After going along the HDR route with some success, I am returning to processing and shooting, LO-FI. I realised that as much as I love HDR, one can sometimes forget the essence of capturing an image. This mini series documents a stay in a bed and breakfast.

I love HDR reflections!

I could have stayed here for hours taking pics - but I had about 20 minutes before I had to get off the beach or get trapped. I'm trying to get off the HDR but just couldn't expose for the sky and the cliff without it - so I've used a light touch HDR. I walked here with the local ranger - who showed me where the 'iron ladder of doom' was to climb down onto the beach. Turns out he loves HDR and my favourite place in Scotland - so we had a great chat.

I love HDR like look to this picture. It isn't though.

HDR of the water wheel at the Cape...

I love HDR's ability to work the colours ... Especially dark aeas of shade...

Built in the late 1800s this wheel is calcified in limestone and hasn't turned for close to a century!!!

Amazing little church we stumbled upon in a small town in the French Alps. Had a small cemetery outside. No guards or tickets, just a donation box.

HDR image of our christmas tree this year. We went for a more dramatic image. The entire tree had a theme of nature and fall. I love how with HDR you can see the detail of the feathers on the large bulb ornament. Gotta love HDR.

Thoughts?

I love HDR. There's many a haters out there, but done right, it's the correct tool for the task at hand. In this case, pulling out better contrast in the upper tangent arc against very diffuse cirrus clouds and allowing for diffraction spikes and a sun that isn't blown out.
