with the outcome.I love chrome, and I love HDR…together these two come out beautifully. And in black and white with a slight little help from PhotoTools the above photo looks great enlarged. I definitely paid attention to the composition of this shot making sure one’s eyes are lead from the below corners to the centre and main focal point of the frame.

Now it’s time for an Elvis burger with peanut butter and his speciality shake of banana, peanut butter and marshmallow.
