I know this town like I built it, I know which roads will lead to where / And I'll stay & visit as long as these roads know how to take me somewhere / Of the places I've been I've kept many in mind, but I've dreamed them all the same / Of the ones I've dreamed, there's only one place that gave me my name / I'm a woman of many stories, if you'll listen I'll tell you one / I've called many places my home little darlin', but I only come from one (Courtney Marie Andrews)

This is so cliche, I know. I just felt it necessary to have my own. There will probably be more to come, who knows! This is just today.

I know you're in there and you can make me wait
But I'm not gonna wait
It's the least that I can do, just to tell you face to face
I WAS LYING TO MYSELF , NOW I'M DYING IN THIS HELL
Girl I know you're mad, I can't blame you for being mad
But baby here I am
I know it's a long way from summer, but lately it has been really warm here in Texas. I feel like we didn't even have a winter. If this keeps up, we will have a scorcher this summer :). Have a great Friday and weekend ahead dear friends.

Completely candid.
I know you can use some of the older lenses will work on the new digital bodies. ( also use Canon and have older lenses for it but it doesn't quite perform like the Pentax does.) I use both brand of my cameras about equal. If I were going to do people I would take the canon.
“Know thyself deathless and able to know all things, all arts, sciences, the way of every life. Become higher than the highest height and lower than the lowest depth. Amass in thyself all senses of animals, fire, water, dryness and moistness. Think of thyself in all places at the same time, earth, sea, sky, not yet born, in the womb, young, old, dead, and in the after death state.”

I know this may not really fit with the theme of this series, but perhaps we can think of the series as ending yesterday.
As many of you know I love pointing the camera straight down. So much interest and beauty can lie right below. In this shot it is not so much about the ice at the edge of the pond, but is more about the objects that are encased by the ice.
It is certainly busy, but for me that is half of the beauty of the image; a collection of natural elements waiting to be discovered by close inspection. Likely two clicks to the best details.
Also know as the Western Veil Nebula or for the upper portion, "the witches broom". This is a "work in progress" with only 1 hour and 52 minutes of exposure. More typical exposure lengths for this image would be ~ 4 hours (or more)
You wouldn’t know it visiting Midway Geyser Basin today. Consisting of two large pools, Midway’s main attraction is undoubtedly Grand Prismatic Spring. But Excelsior Geyser or rather, its crater is the first feature you pass on the boardwalk. A steaming body of teal water running off into the Firehole River, Excelsior has been like this for most of its recorded history. For a time though, it was the largest geyser in the world
Some of its eruptions were estimated at 300 feet tall, 300 feet wide. Just imagine: a football-length sheet of water bursting from the ground, rising the length of a football field!. And imagine the sound it must have made when it hit ground again! This was the case for fortunate visitors in Yellowstone National Park between 1878 and 1890. Hot springs are the most common hydrothermal features in Yellowstone. Their plumbing has no constrictions.
Superheated water cools as it reaches the surface, sinks, and is replaced by hotter water from below.
This circulation prevents water from reaching the temperature needed to set off an eruption. The Excelsior Geyser pool discharges 4,000 to 4,500 gallons (15,100–17,000 L) of 199 °F (93 °C) water per minute directly into the Firehole River. It is believed that the powerful eruptions damaged its internal plumbing system, and it now boils as a productive hot spring most of the time. In 1985, Excelsior returned to activity for a 46-hour period from September 14 to 16. These eruptions were relatively small at 30 feet (9.1 m) but a few were as much as 80 feet (24 m) tall and 100 feet wide. All of these eruptions lasted about 2 minutes at intervals of 5 to 66 minutes.
Between 2004 and 2006, Excelsior did have violent boiling strong enough to be considered as eruptions. This boiling reached between 5 to 10 feet (1.5 to 3.0 m) and had a duration of seconds.

for FGR (almost faces) and Theme of the week: songs in a diptych
Todays Random Fact:
1.) i met the man who wrote this song.
2. (unrelated) last night i was watching Family Matters on Nick at Nite as i was falling asleep, and they had a flash-forward 15 years... to the year 2009. god*amn do i feel old.
So I know you probably saw this picture on Garett's flickr page, but this is actually a photo I took lol. I told you all I have been doing stuff behind the scenes, and this is part of that stuff.
Compared to my V1 Sd.Kfz 10, this thing is incredibly sturdy. I really enjoyed being able to make a V2 while having my V1 right there next to me to compare to. It was something I'd never really done before. I usually just modify the original until I am satisfied. Since I have both I will be able to take some comparison shots early next week.
Also, Happy Easter everyone!
what I know
Dedicated to an old love.
I hope you know,
when I look at you, I see
a beautiful human being.
In my mind, my heart, I will always hold you tenderly.
But you knew long before I accepted it
that you and I would never be
us.
I wish you knew,
the person that I am today.
I think the transformation is astounding.
Wisdom’s sweetness is is woven into me.
You only knew me when I was scared.
A person broken by her life.
How could I have loved and hated you so much?
You will never know how well
I have begun again.
Finding joy in each moment;
each breath that is inhaled by choice,
flowers blooming in my garden,
the explosive laughter of my children.
We will never share the tender touch of husband and wife.
You will never know me.
Two things we will never share.
Do you know my gratitude;
for the life God has given me?
I am choosing to move on.
We shared at its best laughter, spontaneity and fun.
We shared at our worst, each other’s pain which often we were the cause.
Two broken people at a certain place in time.
Now I see that WE don't make our plans.
We take each day, step by step.
And see what life has for us.
My life, is many steps far away from you.
And that is what life had for me,
and you.
by Melody Hanson, 2004
I know the male of the species is the primary objective for photographers, but the female is especially, if subtly, beautiful. There are two aspects of the female’s plumage that are distinctive and really lovely: the two black lines descending from the bottom of its bill, which frame a soft white patch; and the yellow back collar.
The Evening Grosbeak’s bill is really different, changing colour seasonally. It lightens in the fall-to-winter period, and then becomes greener toward spring. It never really loses the greenish tint, which I think is among its most distinctive features.
As the bird’s French name indicates, the Evening Grosbeak does not follow a true migratory path from year to year, but ‘wanders’ to find available cone crops. It was originally found in the foothills of the Rockies, and has since spread east and south. Scientists have used modern tracking techniques to get a clearer sense of their travels, but ‘wandering’ remains an accurate description in times of climate change.
That wandering has of necessity intensified, as its other main food source, spruce budworm larvae, has been targeted by pesticide spraying programs that have all but eradicated the pest.
The arrival of a flock of Evening Grosbeaks is always a test of one’s reflexes, as they squabble over perches and push for food. This bird touched down very briefly, low and close, and I was as ready as I can be. The background is cluttered by the weedy shrubs and young trees that are another visit’s perches, so I never mind them.
Can't hid the hell I live in every day
You say its just a phase, I'll be okay
What you can't feel, must not be real…
I wear my heart here on my sleeve
But you can't see, no one sees…
This is killing me
I can barely breathe
No one knows what is inside of me
Too late to fit in, don't you dare pretend, You know what it's like, to watch the world outside
While you're buried alive…

You know, photography and Photoshop are pretty cool. What other hobby lets you throw lemons around your living room in the name of art? What other hobby has you covering yourself in cold tea, or pretending to be an arsonist, or shrinking yourself down to fight an epic David vs Goliath battle with yourself? (Oops, spoiler alert).
I can't draw for crap. Can't really paint, as you saw a few days ago. Without Photoshop and my camera, I'd just have these weird ideas in my head that would never see the light of day. I'm grateful for you, Photoshop (and camera, I love you too).
***Photoshop did not pay me to write this message. But they should***
I know you can visit this falls during other seasons, but since you need to wade through chest-high water to reach it? I'll stick with summer, thanks.

I know that this will not be to everyone's taste but I love taking detail shots when I'm looking up at the mountains that surround me when shooting (in this case) waterfalls.
The beauty of Snowdonia is never ending and although I did re-visit locations and shots (which I will always do), I found so many more new comps last week.
You know the streets, you know the junction. Pullman Jct is long past its prime, but still sees quite a bit of traffic in most directions. This 68N sand train has recently seen a new crew step on board and is on his way towards the former NYC Water Level Route.
Most of the map knowledgable folks would note that trains coming off the former Illinois Central, bound for the east coast via NS should have a straight shot eastbound over Pullman towards Rock Island Jct/CP 509. Most trains though seem to make the turn south towards Calumet Yard and the former NKP instead of using the old Chicago Short Line track, I assume to keep most of the miles on home rails. The NKP routing though involves these moves using the IHB between Osborn and CP 502 though, so maybe my theory holds no weight.
Wind the clock back a handful of decades and this would be the junction between the CWI, NKP, Rock Island and BRC. A CREATE project is in the works currently to streamline the NS thru here a bit more and give them a second main track towards Calumet Yard. Progress progress progress...
Those who know, know.
Amsterdam, 2019.
Muiden Castle (Dutch: Muiderslot) is a castle in the Netherlands, located at the mouth of the Vecht river, some 15 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam, in Muiden, where it flows into what used to be the Zuiderzee. It is one of the better known castles in the Netherlands and featured in many television shows set in the Middle Ages.
The history of Muiden Castle begins with Count Floris V who built a stone castle at the mouth of the river in 1280, when he gained command over an area that used to be part of the Sea of Utrecht. The Vecht river was the trade route to Utrecht, one of the most important trade towns of that age. The castle was used to enforce a toll on the traders. It is a relatively small castle, measuring 32 by 35 metres with brick walls well over 1.5 metres thick. A large moat surrounded the castle.
In 1296, Gerard van Velsen conspired together with Herman van Woerden, Gijsbrecht IV of Amstel, and several others to kidnap Floris V. The count was eventually imprisoned in Muiden Castle. After Floris V attempted to escape, Gerard personally killed the count on the 27th of June 1296 by stabbing him 20 times. The alleged cause of the conflict between the nobles was the rape of Gerard van Velsen's wife by Floris.
In 1297, the castle was conquered by Willem van Mechelen, the Archbishop of Utrecht, and by the year 1300 the castle was demolished.
In the Fourteenth century (ca. 1370-1386) the castle was rebuilt on the same spot based on the same plan, by Albert I, Duke of Bavaria, who at that time was also the Count of Holland and Zeeland.
You all know by now that one of my passions is photography and when the temperatures drop, the weather gets nasty, I get bored or I am just not compelled, I like to bring the photography indoors. This usually involves Snickers or some other vulnerable creature.
The Snicks is usually a willing participant in all of this but this day he just wasn't in the modeling mood. He had birds to watch and that Christmas tree that was just too much of a temptation. But anyway, here are some of the New Years series fails that I tried to revive. Snicks really didn't mind the attention BTW.
Steve and I are going hiking today so Snicks gets a day off!
All I know about music is that not many people ever really hear it. And even then, on the rare occasions when something opens within, and the music enters, what we mainly hear, or hear corroborated, are personal, private, vanishing evocations. But the man who creates the music is hearing something else, is dealing with the roar rising from the void and imposing order on it as it hits the air. What is evoked in him, then, is of another order, more terrible because it has no words, and triumphant, too, for that same reason. And his triumph, when he triumphs, is ours.
James Baldwin (1924 - 1987)
It's pointless trying to talk with Fynn when he is focused on a task. Linus should really know that in the meantime .... :)
The weather is still grey and rainy here but there is hope that it will get slighty better later this week. I really need better weather for my mood and because I'm seriously running out of photo ops. The cats are bored as they can't go out much. The boys only had about 20 minutes in the garden with me this morning before it started to rain again.
I know a lot of detail is lost in this but I like it....I don't know what it is about it that I like, I just know I like it.

I know, I know, too much Kylo. I'm done with him too. I thought everything on the last version was too flat and bulky, so to keep things from being too centered on him, I deleted the last pic and made a new one. Enjoy!

Goodness knows how many years this ancient winch has been on the quayside at Charlestown's outer harbour, but it has certainly hauled in its last cargo.
Charlestown, which is near St Austell, grew out of a small fishing village called West Polmear (also West Porthmear). It was developed in the Georgian era (specifically from 1790 when work on building the outer quay began to 1799 when the first dock gates were erected) as a new town, and named after local landowner Charles Rashleigh who had a hand in its design. The works were to the plans of England's first recognised civil engineer, John Smeaton. It was built to facilitate the transport of copper from nearby mines but its main function became the export of china clay from the region's quarries.
I know it looks like a snowflake, and in real composition it is practically the same, but this is actually frost growing on the windshield of my truck right through the Rain-X.
You all know Bruce Weber, the famous American fashion photographer! But this is not Bruce Weber - this is "Lord Vader". Lord Vader is a casual reader of the German Vogue. And yes, in cat-universe, they read upside down.
Two days ago Vader was contemplating a photo in the latest Vogue-issue. And this fantastic photo was shot by Bruce Weber for Louis Vuitton. Lord Vader likes it, I like it - hope you like it, too :)
Wish you a very nice weekend!

I don't know why I didn't take more photographs from this spot as it truly is lovely. This is from the access road down to the small boat harbor at the mouth of Ship Creek. An Anchorage yard crew has pulled out of the depot down through CP1140 and then will reverse back up the yard lead to head to the shop to switch out and put away their train. Rising beyond are offices on 3rd and L Streets with Resolution Park and the statue of Captain Cook directly above the rear unit. The tall building beyond houses assorted law and government offices and the first floor is home to Simon and Seaforts, one of the city's finest and most popular restaurants.
This little consist of ex F40 P32 and GP40-2 3011 (built new Apr. 1976 and delivered in black and gold and rebuilt with a 300Kw HEP and painted in 2000) bracketing a 56 seat and a 78 seat coach was what was being used for the Alaska State Fair Trains this year.

Popping out of his hole, this Chipmunk surveys the area to make sure the coast is clear. I'm pretty sure that little nose of his plays a big part when he's checking things out.
On a side note - I'm glad to see this little fellow because I was thinking this hole had been abandoned and needed to be filled in - especially since I stepped in it the other day and took a big and not so graceful fall. 😵
