I took the quad bike down my track, a little, a few evenings back, and followed the burn to the confluence with another burn (hill stream). This ancient Ash (Fraxinus exselsior) stands guard between the two streams.
This is a lovely, peaceful place to sit and while away some time; only the wee birdies’ song and the burn burbling cheerfully over the rocks...and the occasional Scottish BlackFace x lamb calling to their buddies or mothers, in the air. A lovely evening!

I know it’s a very old fashioned flower, but I love lilac. Then again, I am somewhat of an old fashioned person, and certainly an old soul, so perhaps it suits me. I love lilacs for their delicate blooms, sweet scent and of course their delightful shades of purple. They are a true harbinger of spring.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 26th of May is "shades of purple", and I was immediately put in mind of the lovely lilacs I saw in some of the old fashioned cottage gardens that I sometimes see on my walks. Whilst it is autumn where I live now, I just happen to have a photograph of a beautiful lilac bearing several shades of purple in my photo archive, taken on a lovely spring stroll I took in October last year. Captured against a wonderfully clear azure sky, I thought it most suitable. I hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!
Syringa is a genus of twelve currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family or Oleaceae called lilacs. These lilacs are native to woodland and scrub from south eastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere.

I know that You all are in spring mode already, but I can't be considerate of that right now. I have still some beautiful memories of the last winter waiting to be shared. This one here is one of them. It was definitely one of the most beautiful sunrises I was allowed to witness in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains during the last years. The rock on the right side is called large goose. In the background you see the river Elbe passing by and behind it mt. Lilienstein. Moments like this are the main reason, why I am doing this and why I am loving this so much.
Ich weiss ja, dass Ihr alle schon im Frühlingsmodus seid, doch ich kann da gerade keine Rücksicht darauf nehmen. Ich habe noch immer einige wunderschöne Erinnerungen an den letzten Winter, die darauf warten geteilt zu werden. Dies hier ist eine davon. Es war definitiv einer der schönsten Sonnenaufgänge, den ich in den letzten Jahren im Elbsandsteingebirge erleben durfte. Der Fels auf der rechten Seite ist die große Gans. Im Hintergrund sieht man die Elbe vorbeifliesen und dahinter den Lilienstein. Momente wieder dieser sind der Hauptgrund, warum ich das mache und warum ich das so sehr liebe.

For all who know that frace in the titel and always wanted to know how this may look like, exactly like this. If we can visit here the dog of hell (this is the alone standing rock on the left side) this must be hell itself. It was a fantastic sunrise with relaxed minus 16 degrees and so we now also know, what temperatures are necessary for that. The name of the rock on the right side is, by the way, goose wherever this has its place in hell. This is a panoramic photograph made by five upright shots.

Wenn wir hier dem Höllenhund begegnen können (das ist der einzeln stehende Felsen auf der linken Seite), dann muß das die Hölle selbst sein. Es war ein grandioser Sonnenaufgang bei entspannten minus 16 Grad, womit wir jetzt auch wissen, welche Temperaturen dafür nötig sind. Der Felsen auf der rechten Seite heißt übrigens Gans , was auch immer die in der Hölle zu suchen hat. Dies ist ein Panorama aus fünf hochkant Fotos.

I know there is a shortage of insects, which is very worrying, but this only hit home to me after I returned from a 830 mile journey, and there was hardly an insect on the windscreen or bumper...Years ago had to stop after twenty miles to clean them off...I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to why this is happening.

I know this species is viewed as an invasive nuisance and has a reputation for usurping local bird habitat. But that being said, I still rather liked the pose, perch and the way the light caught the rich brown and charcoal coloring in his plumage.

Captured at Vandaloor, I am still wondering how I spotted this guy, he was so fast and so deceptive he moves an inch and you won't be able to spot him that easily. My camera was crying to get the focus right and my meter almost failed every other time and the exposure was my biggest challenge, but still I know this shot is worth all the troubles that we went through. Hope you all agree with me, I dedicate this shot to my friend Surendar @ Chittappa who is celebrating his birthday today, happy birthday chittappa. Thanks for all your comments and fav

I'm sure you all know the tube caps that have a star-shaped tool on the upper, "non-screwy" side which serves as opener for tubes that are sealed. This is one. A Sunday breakfast table discovery, when I opened a tube with a delicious (bread) spread inside and by chance noticed that the cap is semi-transparent (which looked nice held against the sunlight) and also round. So I thought I'd give it a try as a circular object within a square frame. And since I ran out of time, in the end this was my only circular object in a square frame ;-) Since I wanted to backlight it, I didn't shoot it from above, but up front, with blue transparent paper as background and both propped against my small LED torch (its diameter is the same as the cap's: 2,2 cm / 0,86 inches). This is a focus stack composed of 25 images rendered in Helicon Focus (Method B). Processed in Analog Efex Pro and ON1 Photo RAW (filters: HDR "Glow" and "Normal", Tone Enhancer and Dynamic Contrast, each with my own sliders tweaks).
A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!
Ihr kennt bestimmt alle diese Tubenverschlüsse, die auf der oberen Seite so ein sternförmiges "Werkzeug" zum Öffnen der Tube haben. Dies ist so ein Verschluss. Eine Zufallsentdeckung am sonntäglichen Frühstückstisch, als ich eine Tube mit einem leckeren Aufstrich öffnete und den Verschluss aus Spaß gegen das Licht hielt. Der Anblick machte neugierig, und da der Verschluss praktischerweise auch rund ist, wie es die meisten Tubenverschlüsse so an sich haben, bot sich hier eine Möglichkeit für die Quadratur des Kreises. Am Ende blieb es die einzige Möglichkeit, da ich gestern schlicht keine Zeit für mehr Fotos mit anderen runden Dingen in einem quadratischen Rahmen hatte. Um den Verschluss direkt von hinten anstrahlen zu können, habe ich ihn nicht von oben fotografiert, sondern von vorn. Als Hintergrund diente ein Blatt blaues Transparentpapier, hinter das ich meine kleine LED-Taschenlampe legte, die denselben Durchmesser hat wie der Verschluss: 2,2 cm. Das fertige Foto ist ein Fokus Stack aus 25 Bildern, zusammengefügt in Helicon Focus (Methode B) und bearbeitet in Analog Efex und ON1 Photo RAW.
