Another familiar/unfamiliar journey. My Mother was a painter so this has always been "her territory" however the names of the colours are so familiar. She used to paint on the kitchen table and dip her brush in the tea! We had lots of laughs and she talked about what she was doing but I never really held a brush loaded with paint. This exercise was quite an adventure overall.

-- Snapt Ge, Bhai ?! --, door Akka Mahadevi.
Bhai, ge zult wel zijn gekomen
verleid door mijn gewelfde borsten,
gij, wellustig jochie !!

English version:
Brother, you’ve come
drawn by the beauty
of these billowing breasts,
this brimming youth.
I’m no woman, brother, no whore.
Every time you’ve looked at me,
Who have you taken me for?
All men other than Chennamallikarjuna
Are faces to be shunned, see brother.

Basic Palette colour chart, I found this a bit daunting to get started but loved the process once I had started!
Once you have clicked the All Sizes button you will get a new window with a larger size image. There will be a choice of sizes displayed across the top. Whenever you choose the "Original" size, you will see the image at it's largest size. Some are quite large in my stream, so that you can see some of the details. Thisshould help you with your work too.
Look what time and layers can do to bring focus from chaos. Mostly white acrylic ink washes, Copic markers and graphite pencil. (Oh, and a yellow watercolor wash over the green petals.)
In particular, I was intrigued with the colour mixing part of this page. I haven't memorised any favourite mixing recipes but will record more of them for convenience. It's always been a bit hit 'n' miss.
Lesson 1 Painterly Monotypes: Masking. Final: Print 3a1 web Other media added - pastels, watercolor,graphite,charcoal
I am enjoying Jane LaFazio's sketching and watercolor class by Joggles. I like that we paint from real life.
I find it really heard to stay focused & get in the groove for constructing volumes. I just get really bored and don't get that "in the moment" feeling that I like so much when I'm drawing. So I rush and make mistakes.
I fell off the page again! I made the same mistake with constructing volumes on the boxes.

Colors of my water color paint box.
I tried to show dark (D) and light (H) version of each color and mix. Instead of same colors on the diagonal I mixed each color with yellow (ZG).
I have a lot of blues, but they produce all different greens. Some colors are less opaque than others.
I like colors I don't need to mix.
I chose these shoes because they were the only ones I had that had two colors. I don't really undertand what we are doing here. Should all the pink surfaces be shown as the same hue, or is one side different from the other?
#lesson1 monuments
I am trying so many new things here, picture has suffered a bit, I am struggling but I hope I'm on the right track, am confused about using lines or not, maybe my basic knowledge of painting is too basic
Due to the weather forecast I actually did this sketch first of the four. I might have done a better job of reducing plane lines if I had done it after the shoes...but maybe not. I found the myriad of colour tones outside quite distracting and I was happy just to get it completed. I think this task has reminded me that comprehension of a principle doesn't automatically result in correct execution of said principle. But it's a start!
While the light wasn't great it was my only chance to sketch this monument, the city's cenotaph which I've stood on for several remembrance day parades. I forgot my watercolours but did have w/c pencils and Markers with me. Layout always takes a bit for
This is a gorgeous church with bits of it dating back to the 1490s. You can't see any of this view from the road, so although I only live 20 mins walk away and have driven past it many times, I never saw this beautiful part of it till I started trying to find a good church for this course (main requirement was it should be very quiet and private as I'm very self-conscious about drawing in public!) All the angles made it very difficult to draw but I'm very pleased that I actually made myself go out and draw it at all.

English version:
I am pale with longing for my beloved;
People believe I am ill.
Seizing on every possible pretext,
I try to meet him ‘by accident.’
They have sent for a country doctor,
He grabs my arm and prods it;
How can he diagnose my pain?
It’s in my heart that I am afflicted.
Go home, country doctor,
Don’t address me by my name;
It’s the name of God that has wounded me,
Don’t force your medicines on me.
The sweetness of his lips is a pot of nectar,
That’s the only curd for which I crave;
Mira’s Lord is Giridhar Naagar.
He will feed me nectar again and again.

Plane changes.
War Memorial. I think I should have chosen a simpler statue. I was really comfortable drawing the plane changes, but then in the next exercise doing the colour changes I found it a lot more challenging.

Caritas is marking ten years of mitigating the suffering in the Darfur region of Sudan despite the enormous difficulties of working there. It has maintained the same high level of commitment to the victims of violence during this time and remained constant, true and at their side in Darfur.
The violence which struck Darfur in the early 2000s, changed the way farmers and herders lived together. Bloody conflicts broke out over routes and grazing, which continue to this day.
Caritas works in partnership with the ACT alliance of church-based aid agencies in a unique ecumenical initiative. Caritas members provide emergency relief, clean water, healthcare and nutrition. Altogether more than one million people have benefitted. More and more responsibility and management roles have been successfully given to local organisations, following a substantial investment in capacity building.
Caritas uses radio programmes and football tournaments to build peace and provides bicycles for shuttle diplomacy. It opens free veterinary clinics and water points to remove flashpoints. Different groups of people interact and become friends during skills training programmes, which also help to get them jobs.
