Natural Henna artist September Reed visits the Avondale Regional Branch Library's teen summer learning program to share information on the history of henna, the process of creating paste, and the resulting stains. Each participant practices drawing their design and applying (lotion) henna—(there is no white henna!) Everyone received a practice tube of white lotion and a tube of brown henna to take home and apply.

As Amandalynn and Dirty Bandits illustrate the beautiful nature of New Zealand’s Fairy Tern and Chatham Island Taiko, the hope is to enhance an appreciation of these endangered creatures. Combined with the text reading ‘You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone’ repeated over and over again, this piece acts as a reminder to treat nature with care. “No amount of regret later can bring these birds back once they’re gone.”

Preservice teachers at Washington State University Vancouver are able to get top-notch in-class instruction. We recently visited two different classes taught by Dr. Shameem Rakha, one Classroom Management (TL 310), the other Diversity in Schools and Society (TL 330). It was quite evident that WSU Vancouver, as well as our faculty, are adding to our students' desire to teach by helping them build capacity to be agents of change.
