The light orb in the middle seems to be pregnant. ;-)
This picture has been taken in a single exposure. No pixels have been added or removed. That's even true for the dead / stuck / defective pixels of my old 300D.
Some images I shot for my Photography 2 class.
The assignment was to shoot a series for Foam Magazine (in theory), and to give our own interpretations on "Our City Life".
Since I am studying abroad in East London right now, I am in a completely different situation as compared to my home (mountains, smaller towns/cities), I chose to explore ideas of alienation and blending in, as well as concepts of the individual amongst the masses.
Once again, I incorporated my now signature prop, Orson the glow-orb, as a symbol of an individual/me. The ambient lights/city lights are representations of the population/masses. Although Orson and the city lights are all essentially the same - lights, and we as humanity are all just people, there is an undeniable distinction when placed in a larger scope. Individuals make up the mass population, yet can be alienated and feel other or simply blend in, devoid of an identity.
I believe I'll shoot/edit some more images and include them into this series in the future...
P.S. This is my first official series of images I've shot on my new baby that I've waited for 2 years - Canon 5D Mark II! Needless to say, I am in love and feel limitless when shooting now! :) I also wan't to thank my new good friend/flatmate, Lily for being my assistant and guide when shooting that night! :)
Last shot of a long and extremely enjoyable 5hr session wandering around Tynemouth in the middle of the night. I tweaked the colour back to a normal white balance during RAW conversion but the weird orange at the top and white at the bottom lighting is as seen, not post-prodded.
The orb in the sunken garden reveals another orb within.
Not Photoshopped, just a long orb exposure.

I took this picture on 17/4/2012 in Goa, India. It is one of 280 on the day at 5 different locations. Whilst processing it today (30/5/12) I noticed an orb of light on the ceiling. Is this an artifact of light? Does anybody have any experience of these phenomena? I am secular so have no axe to grind. Out of thousands of images taken in churches and old buildings I have never seen this before.
Test shot straight out of the camera. It's nice to have a one of these torches again. I was very sad when the old one got broken.
Just south of Castlerigg looking north. LED Lenser P7 with gel for orb, and without for stone painting. Backlit by The Moon and a bit of light pollution. Straight off the RAW file, no photoshopping other than a bit of noise reduction and white balance tweaking.
Their doing some work to the sea defences on the beach... They seem to be on of my favourite places at the minute.
This is the last one from the best night I have spent with my camera under the beautiful clear skies and high bright full moon.
Sneaked into the cully on my way home from work, got soaked going in as the water was higher than usual.
Wasted my last bit of wool firing it out sideways at the wall :)
I was planning on doing some wool spinnng, but left it after the dibble came shinning there torches around to see what was going on.
I have still some orb pictures left from last year. Some of them are not so bad. So here is one of these shots. Maybe some more will follow every now and then.
Don't like the name yet. Any better ideas?
Tried filling in the gaps by using cathode to fill the space twixt orb and spin, but didn't really use enough wool to make it work. Had to pull the brightness right during RAW conversion.
We have been trying out different lights lately to see what kind of light orb we can make. It has been FUN Now we need to go find a better location to shoot some.
Just messing around testing some light orb ideas. I've had some new ideas come to mind after seeing this. I'll be trying them out over the next couple of nights in preparation for the coming weekend.
This got to #141 in Explore
Taken during a photography meetup organised by LPMG ("Light orbs and light rails").
Interesting, I think. Did a little zoomburst too for extra effect. It almost looks like an alien is beaming down!!
The technique is very simple once somebody shows you how and is a lot of fun, we were shooting at the South Bank and lots of people were stopping to watch us :) We used LED fairy lights
I'd love to hear your comments, it's the first time I've done this kind of thing.
Yupp. Lorde inspired me to wear a lampshade on my head and prance around in the woods. I was writing a paper for school while listening to Lorde and I heard her say the lyric that is my title. I thought of the abandoned lampshade upstairs in my parents room and instantly got the inspiration to do something like this. I did not get too many shots because the mosquitos were horrendous and I kept thinking I heard the coyote. But I hope to eventually expand on this with various people!
