Today I was lucky enough to catch some lightning over New York Harbor. This was shot from Windsor Terrace (South Park Slope), Brooklyn looking across the Harbor at New Jersey. The skyline just right of center is Jersey City.
I am in an area of Brooklyn where I often see approaching storms and I have taken advantage of this by shooting many time-lapse films. Most are more dramatic clouds rolling over 5th Avenue in Brooklyn. I usually sit and listen to the occasional click of the shutter… and then watch the lightning that occurs in the gap between exposures. It’s frustrating, but then I knew I had a day like this coming where I would catch some. You can view several of my time-lapses on my Vimeo page.

Very rare lightning storm in San Francisco. Set up my X700 with a 35mm lens and pointed it out of the back door to avoid the rain, so excuse the poor composition.
A friend said the lightning looked like someone throwing a spear. To me, it looks like a golfer.
A lightning Rorschach test!

Lightning strikes. Shot in Bangkok, Thailand. All captures are real and achieved by using a combination of CDHK and MD7 motion detection script.
A work in progress on Lightning, main protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII, and one of the most anticipated customs. I don't have much talent with decals so I am working with what I have available to me which is MMCB's cloth accessories which I modify to fit the character. Clearly she isn't finished yet but not bad for a start. I didn't want to show her until I had rest of the party finished but I just couldn't wait and wanted to give you guys a sneak peek of whats coming from me very soon (and by soon I mean very soon cuz the rest of the party is nearly complete).
See www.lightnings.org.uk for infomation on the group who keep these wonderful aircraft in top top condition!
Watching the end of the storm roll through as Miriam and I were coming home from dinner. We thought we would set up and try to cach some of the lightning.

Taken 6/27/2009 in central Illinois. This was my first session attempting lightning photography. It was the ideal night for photographing lighting, because it was off in the distance and it hadn't started raining yet.
This image was drastically over-exposed, and I nearly deleted it from the camera. I used Lightroom to recover the highlights, drop the exposure by two full stops, bump the contrast, increase the black clipping, and darken the dark tones.
Camera: Canon 350D
Lens: 24-104 @ 28mm
Exposure: 10 seconds at ISO400 and f/4.
Lightning in thunder bumper that formed in the late evening. It's mainly just cloud to cloud lightning.
exact same set up, both pictures 30 second exposures, 30 seconds apart, at 2:30 in the morning.
The first picture is just 30 seconds at night, nothing happening. the second picture is another 30 second exposure with a lightning flash occurring during it.
no photoshop or alterations on anything except putting them together.
