Terrace of Learning

Designed by Maki & Associates

Inspired by the cloisters and courtyards of southern Spain, Morocco and Egypt, this quiet space extends the library into the outdoors. The terrace is tiled in a range of decorative marble in a geometric design. The long flowerbed is planted with scented, flowering, evergreen herbs.

Aga Khan Centre - Islamic Gardens at King's Cross

Aga Khan Centre (AKC) in King's Cross has six Islamic Gardens showcasing the diversity of Muslim cultures while celebrating classic Islamic garden design. They form part of a conceptual ribbon pathway of Islamic-inspired gardens in this area. There are two more at Victoria Hall and two in the public realm; Lewis Cubitt Square and Jellicoe Gardens. The AKC gardens range from contemplative courtyards inspired by Andalusia and loggias inspired by the Middle East, to rooftop spaces inspired by South and Central Asia. The centre is home to the Aga Khan Foundation UK, Aga Khan University - Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, and The Institute of Ismaili Studies - all founded by His Highness the Aga Khan.

As part of the school extra-curriculum activities, Phin Ngan primary school students get to learn embroidery from a Dzao ethnic craftswoman. Oxfam's project supports such activities to get children feel more engaged with the school life. Training young students about traditional craft also helps to preserve the rich ethnic cultures.

Tot Time: Asteroids and Dinosaurs at the Avondale Regional Branch Library is an exciting day of dinosaur discovery! Children learn how an asteroid may have been the cause of the dinosaur extinction, count how many of them can fit inside the jaws of a T-Rex, explode volcanoes, excavate fossils, make imprint fossils, try to free dinosaurs from quicksand, and more!

I began learning long ago that those who are happiest are those who do the most for others. - Booker T. Washington

we love these pens as they really do do what they say on the tin, wash out of clothes and wash off a child with just water. Eleanor can't decide if she's left or right handed so finds one in each best.
