It was ten o'clock in the morning. We were about to visit Sénanque Abbey, one of the 12th century Cistercian gems in Provence.
Leaving the wonderful village of Gordes in the Luberon, we hurried to arrive at to the opening of the abbey, as we heard that it's very crowded, with a lot of waiting, and that it's hard to park there if you arrive too late in the morning.
Besides, the light would be better for great photos.
And now, below at the bottom of the valley as usual with Cistercian abbeys, we could have a first glimpse of the abbey.

A lovely stroll amongst a sea of lavender. Always wanted to casually wander through a field like this in RL but never wanted to damage the crop for fear of breaking these beautiful plants. This was a gorgeous time as I thought so much about it I could almost smell the lavernder at home...oh hang on I am wearing lavender....lol smh Nadi honestly....at times I wonder....

A shot taken in a lavender field swarming with bees and mesmerising scent for this rainy Monday morning. Hope your week ahead is a lovely one friends!
The apse of the Sénanque abbey in the Luberon is particularly beautiful.
Let us recall that the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque was founded on the 9th of the calends of July 1148 (23rd June), by Cistercian monks who came from the monastory of Mazan in Ardèche. Notre-Dame de Sénanque is thus the fourth Cistercian abbey founded in Provence, after Le Thoronet, Aiguebelle and Silvacane. It was completed in 1220, after a construction of about sixty years.
After its climax in the 13th and 14th century, the abbey will decline until the Revolution when it was sold as national property. Nowadays, since 1969, the abbey has been occupied by Cistercian monks who still follow the rule of Saint Benedict.
To find out more, you can go and dawdle on the following site: www.senanque.fr/en/history-of-the-abbey/

The sun has got his hat on Hip-hip-hip hooray
The sun has got his hat on
And he's coming out today
Now we'll all be happy
Hip-hip-hip hooray
The sun has got his hat on
And he's coming out today
From The Sun Has Got His Hat On by Ralph Butler and Noel Gay for the 1932 musical Me And My Gal.
The first verse as above is often sung by children as a nursery rhyme (www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTZcADVbTuc ) but the original words of the second verse have been changed. Words that were considered socially acceptable in the 1930s, but are totally offensive today were replaced in later versions of the musical such as the award winning 1985 production with revised script by Stephen Fry.

We visited the lavender fields near Valensole and on the way stopped by this lavender field on the left. It's near Allemagne-en-Provence. We parked the car and walked down this track to see if we could find a lavender field which was pristine so I could take some photos but unfortunately we had no luck. What they don't tell you in the magazines is that the majority of lavender fields have weeds/grasses amongst them which kinda spoils it for a good photo. To the right is an olive grove and on the horizon to the left just beyond the lavender field is an almond grove. It was incredibly hot so we didn't hang around for too long before rushing back to the air conditioned car. I was amazed by the amount of insects flying around and the huge amount of bees taking full advantage of the lavender field.
I've shown Luminar 4 as one of my tags but just in case anyone is wondering, that is my own sky, not a 'replacement' sky! :-)

There are very few sunflower crops in the Valensole area. Coming from Southwest of France, where growing sunflower is very common, I wonder why it is present but unfrequent in Valensole. Could it be that they are grown mostly for the beauty of the contrast with lavender? Just to please tourists and photographers...
Hello friends! I just got back from vacationing at my island stone cottage. I've got a bunch of photos in my camera and some major catching up with you all to do. I'm doing my best and hope to get around to posting other shots soon.
Happy weekend friends; make it fabulous!

Noticed this old and rusty cart in the middle of a lavender field. Must have been part of the field for awhile...

I found myself thinking of Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard."
The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,
The plowman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

Spent a lovely time in the fields of lavender with my group of photographers, having fun!
We took along a canvas of a photo of mine from last year, with the easel all we needed was one of the ladies to pose along side ... 'bingo' and we have the photo of what we call The unfinished painting
A Taoist story tells of a tree that produces a peach of immortality every three thousand years, and anyone who eats the fruit receives immortality. Shou Lao, the god of longevity carries a wooden staff and the peach of immortality. Legend has it that he has the power to fix the date of every person’s death!
