Just another in the long parade of coal trains east to tidewater begins it's journey from Bluefield. Shortly they will traverse the Virginian into Roanoke and then on to tidewater for load out into an ocean going vessel.

A is for Apple seems like such a cliche but apples are a big part of our family history and heritage. I had some photos from October 2009 when quite a few family members were able to come to the farm on the same weekend to help pick the crop. (I loved the Sue Grafton books but there is no mystery involved with my page today!) I started with a template, changed up quite a few things and made the apple embellishment at the bottom of the page from one of my photos.
Prompt: Recycle
I used photos that had been printed out as a test and I could not bring myself to throw them away in March 2008.
The paper scraps have been used from one piece of paper that I started using on the first day of class. I have a smidgen of paper left and it just didn't fit on this layout!
I used the last few rub-ons from a Basic Grey set.

Spring 1982 at Camp Douglas, WI. An eastbound MILW coal load for Portage went on the ground and things got sideways after the derailed car hit the crossing with the CNW.
Volvo Olympian S679 AAE in Wellington on route 22 to Tiverton. Compared to some of BoS's other Olympians, this one is still in a relatively good condition.

I had to take this photo with my phone, so the colors didn't really come out, but the cardstock is a pretty pale yellow, not that muddy grey color!

[The background story]
I love white space. I love using white as a background for my pages. But sometimes, a pop of color is in order.

"My gallery-style wall in the living room is still in the works. The wall behind it is canton purple. "It'll be too bold" they said. "It'll be too dark" they said. At least it isn't your everyday-run of the mill, museum quality white. I love it. May 1. 2013"

The light is fading at Chinnor as some bags of unwanted materials are loaded on to a Lowmac wagon that has an Atlas crane mounted on it. John instructs Jim in the use of the remote crontrol, while Steve waits for the manoeuvre to finish. Hard-hatless Nick keeps well clear. Shunter Stephen watches proceeding from the 03.

Inspiration : Jealousy/Envy
Journaling reads:
"People often think that jealousy is a bad thing, but I tend to disagree. Every single day I find boatloads of inspiration in the digital world - Pinterest & Facebook, designer blogs & Instagram. I'm not jealous of the beautiful works of art - but I'm willing to admit that I am indeed jealous of the people who get to be creative FOR A LIVING. The product designers & the sample makers, the brains behind the brilliance & the hands that bring products to life. I'm jealous of these people, but also SO INSPIRED by them. Who says I can't do what they do? I'm working on ideas & refocusing my energy on things that make me happy - on art & creating. I'm getting to the point where I'm realizing the only bad choices I make are the ones involving not trying & being afraid to fail. If I fail, it means I tried & more likely than not, I'll learn a few things along the way. I've had a lot of thoughts & dreams & I'm determined to put them into action. I'm taking my [happy] jealousy of full time creative people & using it to inspire me, to motivate me. I have a feeling that when I get started - there will be no backing down ... & I can't wait. May 18 . 2013"

had forgotten about it. So
when I got it I worked on it
every day till Christmas. I
gave it to my daughter. Now

The bulldozer takes a load of new asphalt to a waiting semi truck. I'm glad the road isn't entirely blocked off - yet!
These are Walthers HO scale Loading Platform kits that I modified, detailed and weathered. Not the easiest or very fun kits to build but they turned out OK.
Another load of timber going out of the harbour, not sure about deforestation of the Amazon, certainly seems to apply to the highlands, replanting? White windmills instead.

Day Ten
I find that I use a lot of color in my pages and books, even colors that years ago I would have strayed away from. However, I don't often use a lot of pink...so I picked that. I also use a ton of neutrals, so I opted for black since it complimented the photo.

"I met these four rockstars and in the past three years they have changed my LIFE! I was lucky to see them everyday-the provide so much laughter, shared in my tears, helped reign in my pigeon-ness and even supported me through an intervention. They are so talented, so creative and I'm so THANKFUL for them-for their friendship, their big sister-ness, their mom-isms and so much more. Love! 10-11 :)"
*Side note...the "intervention" mentioned was nothing serious. It was more of a running joke than anything. Just so people aren't concerned...everything is fine. :)*
