Holly (Ilex) grows quite readily in Victoria. The hedge around the perimeter of the Albian Manor where we stayed was holly and 7 feet tall.

what wonderful design these have, beautiful shaped leaves and they all grew a teeny leaf on top.

The edge of the leaf blade is called the leaf margin. Intramarginal veins occur just inside the leaf margin and run parallel to the margin. They can sometimes be very obvious but you usually have to look quite closely to see them.

With some leaves, it’s the fine structure I like. With this one however, the subtle colour gradient is just as nice.

I am a photographic trailblazer - no one has ever taken a photo like this before, ever. ;D

I was hoping you'd be able to see the background a bit in this photo, but Flickr's white background does a pretty good job of blocking it out. It looks better in slideshow mode.

Anyway...

This photo is dedicated to my first donor, the amazing GustavoG who, between creating wonderful graphical representations of the Flickr community, took the time to make a donation toward my camera repair fund. Thanks, Gustavo! :)

The baby leaf is still curling.

I was walking a trail I had never used in the Monmouth County Park System when I stopped to look around. I happened to watch as the white undersided leaf fell and came to rest on the broad green leaf. How quickly time moves on.

We use use these leaves when we got stung by stinging nettles when we were young so they were call dock leaves by rubbing them on the spot where we were stung, a simple image but the back light makes it interesting, very little processing was done pretty much strait out of camera.
