Warmup exercise done for Lifebook 2014 -- Heart to Heart Theme. I'm rather new to working with paints and didn't have many colours. I tried mixing colours and result was not was I envisioned. It was a great learning opportunity, though.
I haven't used watercolour pencils as much, so I didn't feel as confident. But it was good to see the effect of applying more or less pressure in different areas
I had another go at the The St. George Byzantine Catholic church. Found a photo online with strong shadows. This shows the first lines, done in watercolor pencil - the pencil worked very well!
I didn't realise quite how challenging the angles were until I started drawing these boxes and the ends of the two boxes on the far right were definitely the trickiest bit. I also realised that quite a lot of the vertical lines in the photo are not actually vertical so this was a good way of really starting to notice the complexities of the composition. #lesson1 #lesson1boxes
I was really out of my comfort zone for this drawing, as I struggled with the discipline of attempting to be accurate. I prefer being fast and loose, and even using a lot of restatement, I struggled with making it accurate. I even fell off the page!
As an architect it is sometimes difficult to stop drawing in axonometric. Often my perspectives start going through way. Something to work on.
Sorry, I put my intro on Blackbard insead of this. Pardon my confusion.
My name is Lyndsey White, and I am currently a senior at Geneva College. I’m taking this class partly for elective credit for school, and partly because I simply find photography interesting and would like to get better at it, especially portraits, abstracts and macro photography. Only recently after obtaining a digital camera have I really been able to experiment very much with it myself, now that paying for film and prints is no longer necessary. As far as a favorite photographer, I love Steve McCurry’s portraits, but don’t know about too many other photographers to choose from. I’ve never taken any photography classes or seminars, and I don’t know what to expect, but it sounds a very interesting class, and I’m looking forward to it.
Without the help of sketching volumes first with a pencil, I felt a bit lost. But I decided I would not go home before finishing the exercises. After a while I started to feel more at ease. I like that the church looks really solid after adding the shadow. And that I used more pigment then usually. #sketchingnowbuildings
I tried some layering here. The original is warmer than what I can see from this view. Used a limited palette of Albrecht Durer pencils: Light Ochre, Alizarin Crimson, and Delft Blue. Drew this on Strathmore 300 series, 140 lb WC paper, 6"X9".
Light Ochre pencil on all of the picture, then wet it with a brush. After it dried, added the Alizarin Crimson areas and wet them. When the AC was dry, put in the Delft Blue.
Lastly, is dry pencil work alone.
