The spectacular mountains of Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops are at their best in the warm months of summer. During this time the mountains become a kaleidoscope of colour as the multitude of wildflowers blossom from the village to the alpine. Take the lift to the summit (2,152 metres) and hike through the meadows or ride down one of the 37 challenging mountain bike trails totaling over 70 kilometres in length.
People have long been attracted to Kamloops landscape and geology. The last ice age built an ice dam creating a lake that filled the Thompson Valleys and reversed the flow of the rivers. A warming trend melted the ice and drained the lake exposing white silt terraces consisting of the sediments of the former lakebed. Here wind and water have sculpted extensive gullies as well as hoodoos with their distinctive columns and cap rocks.
