Who knows where they were going, but examining this image that the Squadron of two birds looked like they were looking out after those feeding in the water. Good story, but not likely true.

I don't know if anyone ever reads my descriptions, but I write them anyway, so there!!
Was out today (August 20th 2021) on a forced vacation day, from 9:30AM til' almost 4PM. 80F today but it felt like 100F. This is a very active line and I probably flicked 20 freights today. 750+ flicks. By the time I get rid of a few duplicates, and bad ones, I'm guessing it'll be about 700 +/-. 700 to straighten, fix any color issues, upload, and also ID the writers. It's lots of time and as you can imagine, it's a lot of work, but so far it's been fun. I'm trying to not rush myself to post before I'm ready. I already have the flicks, and they're timeless. So getting them posted ASAP!!!!!! is not really my concern. Duh..
Had an interesting interaction with a guy while out there. Guy with backpack had walked back and forth across the tracks a few times. The lat time I saw him he was on the other side of a set, about 100 yards away. Next thing you know he's coming closer..... Closer..... And I'm like WTF? I'm way out here minding my own business. He walks within' like 10 ft. of me and I say "How ya' doin'?" he says something, and then says "Trains?" and I say "Yep." and he says "Oh.." and walks away. I think he was feelin' me out, as there's a small population of people who's homes are shall I say, mobile. I've talked to a few of them, and have never had a bad interaction, I just don't like people walkin' up on me when I'm trying to get away from the rest of the world out by the tracks. I go out there to get away from people, not to interact.

I follow some other amazing photographers on flickr, but for this I will talk about the ones who flick the freights. There are a few that I really love. Some it's because of the great locations they shoot at, and others it's the amazing little details they manage to capture. For me (right now) I don't have the luxury of walking the lines and seeing pieces static. 99.999% of my flicks the freight is rolling by at 10-50 mph and sometimes I don't really even know what I have until I get home, dump the memory cards and go through the photos. Because of this, most of my flicks are just straight on shots and documenting what I saw and where. I saw this freight here, on this date, here's what was on it, and i captured it. Buffed or scraped next week, well I have it on "film" for future generations (sounds corny, I know). There are times when a freight will stop in-front of me, and I'll walk up and get some shots of monikers, but it's rare.
Obviously in any area there are sidings where freights park for extended periods, I know a few spots, but as I get older, and older, do I really want to leave my car parked on the side of the road and walk 2 miles to capture some little details I might normally miss? I'd love to, but it's just not practical for me at this time, any many other people do it better than I could. Retirement is getting closer every day, maybe then, when my weekdays are free. :-)

During the Covid lockdown, I was working from home, and I was getting out benching like 2 & 3 times a month. Back at work, I'm lucky to have the energy to get out once a month. Every time I do manage to get out, I come home and my batteries feel re-charged. It's been so f-ing hot here in SoCal though, I can't wait for cooler weather and some clouds in the sky.
As always, thanks to the writers!

“I may know the word, but not say it. I may know the truth, but not face it. I may hear a sound, a whisper, sacred and profound, but turn my head, indifferent. I may know the word, but not say it. I may love the fruit, but not taste it. I may know.”

I said my heart, it doesn't beat, it doesn't beat the way it used to and my eyes don't recognize you no more.
And my lips, they don't kiss, they don't kiss the way they used to, and my eyes don't recognize you no more.

I know most of these are already uploaded on Flickr, but I was so disappointed that part of Mickey's Fun Wheel wasn't lighting properly that I had to go into photoshop and add the pieces of the lights that were missing.
Anyone that knows my dad knows that it was no small miracle when he agreed to go to Yosemite with me. I was shocked. Wha??? He’ll go? With me? On a long drive? Alright! Let’s do this! Next weekend, Woohoo! That weekend happened to be Father’s Day weekend. Perfect! Or so I thought. Now anyone who goes to Yosemite more than once or twice a year probably knows that you really need to get there early as to “avoid the crowds”. But hey, we’re in no hurry, we’re just going to enjoy hanging out together. So when we arrived at the gate somewhere near the 1 o’clock hour to find 3 lanes of lined up cars, we weren’t too shocked. However, 5 minutes past the gates my son declared he must find a restroom as soon as possible. No prob, we’ll just pop into the Bridalveil Fall’s parking lot, get that done and hit Tunnel View. Oh, wait. You can’t drive in, it’s blocked with cones and cars are parked along the side of the road. Ok, we can turn around after Tunnel View. But first, we must wait in the line going through the small parking lot. By the time we get back to Bridalveil, our plan was to wave the handicap parking placard that comes with my dad at the park ranger and declare our “emergency” and get the kid some relief. Not necessary there is now parking. Front row even. Right next to the restrooms. Which has a 1/8 mile line. After all was taken care of, we head off to what is surely a safe bet…Yosemite Village! Why, we can ditch the van and use the convenient shuttle bus system! So we hop in for the 3-4 min. drive. 30 minutes later… Oh, darn, can’t turn there, the road is blocked by a…police car?? Ok, I know that the Housekeeping Camp turnoff is coming up, we’ll turn in there and just get out of the van and stretch our legs a bit. Hey, a store! Let’s check it out! After much deliberation, the three of us finally decide on which ice creams we want and head to the register. My dad asks the lady, “So, does it get much busier than this?” She gives a little snort and says, “Oh this is nothing! Just wait until 5:00 when everyone is trying to leave!” Oh dear. So, while in the parking lot enjoying our ice creams we decided the best thing to do was to just get the heck outta Dodge. Cool! We’ll just go to the lovely Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, surely no one is there. And they have amazing coffee! It’s only about 3:30, we have plenty of time! However there was some kind of force working against us once again. The road became a parking lot. The only movement was of the masses that left their vehicles to see what the holdup was. It was another hour or so before we got out of the traffic jam and were able to pull over and take some pictures. Not a great visit for his first time at Yosemite. But we all did indeed enjoy Hetch Hetchy Reservoir’s dam, tunnel and coffee! Wow. Did I write all that? Well, I had to get that out
On February 19, 2014, Phi Alpha Delta hosted a LEAD event featuring Busted, a film that depicts the pressure and confusion in police encounters. Busted illustrated the right and wrong ways to handle different police encounters and demonstrated how to courteously and confidently refuse police searches. Discussion followed.
Annette Boaz, professor in health care research,
Kingston University and St George’s, University of London announcing the award for 'most active contribution from a postdoctoral researcher'. The award went to Suzanne Bench, King’s Improvement Science, for her work on a project to ensure patients leaving critical care get the care they need.
Professor Boaz said: “Dr Bench shows a commitment to improving critical care services for service users and their families. This application demonstrates an understanding of the theory and practice of implementation and improvement. For example, Dr Bench has used a participatory co-design improvement methodology and has given examples of some of the barriers associated with implementation relating to her work. She has worked closely with a range of stakeholders to inform her work, and has sought out the support of leading improvement science experts within the CLAHRC, and more widely, in King’s College London, Kings College Hospital and NHS England. She has also submitted a paper, a grant application and fellowship applications."

know that this photo, shot freehand in the evening light, is far from perfect. I resolved to post it despite its evident flaws to show the contrast of climate from morning to dawn of one and the same day - and I don't know if tomorrow the snow will still be there ...
"Women are like teabags; you never know how strong they are until they're put in hot water"
A quote from the Falmouth university book of design.
Its stuck to my wall and I kinda love it.
We've always liked to know what you think of our drinks. That's why we ask you to call the banana phone or pop into Fruit Towers. It's good to have a chat and even better to hear what you think we should do next. So that's why last year, we went one step further and held our very own AGM (A Grown-up Meeting). It was such a brilliant day that we've decided to do it all again in 2009. You can find out more here..
Pointless I know, but Flickr is useless to me now.
Performance is poor an any machine due to the terrible Javascripts they have resizing everything in the background.
The part they needed to upgrade was the Forum. They've left that as useless with no way of tracking history and keeping track of what's important to you.
Instead they give us ugly and poor galleries.
I've not been here for months.
Now you know why.
Kids, parents, and other brain-curious residents visited the annual “Get to Know Your Brain” event Saturday, April 11, 2015.
