Built in 1847, The Man Mo Temple is a picturesque tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo), both of whom were worshipped by ambitious students looking to succeed in the civil examinations of Imperial China. These involved rigorous systems aimed at finding the best administrative officials for the state.
These coil incense were "lighted" by worshipers whose names were written on a red tag hanging from the incense. It is believed lighting these incense will make one's wishes come true.

View from the level 33 bar. Here I had the most expensive beer of my life. But the view is worth the price of the beer. And at more than 30 degrees outside a cold beer tastes really good!
This place also made it onto my no-tripods-allowed list of buildings. Luckily, I had also my little gorillapod with me.
I have my own Osprey in front of my house that perches on the pole to eat fish that is caught in my lake. This Osprey is for sure tired of taking my crap from taking pic's! This Osprey decided to give me back some crap! Lol!!
At its most basic level, time is often understood as a linear progression of events, moving from the past through the present and into the future. We measure time using various units such as seconds, minutes, hours, days, and so on. This measurement of time allows us to organize our lives, plan our activities, and make sense of the world around us.
However, as we delve deeper into the nature of time, we encounter intriguing questions and challenges. One of the key questions is whether time is an objective reality or merely a subjective experience. Is time an inherent property of the universe, or is it a construct of human consciousness?

'Afloat' is a huge 250cm diameter circular donut shaped globe cast in bronze. Situated at the seaward end of the Groyne on the seafront, near to Brighton's Palace Pier, its centre at eye level allows a view of our world through the sculpture.
The donut or torus (a shape that has a continuous surface with a hole in it) has been posed as a possible model by scientists of how our universe may look. The sculpture was generated by taking a world globe and pressing the south and north poles together to form a torus. Now placed on its side the lines of longitude radiate from the central hole, linking the sea and sky. Across its surface are the shrunken shapes of the major continents, adrift like dark shadows.
This much photographed sculpture has also become a meeting point and has even been the site of marriage proposals.

If the bubble is at the Half Way Point then the surface is Level.
I inherited this spirit level from my father. I can't remember when he didn't have it so it must be 50+ years old & still works well :-)
Half Way Point for Macro Mondays.
Some people have asked how I got the ground level angle on some of these shots: i am shooting with a 12-24mm wide angle lens virtually assuring i will fill the frame if i am close enough without having to look through the camera (the D1x does not have a viewing screen). I just put the camera down on the pavement or hold it at arms length which also has the benefit of drawing the dogs attention to the lens....because most were shot at the 12 mm setting I am generally within two feet of the dog/people.
& I continue to get many questions about the post processing effect I use (overuse) at times: it is a photoshop plug in filter from www.lucisart.com originally developed for hard science and criminology applications. The algorithms manipulate saturation, contrast, sharpness, brightness to maximize detail. you can go to their website and mess around to see the effect with your own images. Try the 'Wyeth" algorithm....the thing is you have to toss it back into photoshop and take down the brightness, sometimes boost contrast and then dodge and burn to make the image to look 'right'...i tend to use the filter on web posted images, rarely or conservatively on prints....just like vividness and detail when it comes to low res posts....have fun
Just a Class 769 at Heath High Level, but I liked the sky and the almost monochrome nature of the winter light. 769452 departs with 2P45 11:27 Rhymney to Penarth.
