I know I've taken an abundance of flower pictures lately. But seriously, I love all the colors and smells of spring! I passed these on my morning walk and fell in love
I'm grateful for these raucous poppies.
You all know by now that one of my passions is photography and when the temperatures drop, the weather gets nasty, I get bored or I am just not compelled, I like to bring the photography indoors. This usually involves Snickers or some other vulnerable creature.
The Snicks is usually a willing participant in all of this but this day he just wasn't in the modeling mood. He had birds to watch and that Christmas tree that was just too much of a temptation. But anyway, here are some of the New Years series fails that I tried to revive. Snicks really didn't mind the attention BTW.
Steve and I are going hiking today so Snicks gets a day off!

The weather is still grey and rainy here but there is hope that it will get slighty better later this week. I really need better weather for my mood and because I'm seriously running out of photo ops. The cats are bored as they can't go out much. The boys only had about 20 minutes in the garden with me this morning before it started to rain again.
I know that this is being uploaded a little late, but hope that your day was filled with fun with family and friends and that you were surrounded with love, which I am sure you were and still are! Wishing you many more happy and creative challenging years my friend!!

Perhaps you know them as Painted Nettle or Poor Man’s Croton, but many of us simply know them as Coleus. They have stunningly colorful foliage in brilliant combinations of greens, yellows, pinks, reds, and maroons, and a wide variety of leaf sizes and shapes. So you can always find a perfect spot for coleus in your garden!
Coleus is one of the easiest plants to propagate. In fact, the plants root so easily that you can start cuttings in a glass of water. They can also be propagated by seed indoors 8-10 weeks before your last anticipated spring frost. They love to be wet so make sure your spot is suitable. When they are dry, they wilt and droop but are quickly revitalized by a generous watering.

Did you know that tomatoes have hairs? I didn't. Well, I suppose it's more like "fuzz" than hair, but I didn't realize it either way.
We didn't exactly have a bumper crop of tomatoes this year. I was disappointed. We had a few, though.
I know, I know, too much Kylo. I'm done with him too. I thought everything on the last version was too flat and bulky, so to keep things from being too centered on him, I deleted the last pic and made a new one. Enjoy!

Is this wrong? I know, opinions will fly in various directions, and that's ok. I just felt it needed a little something extra. This should come as no suprise since anyone familiar with my stream should know I love a lot of colour. Sometimes, the phrases "too much saturation" and "too much hue" is like "too much chocolate."
But hey, that is my style, its not for everyone. :-)
curious what people think though.
I actually played with the Hue more than the saturation, then added some fill lights with a touch contrast. I was surprised that it didn't take a whole lot to get from there to here.

You all know Bruce Weber, the famous American fashion photographer! But this is not Bruce Weber - this is "Lord Vader". Lord Vader is a casual reader of the German Vogue. And yes, in cat-universe, they read upside down.

I know I just made Homelander and just complained about how many people have made so many versions of him, but I found I do actually have a gold epaulets! Oh also I got a new torso/legs but that's probably less important.
I know I posted a somewhat similar shot a while back but I never really liked the forced crop it had. Instead this is a 6 shot pano, taken a little further away, to allow more sky and width. Plus I like the difference in tone and saturation.
This is locally know as the Pirates tower. I ran into a family that live near by and they recited a story about how the home owner that lived in the home at the the top of the tower used to dress up like a pirate and walk the streets and pubs telling people that he has hidden coins in the boards of the spiral staircase that leads to the top, for the kids in the area to find if they explored it well enough. The kids in the area spent a lot of time in that tower. :)

I know that a lot of people are not fans of selective color and feel it is a total gimmick.. so I am very thankful that you bear with me as I do tend to use it frequently.. for better or worse...:)
Sometimes it is just about a texture that just doesn't quite pop in a full color version.. other times it is about toning down a crowded image to force you to see what caught my eye..(rather arrogant of me.. if I do say so.. LOL) ... but it is what it is.. :)

I know where I will be all day tomorrow and probably Wednesday... Lady and Mr. B will have their wings full because their second batch of babies should fledge tomorrow or Wednesday. I believe this hawk thought they should come out of the house today. He flew in to oak tree number 2 and I went out to see about getting a photo before asking him to leave. However, he took off... Then was back within a minute sitting on the fence looking at the neighbors yard like he is just hanging out all innocent like. I took this shot and off he went. Within a minute he was back in oak two. I shall take my camera out with me tomorrow along with a broom to wave around at crows and hawks if they try to come in while the baby bluebirds are taking their first flight.

Chevrolet gave us the first station wagon that was “cool” in 1955. Gypsies, Hippies, Surfers and a few suburban families loved the Nomad. You may have also noticed, this one is one of those, “Sea Foam Emerald Jade Turquoise Green” cars talked about in a previous episode.
Winnebago was founded in 1958 but did not build its first motor home until 1966. That factoid is a bit hard to wrap one’s head around. The name is so closely associated with campers with engines, it seems odd to think they haven’t been around for longer. Much like “Kleenex” the name Winnebago has become the word we use for all motor homes.
If you see this combo out on the road beware, these are nomads, gypsies, hippies... They have customs that the town folk fear.

I know I have posted a photo of this dish before but it always bowls me over- so I get the same thing every time. This place is located just outside one of the back gates of Mayport Naval Station. I visit a lot of the same places every year and I'm starting to plan my day around food. If you have a restaurant rec. for a town with a Navy or Marine Corps base- please feel free to share.
I know nothing about bikes, so sadly I can't say what model this is, but it certainly seemed to be the motorcycling equivalent of Autoshite.
Bit of a mystery on its registration. I couldn't trace it through DVLA, and on Cartell it suggests that it belongs to a Cortina 2.0GLS which came off the road in 1992 when I then enter it into DVLA.
I don't know what they're teaching the new conductors down in McDonough, but the new hires for a little bit were calling signals weird, like the trainee was doing here at Sewell & other control points.
Anyways, the Annual Meeting of the East End Squatters Club (iykyk; thanks Kyle) occured here because for 2022 standards, this was a good one, especially for us east of the Mississippi. NS 153 is seen east of Bremen, GA with a pair H1 paint Dash 9's on the point. There were a number of these making their way through the southeast in the spring of 2022 after a number were brought out of storage by BNSF earlier in the year, with many going to NS to pay off horsepower-hour debts, including this paired duo. Upon hearing that the duo got put on the point of 153, this naturally caused a stir with the Atlanta & Birmingham railfans & lead to a number of them coming out on this Saturday to document their trip down the East End. 5-7-22

Most people living in the UK will have a good idea of what my home county holds for the visitor, even if they've never been here. "Hmm, Cornwall," many of them say to us when we're on our own travels. "Long way down the country to get there. Nice beaches. We went to Newquay one year," or "We like to go to Stein's in Padstow. Have you been there?" In spite of the fact that we have been in possession of an unused voucher for the place since July last year, we still haven't been there. It may be a statistical fact that half of the celebrity chefs in Britain have a restaurant somewhere within 30 miles of where I live. Personally I favour Greg and Lou's fish and chip shop in Redruth, two miles from home, or Manha Spice in Illogan. As far as I'm aware, neither of the proprietors of these establishments have held down a regular slot on prime time television, but then their prices don't involve parting with family heirlooms to pay the bill and their fare is more than good enough to please my simple palate as well. Nobody has ever mentioned Redruth or Illogan in one of those awkward moments on foreign soil when strangers attempt to engage us in conversation about where we come from. I like it that way. I should stress that I have no affiliation with either establishment and will not benefit financially or otherwise if you take this as a recommendation to visit them. Although they could do me a chip butty and a Chicken Jalfrezi if they like. Not at the same time though - I'm not entirely unrefined.
Still, one thing the wider world is right about is our coast. Surrounded by the sea on three sides and attached to the rest of England by a handful of miles in the north east corner it's stunning, whatever the season. Wild, windswept and remote it's a place that visitors have been coming to for far longer than any of us have been on the planet. Enormous sandy sweeps backed by dunes, small rocky inlets and coves, and pretty harbours filled with fishing boats draw them in their droves. Generally speaking, people know we have a coastline.
What we're less famous for is our rivers. The country isn't long, wide or flat enough to have many broad sweeping meanders plotting their way through sunlit meadows past nodding willows and sleepy villages. But some of the ones we do have are spectacular. The River Fowey (pronounced Foy - just to set you on the right foot with the locals) crashes down from the wilderness of Bodmin Moor, making its way southwards until it meets the sea at the town of the same name (also pronounced Foy). I can sit and watch it happily for hours.
And that's exactly what I did on Saturday at Golitha Falls. I was here a couple of months earlier in the same position, taking more or less the same picture. When I got home I was disappointed by the glare on the surface of the river and decided I must have forgotten to spin the polariser. Cursing myself for a schoolboy error I vowed to return, only to find that the problem persisted. I'd evidently done everything I could have the previous time, but failed to appreciate that the filter wasn't going to remove all of the glare. I guess it's something we're all just going to have to live with.
In a couple of weeks I'm going to head there again. While many of you live further north in the UK and are seeing the colours change already, the leaves are still mostly green down here in the far South West. I want them to be red, brown and gold, but it seems I need to wait a while longer. I love having a reason to need to go back.
Anyone who follows my photostream, or knows me, knows that I love Art Nouveau. It is my favourite design movement. Last year I acquired a Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) Art Nouveau calling card tray from the first decade of the Twentieth Century. It features a beautiful and sinuous woman standing over it, holding a pole in her hands, and upon the pole sits a little dove. I have photographed her for the themes of “things with wings” for “Looking Close on Friday” and “three droplets” for “Smile on Saturday” groups.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" on the 3rd of November is "silhouette in black and white". Not long after I bought my WMF Art Nouveau lady calling card tray I was playing around with lighting using an Art Deco Diana lamp, which cast my silver lady into shadow, and I quite liked the shot. I thought it would come in handy one day. So, when the theme came up, I immediately thought of this image. I hope you like my choice of the theme, and that it makes you smile.
Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) was originally called Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer and was opened as a metal repairing workshop. Through mergers and acquisitions, by 1900 they were the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau style, designed in the WMF Art Studio under Albert Mayer, sculptor and designer, who was director from 1884 to 1914. In 1880 after Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer merged with another German company, it was renamed as the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik. WMF acquired the Polish metalware factory Plewkiewicz in Warsaw in 1886, which then became a subsidiary of WMF around 1900. During this period, the WMF employed over three and a half thousand people. In 1890 they acquired the Kunstanstalt für Galvanoplastik München, which specialized in electrotyping and electroforming of statues and statuettes for buildings, fountains, tombstones, and gardens; this became the Abteilung für Galvanoplastik (Galvanoplastic Division) of WMF. In 1900, WMF acquired Albert Köhler's famous Austrian metalwork company AK & CIE, who produced and distributed WMF items under their mark to the Austro-Hungarian market until about 1914. WMF purchased Orivit AG, a company known for its Jugendstil pewter in 1905, followed a year later by the purchase of the Orion Kunstgewerbliche Metallwarenfabrik, another German metalware company. WMF continued to use the goods from the acquired companies on their own markets, and conversely, they produced and distributed their objects under their acquired companies brands. WMF still exists to this day, and produces mostly stylised cutlery.
