Not much color left, but found this leaf on the forest floor just begging to have a portrait session~!
Happened to notice this leaf caught on a narrow tree trunk when I went for a walk in Fish Creek Park, on 26 August 2013. Glad of the tiny patch of bright orange lichen growing near it.
It's another brutally cold day today, just like yesterday. I have a birding walk with friends, so yet another day of bundling up with endless layers of clothing and having to scrape the ice off my car windows. Stay warm, everyone!

A leaf drying slowly out, in some old, hippie way.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds :-)
these pictures are to show the structure of leaves
These where created by placing the leaves under a enlarger and I project light for about 6 to 10 seconds. After they were exposed I placed them through the developer and run it under the water,
This is the result.
in this one I added colour to give it more life.
The shore of our campsite at Indian Lake was populated by Quaking Aspen trees. Several exhibited silvery leaves which on closer examination were covered in distinctive sinous markings.
These markings are created as the leaf is devoured from the inside by larval feeding by an insect called the Aspen Leaf Miner (Phyllocnistis populiella).
The adult moth lays a single egg on the edge of new aspen leaves. When the larva hatches, it bores into the leaf and feeds its mesophyll layer. The larva forms a serpentine mine as it feeds over a 2 week period.
