Blick aufs Dorf

A Monarch caterpillar has decided to attach itself to our rose bush while waiting for metamorphosis to occur. Its been such a mild winter so far that we are still seeing Monarchs laying their eggs on our swan plants.

Our nephew and his 5 year old son watching the steam engine at Parkend Station on the Dean Forest Railway. The engine had to cross the level crossing, change over to another track and return to the other end of our train to take us back to where we started. A pointless but enjoyable morning riding on the steam railway!

Hello there, welcome back to another Cyberpunk build. As you may know now, I’m became to more diverse person in terms of themes, so be ready to see some non-Star Wars content. This build took me about three weeks to complete and due to Corona, I’ve now got more time. This build takes place in the future in which where criminals roams around freely with no one to stop them. This build was inspired a bit by [Intense Potato] with his colorings. The two pods were also taken inspiration from a building in Japan called the Nakagin tower.

On the last shots I uploaded, I mentioned that aerial shots taken with a kite have a tendency to flatten out the terrain. To show you exactly what I meant, I've uploaded these three shots taken of the same scene from ground level. The Argo hasn't moved in any of them.

Just look at that beautiful cloudless blue sky! There was no polarizing filter ... or any other kind ... on the lens. That was the actual color! The blue is so intense, you might not even notice the kite that is visible in two of these shots. :-)

I know some people don't like winter and snow, but I think everyone would agree that in pristine surroundings such as this ... on a day like this one was ... winter (well, yes, I know it's actually springtime) is as beautiful as any other season of the year.

Strolling by the lake. Random thoughts. Finally it made sense ...

"2.5 Seconds" climate change awareness series

.

As humans continue to pour greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, oceans have tempered the effect. The world's seas have absorbed more than 90 percent of the heat from these gases, but it’s taking a toll on our oceans: 2018 set a new record for ocean heating.

Rising seas is one of those climate change effects. Average sea levels have risen over 8 inches (about 23 cm) since 1880, with about a third of that gained in the last 25 years.

Sea level rise is caused primarily by two factors related to global warming: the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers and the expansion of seawater as it warms.

When sea levels rise as rapidly as they have been, even a small increase can have devastating effects on coastal habitats, it can cause destructive erosion, flooding, soil contamination with salt, and lost habitat for fish, birds, and plants. Higher sea levels are cause more deadly and destructive hurricanes that move more slowly and drop more rain, contributing to more powerful storm surges that can strip away everything in their path.

Already, flooding in low-lying coastal areas is forcing people to migrate to higher ground, and millions more are vulnerable from flood risk and other climate change effects. In the United States, almost 40 percent of the population lives in relatively high population-density coastal areas, where sea level plays a role in flooding, shoreline erosion, and hazards from storms. Most predictions say the warming of the planet will continue and is likely to accelerate, causing the oceans to keep rising. It is projected to rise another 1 to 4 feet by 2100. This means hundreds of coastal cities face flooding.

Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portugese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

The fort has a colourful history, the Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage site for its unique exposition of "an urban ensemble” which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the "Ramparts of Galle", withstood the Boxing Day Tsunami which damaged part of coastal area of Galle city. It has been since restored. The Galle Fort also houses the elite Amangalla resort hotel, located near the Dutch Reformed Church. It was originally built in 1684 to house the Dutch Governor and his staff. It was then converted into a hotel and named then as the New Oriental Hotel in 1865, which catered to the European passengers traveling between Europe and Galle Port in the 19th century.
