Finished loading at the U.S. Steel Minntac plant at Mountain Iron, MN, UP 8155 led all-rail U724 with still steaming taconite pellets will snake its way south to a destination at Convent, LA some 1400 miles away where it's probably warmer than the minus 12 degrees they are going through now.

A light rain falls as CP 8822 South heads south on the Fording River Sub with a loaded unit coal train bound for export. The train has loaded from the Fording Mine, and is passing the connecting track to the Greenhills mine, both of which make up 2 of the 4 mines on the 32.6 mile Subdivision in Southern British Columbia
Although it's mostly plastic, DJI's Mavic Pro drone does a great job at flying through a rainstorm, as was needed to be done in order to get the bird back to my location!
The Deseret Power Railway rolls west near milepost 23 with another unit coal train for the Bonanza Power Plant. This is the 2nd trick run which generally, when there is a train, finishes loading between 3 and 4 pm, and arrives at the power plant around 5 pm.
The DPR runs roughly 35 rail miles between Blue Mountain Energy's Deserado Mine loadout near Dinosaur, CO and the Bonanza Power Plant near Bonanza, UT.

Another one from a night at Straumur with aurora dancing ,some tourist´s and they where loving it :) me to i have to admit .
nex weekend looks pretty good ,relly cold and no coulds and the aurora forecast looks good as well so i hope i can go out and find the queen .

The reach stacker trucks at Hams Hall busy themselves with the work in hand as 09004 carrying its pre-TOPS number of D3668 draws a rake of empty flats forward for loading.
Page was the place to be this Sunday morning as the Kansas City Southern console 2 dispatcher made good use of the 12,363 ft siding here at MP 354.3 on KCS' Shreveport Sub. After the 2CKCSH04 loaded coal train pulled in to the siding the MSHKC05 we'd followed up from Mena took right off.
Right on his tail was another northbound in the form of empty coal train 2CTXKC05 with an impressive seven units on the head end led by KCSM 4095 a 2007 vintage EMD SD70ACE. They would pause here while the load departed up the mountain, waiting to meet two more southbounds in the form of a CP oil train and a local, but more on those soon.
Here first is a nice sequence of three images as they pull south and pause just off the Haw Creek Road crossing on a hot humid late summer day in the Ouachita Mountains.

Maryland Midland's UBEG heads eastbound approaching Union Bridge, Maryland with stone loads for Finksburg. After Finksburg they would continue to the CSX interchange in Emory Grove to pick up cement cars dropped by the L136 earlier in the day.
Leading the train are the fairly new SD50s brought in to replace the SD40M-2s, which are on "the EPA list" for scrap. Only one SD40M-2 (3449) remains in service on the MMID, the 3450 blew a traction motor and was canned and should end up getting scrapped. These SD50s definitely aren't terrible, but can also be an eyesore to most people.

The Iowa Traction is running around Mason City on a very cold day. The crew has just grabbed 20 empties from the CP and is now heading for the AGP plant to get them switched. The crew just got done delivering 4 loads to the UP to my right. The catch and grab game goes on with 2 crews and trolleys to push and pull their way thru the day to spot customers.
The buffer stop is still in place where the railroad siding ends at Kellers Feed Mill in Newport, Kentucky. The huge mill with its wood and steel siding is very out of place. A reminder of the era when train tracks wove throughout the business district. This building would qualify as a museum setting.
