At a tiny speck on the map known as Brimson, a loaded train from Arcelor Mittal's Minorca Mine creeps towards the siding where it will meet an empty train heading for US Steel's Minntac Mine. Leading the way is the Illinois Central SD40-2 6251, the last black unit on the CN roster still sporting a white frame stripe.

A couple of harvester ant workers labouring on the promenade at Olhão. I'm pretty sure they belong to the Genus Messor, but am less sure of the species. They don't have brown heads so they are not Messor barbarus, a widespread pest in Iberia. My best guess is that they are Messor bouvieri.
In common with many harvester ants the workers come in a range of sizes. The smallest locate food sources and lay trails whilst the medium and large sizes drag food back to the nest. The larger ant in this shot is about 7-8mm long - about half the size of its sunflower seed load. The seeds were being dragged back to a newly excavated nest entrance that had caused obvious damage to the cobbled surface of the promenade.

I was at the far end of the island taking pictures of an Adelie penguin rookery when I spotted this fantastic backdrop of glaciers and mountains beyond the rocky point where the Zodiac boats landed. We were visiting the Yalour Islands which are in the south part of the Wilhelm Archipelago on the Antarctic Peninsula.
This was one of the trickier landings, as we had to step off the zodiac onto large slippery boulders and navigate up the hill on an icy path. I managed to stay upright though !
The pink and green tones are not penguin poop; they're snow algae.

There are already some awesome Power Loaders out there like those from Larry Lars and ninbendo.
I wanted to have a go and try to get a small scale loader close to the one used by Ripley. The leg mod allows for a small amount of articulation.
Loading has begun. You can see the the slip has two tracks which line up with two tracks on the barge. I believe the sip has a way to move the barge right/left to line up the other tracks for loading.
Hi everybody! Well I still don't have my new camera. The story of my life, right?! Anyways, I miss you all and being on Flickr so I'm posting something from the archives in the meantime. I'll try to be more active on here. And since I start school in 3 weeks, I'll be on my computer daily.
Thanks so much for stopping by my Flickr friends!
