My first journal from Mary Ann Moore's Remains of the Day class. Very cool.

Hand-crafted mini journal with original acrylic monoprint cover. Journal measures 5 x 7, and contains blank, unlined pages.

njstacie not only gave me this beautiful blank book with the paris map cover, SHE MADE IT. i wrote a journal when i was a teenager into my 20's. and there's the blog thing. but i've gotten out of the habit of writing personal stuff.

If I'm honest, what I don't know about steampunk could fill several volumes. But I've always admired a vintage, tattered vibe so that's what I'm going for here.

I've been reading Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century novels and that's also inspiring this new journal.

About the materials

Cover: green chrome-tanned leather

Soft and supple, this leather is my favorite for Brevity Journals because its flexibility and durability. And the color.

Paper: Paper: EcoWhite Recycled Paper by Fabriano

EcoWhite is made using 100% post-consumer waste, 50% Hydro-power production, no chlorine bleach, has respect of the Kyoto Protocol and is FSC 100% Certified Recycled.

For more than seven centuries, Fabriano has been famous the world over for its production of the finest art and writing papers that embody the perfect marriage of innovation and tradition.

Papermaking at Fabriano mills began in 1283 and the remaining examples of paper that exist from this time indicate the advanced state of papermaking at the mills.

Artists and writers such as Giambattista Bodoni, Albrecht Dürer, Michelangelo, Raphael and Francisco Goya have praised Fabriano papers for their unequaled quality. Works from these artists that exist today are a testament to the enduring quality of Fabriano paper.

Endpaper: Egyptian Papyrus

Papyrus was, and continues today to be handmade from the papyrus reed that grows in freshwater marshes along the river Nile, though today this growth is rare and controlled. Egyptians considered it the "everlasting" paper because it has been found in perfect condition in tombs dating back to 2700 B.C. I love the texture!

Closure: simple wrap closure of the same leather as cover

Started a handmade journal in my vacation and it's nowhere near finished, but here are some of the pages.

I like to hid my journaling sometimes. I just take regular scrapbook paper and journal on it, then fold it up and tape it down.

Journal cover, 6.25"x8.5". Made from old book boards, Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court," 1890. The book was in poor condition and destined for the library dumpster. Covers made for Keri Smith's journal page prompts, "100 Creative Ideas."

Getting ready for some journaling...

I retired my notebook / journal today. It is only 55% full but I never fill one before another begs to be used. I am more fond of blank books than my own thoughts.

Another set of pages in my smaller art journal.

Hi there! Here's a journal page I created using the prompts from oneyearartjournal.blogspot.com

You can find more pics and a page in progress video on my blog:

Thanks for having a look!

Gosh, that was quite something, having to jiggle family + this project... I didn't think it would be THAT much work, but I only have myself to blame.

Firstly, I didn't quite have an structure on how to do it in a way that wouldn't involve too much work and secondly it wasn't a uniform sort of project: everyday I would come up with more ideas that were more time consuming than the actual construction of the page (assembling things etc.).

One thing is true, it was most enjoyable. Exercising my writing was hard, I mean, talking about my inner feelings and thoughts was really hard, but it was proven to be an excellent therapy. I felt much lighter and having a better insight of the previous day helped me to get somethings into perspective and analyse my own attitude.

On the other hand, I confess some nights I felt obliged to make a page, even if I had absolutely nothing to write, or worse no patience or energy to do it. Or the most sinful thing of them all: having 8 pages left do be done. By that stage I didn't even remember what happened. So a bit of cheating.

Anyway, I will have a go on making a video showing all pages, but for now you can have a look at the size of the monster. Funnily enough I don't even know where I'm going to keep it (>∿...
