Does anyone out there know what this disease is called?
It seems to strike maple trees around here every year.
Another false leaf katydid, i think its amazing how many varieties of katydids there are in the tropics. Earlier I posted a false leaf katydid that resembled a healthy leaf and then I posted one that looked like a dead leaf and here is one from the middle ground. Resembling an unhealthy yellowing leaf. Really cool camouflage.
I am guessing 1920s on this one. Someone took a great deal of time to cut out a matt to do the exposure with and then cut the photo out.

Vanilla-leaf, also known as "deer foot" and "sweet after death", is a native plant that grows on the shady forest floor. Its flower is a tall spike with tiny white blossoms. When dry the leaves smell like vanilla, hence the alternate name "sweet after death".
