I like longing
climbing up the railings of sound and color
catching into my open mouth
the frozen scent
I like my loneliness
suspended higher
than a bridge
embracing the sky with its arms
and my love walking barefoot over the snow

Can't wait to see Hibiscus blooming here in IL once again. Last summer we had a potted Hibiscus tree on our deck that bloomed and bloomed and bloomed!

We were recently at the coast and it was shocking to realize that it was Leo's first trip there. In other words, our first trip to the beach in over eight months. I didn't realize HOW VERY MUCH (sorry for shouting, but that's what it felt like) I needed to get out of town for a few days and into a beautiful landscape. We had a lot of beach time as a family of five, but I also managed to make it out with just Leo (sleeping on me) during sunset one evening, and that hour of being quiet and taking it all in did wonders for my soul.

I sat and watched this bonobo for a long time. Others were playing but this one just kind of stared off into the distance. I think it wanted to be free.

Yesterday, a whisper in the sands of time,
Where echoes of lost words fade away,
In the twilight of memories, they climb,
To dance with shadows at the close of day.
The winds of change, they softly sigh,
Through dunes where dreams once lay,
And in the silence, we hear the cry,
Of moments past, now swept away.
Each grain of sand, a tale untold,
Of laughter, tears, and fleeting grace,
In the heart's deep chambers, they unfold,
A timeless dance in a boundless space.
Yet as the echoes gently fade,
And twilight turns to night,
We find in whispers, softly laid,
The seeds of dawn's new light.

Me and Pochiko headed for North to see the Japanese maple.
The little red stars were beckoning at us.

Risin og Kellingin (Risin and Kellingin) are two sea stacks just off the northern coast of the island of Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands close to the town of Eiði. The name Risin og Kellingin means The Giant and the Witch (or Hag) and relates to an old legend about their origins. The Giant (Risin) is the 71m stack further from the coast, and the witch (Kellingin) is the 68m pointed stack nearer land, standing with her legs apart.
A legend tells how, once upon a time, the giants in Iceland were envious and decided that they wanted the Faroes. So the giant and the witch (his wife in some versions of the story) were sent down to the Faroe Islands to bring them back.
They reached the north-westernmost mountain Eiðiskollur, and the giant stayed in the sea while the witch climbed up the mountain with a heavy rope to tie the islands together so that she could push them onto the giant's back. However, when she attached the rope to the mountain and pulled, the northern part of the mountain split. Further attempts were also unsuccessful, and they struggled through the night, but the base of the mountain was firm and they could not move it.
If the sun shines on a giant or witch, it turns to stone. So it was that as they continued to struggle they didn't notice time passing, and as dawn broke a shaft of sunlight put a stop to their efforts by turning them to stone on the spot. They have stood there ever since, staring longingly across the ocean towards Iceland.

Somewhere I have always wanted to go, after seeing "that" Hovis advert, the shot had been seasonally planned, the weather watched closely for the perfect day to go, hotel booked. And it didn't disappoint as a location, stunning and breathtakingly pretty. Especially with the mist across the view behind it.
The only negative was the sheer number of people who yet again intentionally tried to ruin the shot by: looking at me, at my camera on tripod, and then perching themselves directly in front of my camera. (The road is wide enough for at least ten people to stand side by side here) I have a lovely shot of a group of 7 men, in a huddle directly in front of me. Who just stood there for a chat.. then they moved to one side of me to take a pic and wandered off. Then the female who stood directly in shot for 25 minutes before coming up to me and with much laughter saying.. "Did i make you miss the light by standing there for that long?" to which I replied, I was perfectly patient and there was plenty of light left, she sneered and walked off. Then the family whose child was clearly trying to audition for Chelsea FC by laying on the road right in that patch of light feigning injury. He soon recovered at the promise of a bacon buttie after about 15 minutes of laying in the foetal position.
The only human intervention I was longing for in the shot was an old man driving up the hill on a mobility scooter with a baguette in the front basket. It didn't happen though... but we could dream, and I stood there for 3 hours waiting, just in case it did. Eventually when it dropped to just under 0 Degrees, the people stopped standing in front of my camera and I got the shot... and I like it.
Away. Maybe physical, over distance, but not from my heart.
And what is longing if not my own inability to
Fulfill my love? My emotions?
Distance of physical essence or time –
But longing is tangible. Its real.
And it sore.
This longing to what can not be now.
What was and probably will be.
Yet, it is not at present. The looks, colors, smells
all those bring memories alive.
Make me longing to what will be, beyond time and space.
This combination that leaves me with
the taste for more
