I went out in a massive thunder storm to take my first ever photos of lightning. I ended up chasing the storm for a couple of hours, stopping, setting up, taking shots.... It was exhilarating!
Single lightning bolt part of an active storm moving up the Texas Gulf Coast. Lights on the horizon are from some of the ships waiting for morning to enter Aransas Pass and Corpus Christi Bay. Nikon D-810 with Nikon ED AF-S Nikkor 28-300 lens.

Rural Coles County, Illinois looking towards the twilight sky post-sunset of an intensifying multicell cluster of storms that I watched for nearly 3 hours. Sunset was amazing, then the moon came out. It is currently in its waxing crescent phase, which I personally love its shape as it adds a touch of magic to the night sky. Although, the lightning from these storms just made a perfect little story to tell.

Last week visit to Singapore after long time and must say Singapore didn't disappointed. Except tropical storm late night and was lucky to capture few lightning bolts . Enjoy, Mario.
went to redhead beach for a swim in the heat wave and hoping for a sunset off the beach. Not long after we got there a storm rolled in and last a couple of hours. Was exciting thats for sure.

Not often does one get to see storms roll in with the heavens clear above. Monsoon season in Arizona is my favorite time of year. I get to go out and take photos of lightning. I get the opportunity to capture nature at its most electrifying point. Only miles from my home in Prescott Valley, AZ, I can drive to near complete darkness, and see the Milky Way. This particular photo was captured at an ISO of 12,800 over 30 seconds at 28 mm and f/4.0 using a D750. I fall in love with this camera the more I use it.
The Illinois prairie gets lit up by cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning discharges for over 2.5 hours, as seen from east of Gays along IL Route 16.
It is very common for storms to fire up in these humid and hot afternoons and evenings here in central Illinois.
When they form, they have a lot of thermal energy they get to work with, and often times results in electric skies that light up the night.
To me, this is what summer is all about. It is officially lightning season :-)

Probably the luckiest shot I've ever taken - and with my phone. Storm rolling down the Rappahannock River near Dunnsville, VA.
This is where we stopped and tried to capture the NEOWISE comet, as well as get some lightning shots from the storms to the north and to the east. Don't let the photo fool you, most of the time it was VERY dark, except for the occasional flash of lightning or the flicker of lightning bugs.
Just another collage I've put together from bits and pieces I've found on the net. As you can guess I'm a bit of a Supernatural fan, with a particular interest in particular Dean.

A stunning supercell storm over the vast plains of Colorado, this storm produced thousands of lightning bolts and several funnel clouds with powerful straight-line winds, dramatic to watch and difficult to photograph at times. Colorado, USA.
