Skippy Blends In the squirrel heard me or saw me, they usually freeze until they know where your going, very cautious group, shot in North Carolina.

I know it’s a very old fashioned flower, but I love lilac. Then again, I am somewhat of an old fashioned person, and certainly an old soul, so perhaps it suits me. I love lilacs for their delicate blooms, sweet scent and of course their delightful shades of purple. They are a true harbinger of spring.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 26th of May is "shades of purple", and I was immediately put in mind of the lovely lilacs I saw in some of the old fashioned cottage gardens that I sometimes see on my walks. Whilst it is autumn where I live now, I just happen to have a photograph of a beautiful lilac bearing several shades of purple in my photo archive, taken on a lovely spring stroll I took in October last year. Captured against a wonderfully clear azure sky, I thought it most suitable. I hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Syringa is a genus of twelve currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family or Oleaceae called lilacs. These lilacs are native to woodland and scrub from south eastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere.

Yes, I know...a lot of these lately. But every year at this explosive time, I go out and take tons of photos many of which never get uploaded because I try to present my stream as a calendar/diary of the days...and as we know the days fly by rather quickly. So as we are currently enduring dramatic thunderstorms, I thought I'd offer another admittedly from a week or so ago. And yes, this processed version is a bit dark yet again (as some of you have commented of late), so I have added the SOOC version in comments which may also please the purists amongst you.

I was feeling introspective (and of course, ever the introvert) so I perched here in my garden, feeling mopey and lackluster, when this guy bounded over for the sole purpose of making me smile and letting me know that he was always there when I needed a hug or a lick! Dogs are pure joy, pure love. I know I tend to be with them in a lot of the images I create, but they make me happy, and truth be told, I know that they make a lot of us happy. I know that You all are in spring mode already, but I can't be considerate of that right now. I have still some beautiful memories of the last winter waiting to be shared. This one here is one of them. It was definitely one of the most beautiful sunrises I was allowed to witness in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains during the last years. The rock on the right side is called large goose. In the background you see the river Elbe passing by and behind it mt. Lilienstein. Moments like this are the main reason, why I am doing this and why I am loving this so much.

Ich weiss ja, dass Ihr alle schon im Frühlingsmodus seid, doch ich kann da gerade keine Rücksicht darauf nehmen. Ich habe noch immer einige wunderschöne Erinnerungen an den letzten Winter, die darauf warten geteilt zu werden. Dies hier ist eine davon. Es war definitiv einer der schönsten Sonnenaufgänge, den ich in den letzten Jahren im Elbsandsteingebirge erleben durfte. Der Fels auf der rechten Seite ist die große Gans. Im Hintergrund sieht man die Elbe vorbeifliesen und dahinter den Lilienstein. Momente wieder dieser sind der Hauptgrund, warum ich das mache und warum ich das so sehr liebe.

I know there is a shortage of insects, which is very worrying, but this only hit home to me after I returned from a 830 mile journey, and there was hardly an insect on the windscreen or bumper...Years ago had to stop after twenty miles to clean them off...I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to why this is happening.

As you know, with mirrorless cameras, getting flight shots is tough with a busy background. In the Z9 firmware update 4.0, they added a feature called Auto Capture. I tried it out yesterday. All you do is set up a tripod, enter some parameters for the shot you want, activate the program and walk away. The camera looks for any combination of settings and takes shots on its own. This one was set up for motion in a defined area of the frame. Lets say, it worked great.

You all know lupines in my garden already from the photos with the raindrops on their leafs. Off course I don't want to keep the beautiful flowers back from You. I did walk around them quite often already, trying to find a way to give them the right attention. Mostly I didn't had an idea and if I had one, I didn't like the result. Until the setting sun was helping me out a lot.

Ihr alle kennt die Lupinen in meinem Garten bereits von den Bildern mit den Regentropfen auf ihren Blättern. Natürlich möchte ich Euch auch die wunderschönen Blüten nicht vorenhalten. Schon oft bin ich um sie herum gelaufen und habe mir überlegt, wie ich sie wohl am besten in Szene setzen könnte.
