Governor Kay Ivey gave remarks and participated in the groundbreaking for The Challenger Learning Center of Northeast Alabama in Rainbow City, Tuesday September 17, 2024 in Rainbow City, Ala. The Challenger Center Program, a leading worldwide nonprofit science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education organization, and the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama (CFNEA) officially partnered in 2024 to establish, for the first time, a Challenger Learning Center in the state of Alabama. Students are taking advantage of the various study, research and hang-out spots available in the new Jack & Mary DeWitt Learning Commons. The $14 million facility officially opened for student use on Aug. 20 and houses the college’s library, peer tutoring and writing centers, audiovisual department and new coffee shop, Common Grounds. The facility was dedicated on Sept. 27.
