McArthur Island park,

Kamloops, B.C.

I spotted this fellow while taking my almost daily walk around the island. The park is only a few minutes drive from my place and to think I only started going there about a month ago! It's a treasure of a place.

While I was walking along the promenade, the sun was setting over the mountains. It was delivering some warm light that was touching the peaks while the Thompson River was already in shade. Like a good book, the end of this chapter delivered an exciting ending with an exclamation mark.

I took this shot near Savona, a small community located at the west end of Kamloops Lake, where the Thompson River exits.

This bridge over the Thompson River in Kamloops appears to be a loop line that connects the Canadian Pacific Railway with the Canadian National Railway. I'm not sure how well it is used but the bridge looks in good shape.

Roses in Thailand are extremely rare because they don't get on with the climate. When I see them on my travels I am naturally drawn to them as a result. There were lots of lovely ones growing in Riverside Park in Kamloops

Recently we were in the city of Kamloops and noticed how very high the water was along the Thompson river. This shot illustrates just how close the high water is to the bottom of the train bridge that runs through the downtown area. Combined with the distinctive sun lit hillside and a reflecting cloud, a dynamic image results.

Kamloops is a wonderful place for a photographer. There are plenty of opportunities to create images and it is an easy place to get around. Here, Shuswap Dr curves around on the Thompson River giving a look at reflections from the clouds.

Kamloops Heritage Railway's former CN 2-8-0 #2141 departs Kamloops for a short hour and a half evening excursion. The train departs the CNR station downtown, and runs northward across the South Thompson River to North Kamloops, before retracing its steps back to town.

After spending two days in Kamloops and scoping out opportunities, it occurred to me it was a city of bridges. The Thompson River runs through the city so getting from one side to the other requires a good deal of them.

Each day can offer a very different look because fog rolls in since Kamloops lies in a valley. Often it clears out but it too offers plenty of chances for different shots. This day delivered a gorgeous blue sky and later afternoon light produced shadows giving the image added dimension

B.C. wildfires are devistating but sure make beautiful sunsets.

so far no rain (and no smoke)

Late afternoon found me down along the Thompson River in Kamloops. The colors at that time of day become more warm and intense. And, the reflections too become more extreme when the water becomes still. It is a shame that there is so little water along the Thompson. In fact, I have never seen it this low. It is unfortunate that extremes can make for great photos, while such occurrences can also cause terrible problems.

I was meeting with some friends yesterday over coffee, when I commented what a gem Kamloops has been for me as a photographer. It continues to offer opportunities as in this shot, which is just another ordinary day. One with a few clouds, mud along the Thompson River, and distant hills. It is an example of the many natural amenities this city offers, for those with a camera.

At the time of this capture, the sun was low in the sky, which of course further emphasizes texture given strong shadows. The clouds were puffy white and glancing across the sky. Natures colors mingled well offering rich browns, and deep blues. In all, just another pleasant day for someone with a camera.

A viewpoint emerges just before our destination for the day, the town of Kamloops at the far end of the lake. The last time I came this way the whole lake was frozen as it was midwinter. Today the conditions couldn't have been more different!

Along the banks of the North Thompson River

Kamloops, B.C.

Along Hwy #1 and east of Kamloops are some very interesting hills that are enticing enough for an afternoon of exploring

Apparently today we broke a 98-year-old cold weather record. When I went to go out this afternoon my trusty diesel VW steed wouldn't start and needed a boost. Although I grew up with much colder temperatures, I gotta say one of the features of living in the interior of British Columbia is supposed to be its more moderate weather -- ha!!

This evening I left my office just a few minutes early because I had looked out the window and saw the sun starting to peek under the heavy dark clouds hitting Mount Paul, Mount Peter, and Strawberry Hill. I thought it might turn into something nice to see and it did. Although I've processed it, of course, the overall effect is very much what I had the privilege to see unfold in our Thompson Rivers Valley today. This is a handheld stitch of a couple of images with the camera I had at hand.

This is very different from my usual photographical work.

The Kamloops powwow is an incredible event, full of energy and strong vibrations. It takes place yearly (I think) over a whole week-end.

The Trestle bridge in Kamloops is a subject I have photographed many times. Revisiting it presented a new challenge; to see it in a new light. This time from under the accompanying city traffic bridge to give a framed appearance.
