I don't often sketch people from life, but I really want to be able to do it. So tonight I gave it a whirl. One of the subjects ran away before I had time to sketch his head, so I made it up. LOL.

A bit of watercolor seemed in order, as it always does for me.

Good fun and good practice!

Somerville Journal Building is a historic building at 8-10 Walnut Street in Somerville, Massachusetts.

It was built in 1894 as offices and the printing facility for the Somerville Journal. Administrative and editorial offices were on the first floor. Production and typesetting were on the second floor, and printing presses and equipment were located in the basement. The Somerville Journal vacated the building in approximately the 1950s. For some time after, the building was used as a youth recreation center for the City of Somerville. It has been used as artist studios since the 1970s.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Reclaimed Egyptian Journal:

There was once an old leather cushion, which wasn’t being noticed much anymore… so it met its destiny as my front and back panels. The vintage tooling is a little distressed from age but it serves its purpose as part of my rusticity.

I’m a chunky, generous serving of artisan recycled splendor. With 108 pages (216 singles) on which to write, you’ll have ample room to do so. My Eco-friendly pages are made in Italy by Fabriano, and boast to be the whitest recycled sketching paper on the planet. Hand torn & Coptic stitched with archival linen thread, I lay flat when in use for accessibility.

Measuring 6 inches high, 5 inches wide, with a spine just under 2 inches wide, I secure your creations with a triple wrap black leather tie which wraps safely around a patterned brass button.

This is a page from my journal, providing a convenient summary of my trip. I decided that I would drive up to Whitefish Point to see Lake Superior, the only Great Lake that I haven't seen. It was totally worth it, but took 19 hours total, and 700 miles of driving.

In order to circumvent the complete and total idiocy of the flickr desktop uploader, I decided to just UL everything in date order, but I was foiled again. It faulted on a couple photos, and so I had to delete pics and reupload to get them back into the proper order. I didn't even try to get the panoramas in order, but you can see just how completely stupid and useless it was to try to order my pics appropriately. Please see the set, where the pictures will be organized appropriately.

I just noticed that they've updated the uploader recently. Hopefully they've fixed this completely stupid fault.

lots of "I's" in my journals.... I feel, I guess, I suppose, I think, I believe, and - the winner! used more than any other phrase - I don't know!!!

A copy of the journal containing my first published paper arrived yesterday.
