The assignment was to show how a neuron works. The student chose to make a model that actually transmits an electrical signal.

Congratulations to all of the Summer Learning prize winners at the Wylam Branch Library!

Here she is... all done. This is the 2nd face I've painted since taking Paulette Insall's "All About Faces" class.

Because it's 'black on black' I added some neat texture to her hair with heavy gel medium. It worked great. You can see it in more detail here:

Learning English through Kindness

For the second time in February, volunteers gathered at Emerson Point Preserve in Palmetto, FL. Together they worked to "Give a Day" and "Get a Disney Day." 36 volunteers participated in the program, helping to remove exotic invasive sansevieria plant (mother-in-law's tongue) from the conservation property.

Since January 1, 2010, Manatee County's Natural Resources Department has hosted a total of 7 "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" volunteer workdays. More are planned for March, so please check the Disney website if you would like to participate. We also have regular volunteer opportunities and a dynamic team of helpers who help support and care for the preserves. Join our team today! For more information, please contact melissa.nell@mymanatee.org

I was shooting the gorilla when I heard my boy talking behind me, I turned around to see him asking the keeper about what she was doing

She was planting food in different hiding spots around the cage so the ocelot could search it out

"cool" said the boy :)

I bought myself a drone! I've been shooting a lot of closeups of birds and flowers for awhile and wanted to start photographing from the opposite perspective -- pulling back and seeing the forrest for the trees. Seeing the big picture from a point of view that a lot of people don't ever get to experience.

My friend Brandon who teaches a drone training course at the tech school in Green Bay stopped over to help me get it set up and gave me a few flying lessons. The drone is compact, smooth, fun, and easy to fly! This is a huge game changer and another great tool in my bag of tricks as a photographer.

Missed the shot but loved the colour!

I have already learned in the first couple of hours of using the 50mm 1.4 that your focus and trigger finger better be dead on or your gonna miss the shot!
