Mother nature may impress you in more ways than one. This lightning somehow draws the silhouette of a ballerina, don´t you think?
La naturaleza siempre impresiona. Este rayo en particular parece dibujar a una bailarina
Lightning captured from the window of my apartment when I was staying in Rio. Camera was finely balanced on a window ledge; nearly dropped it when a huge thunderclap went off very near!

Reupload of about 5 minutes ago because on the other one I dodged the eyes waaaaaaaaay too much. So I just decided to let them be. So no photoshop on the eyes. :)
I was lucky enough to captured, two lightning bolts. in the distance. I was on the ready and was quick to capture them! Sadly it's the sharpness images, but this was the best I could do.
Tough choice between staying in France or going to Spain for the August 15 storms. The drier, storm-favorable air and more visible lightning strikes in Spain finally convinced me to go there.
Our first stop was above Pamplona, where we saw some beautiful cumulus congestus forming in the glow of the sunset. We had to make a decision: either stay here or intercept the emerging cells to the south of Pamplona. The 2nd option seems the most judicious... We set off towards Olite, where the beautiful scenery should help us to cope with the storm, but we had no idea that when we reached the town of Taffala a police roadblock would block us for around 30 mins, forcing us to let the storm pass further east.
We arrive in Olite, and big drops start to fall, and big flashes of light indicate that a thunderstorm is exploding above us! We quickly find a spot to the west of the village, and watch the storm as it heads northeast. The image here is a composite of 2 images of lightning striking behind a line of wind turbines.

I designed a Lightning Bolt foundation paper piecing pattern - six triangles meet at the centre to form a hexagon "Lightning Storm" block :)

Here is Battleforce Athena's Lightning Bolt ground attack and fighter aircraft. It's a radically updated take on the A-10 Thunderbolt II, with faceted armor made of EM-absorptive materials to reduce EM cross section; advanced avionics, battlefield signal tracking, and target acquisition; and turreted dual autocannons replacing the A-10's single rotary cannon.
Evening thunderstorm over the Gulf of Mexico from Mustang Island, Texas. Lights on the horizon are ships waiting to enter Aransas Pass and various oil platforms out in the Gulf. Nikon D-7000 with Tokina AT-X Pro SD 11-16mm lens.
Llega una de trabajar y puede fotografiar aún estas cosas de la naturaleza... Se nota que ya era por la mañana y no es tan espectacular como de noche, pero aun así, ahí va el relámpago

It was a dark and stormy night. . . .an unusually brilliant lightning storm strikes over downtown Seattle and the waterfront
Spent a while up at the Skypark atop Singapore's Pinnacle housing development. This thunderstorm produced a great deal of noise and hung around for over an hour, but only released two or three visible bolts.

Out in southern New Jersey for a series of cells that moved through in the evening and during the overnight.
Blackburn Youth Zone, part of the OnSide Network of Youth Zones, gives young people 'somewhere to go, something to do, someone to talk to' 365 days a year. Check out their website www.blackburnyz.org
I took this as I was walking passed this morning - I work for OnSide Youth Zones - and the 'lightning bolt' reflection caught my eye. Interestingly the Youth Zone is built on the site of the first electricity generating plant in Blackburn!
During the latter half of May 2016, I made my first, and definitely not last, trip to Austin, TX. What an amazing city. Great people, and of course, great music! The other great thing was the weather. One night during my trip, a round of strong to severe thunderstorms moved through the city during the overnight hours. From my room, I watched the line of storms march east. Once the storm line arrived, the sky lit up with lightning bolts.
Then.....BOOM. Two bolts of lightning danced across the skies over downtown, Night turned into day. The sound echoed and bounced off the skyscrapers. An epic moment.
This was the first real midwestern thunderstorm I've ever experienced. Granted, it was incredibly tame, but what an experience it was!

We almost never get lightning storms around here. The climatological conditions just don't come together the way they need to in order to form a powerful electrical storm. But every now and then - about every two years - a storm with thunder and lightning blows in from the Pacific and gives us a nice little show. This one happened last August and it was particularly great because the storm stayed right off shore, which allowed me to stay bone dry while photographing the unfolding drama.
On a humorous note, this bolt of lightning striking the fog layer over the ocean reminds a lot of the "Screw these 6 fish in particular" meme.
On a serious note, the recent photo page design change has definitely made my experience on Flickr less fulfilling, so I found a way of restoring the old photo page design without having to switch my Flickr language setting. Details here: www.elmofoto.com/Hacks/FlickrHackr
It's been an incredibly long week, so I'm particularly looking forward to this coming weekend! Happy Friday to all!
