If something is at eye level, it is positioned at approximately the same height as your eyes.

"Eye Level" is a 1972 single by the Simon Park Orchestra. It was produced originally for the De Wolfe Music Library and selected by Thames Television to be the theme tune for their Netherlands-based detective series Van der Valk.

The tune became popular with audiences and Columbia Gramophone Company issued it as a single (catalogue number DB 8946) with the theme to Granada Television's drama series Crown Court, entitled "Distant Hills", on the B-side. The record entered the UK chart for just two weeks in late 1972. Almost a year later, the record was re-issued and in September 1973 it became a hit, with four weeks at No.1 and a further 20 weeks in the top 50. Total sales were 1,005,500, gaining the award of a platinum disc and becoming one of the 12 best-selling singles of the 1970s.

Burrow Mump, another Levels landmark. Taken from Aller Drove.

The north end of Dennison Beach ends in a series of rock platforms called 'The Porches' that exhibit all manner of marine weathering.

The rock varies from shale to mudstone with many inclusions and odd deposits. There are a couple of coal (or lignite) seams along with petrified wood and other fossils.

Here, a fissure has been exploited by the sea to eat away at the island.

Next couple of posts will explore some of the interesting rockpools of the Porches.

I posted a drone pic of the same train at this location a couple of weeks ago, this is the conventional ground level view. Hauled by CSR022/024, SCT Logistics service 7PG1 from Perth in Western Australia to Parkes in New South Wales on 24 April 2023. A year ago this area had been the scene of a serious washaway that closed the transcontinental rail line for over three weeks.

Got the urge today to experiment with some HDR photography again. This is a 7 shot exposure (at .7 increments), hand-held.

Black Grouse getting in a flap on the Denbigh Moors earlier this month. As impressive as they are, they're comical to watch - especially when 15+ cocks give it their best to impress the fairer sex :)

Today is Nard's birthday! And so to celebrate, he, Jo and I ventured across the bridge to Quebec to enjoy some Thai food.

Afterwards, we all convened over at their place for presents and homemade ice cream cake! Jo did a great job with the cake, it was super tasty and I think we all agreed that it was a winner!

As an added bonus, with our powers combined (but mostly Nard), we fixed the focus issues with my camera! Hurray! Life can finally return to normal as we close the chapter on my most recent electronic malfunctions!

Hope everyone has had a good day!

For the first time, astronomers have measured and mapped polarized X-rays from the remains of an exploded star, using NASA’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE). The findings, which come from observations of a stellar remnant called Cassiopeia A, shed new light on the nature of young supernova remnants, which accelerate particles close to the speed of light.

Launched on Dec. 9, 2021, IXPE, a collaboration between NASA and the Italian Space Agency, is the first satellite that can measure the polarization of X-ray light with this level of sensitivity and clarity.

All forms of light – from radio waves to gamma rays – can be polarized. Unlike the polarized sunglasses we use to cut the glare from sunlight bouncing off a wet road or windshield, IXPE’s detectors maps the tracks of incoming X-ray light. Scientists can use these individual track records to figure out the polarization, which tells the story of what the X-rays went through.

Cassiopeia A (Cas A for short) was the first object IXPE observed after it began collecting data. One of the reasons Cas A was selected is that its shock waves – like a sonic boom generated by a jet – are some of the fastest in the Milky Way. The shock waves were generated by the supernova explosion that destroyed a massive star after it collapsed. Light from the blast swept past Earth more than three hundred years ago.

This composite image shows the Cas A supernova remnant, a structure resulting from the explosion of a star in the Cassiopeia constellation. The blues represent data from the Chandra Observatory, the turquoise is from NASA's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (called IXPE), and the gold is courtesy of the Hubble Telescope.

Crazy Tuesday - On the Top

the recently refurbished high level bridge over the river tyne was the setting for this shot.it ran well over the original timescale for upgrading the bridge, probably about 18-24 months to complete.at least it looks alot sturdier now and has a new coat or two of paint.the bridge itself is quite unique in these parts as it has road and pedestrian access through its centre and a rail link on top.

Driving through the hills of the Gaspe is a thrill to say the least. The steep grades on the roads make you feel like you are riding a roller coaster. But on this trip, we drove along the shoreline around the hills of Gaspe. It was just as exhilarating driving close to the water and being dwarfed by the hills as we drove by. This scene shows the mountain range we had driven completely around at "see" level.
