vintage wallpaper, pages from an art encyclopedia (chair), music paper and a scrap of Christmas wrap cut into my new favorite embellishment. Man, are they ever addictive!
Here is my art journal before any altering.
I went to the used book store downtown last week and bought an old book (published in 1926), and I made it into an altered book – to use as my art journal… but I felt like a traitor in the bookstore – the guy saw me looking at old books and wanted to make sure I saw a bunch of rare editions of certain books… if he only knew what I was going to do to that little book “Betty Gordon in Mexican Wilds”…he’d probably cry.
there have been sooooo many gorgeous doodled flowers by tammy (& other ICAD-ers!) that i had to have a go. i also wanted to practice more with my not-namebrand-neocolors, lol! :)

I created a kite out of scrapbook paper and my fun "dates" would be a beach picnic, freeway park visit, yard sales, Salty's for dinner and disc golf with the boys. The kite string goes through the page and attaches to my pull out list of dream vacations tucked into a pocket on the other side. Quick watercolor 'scape to support my kite - quick and easy today since I have LOTS to do!
The journal is pretty much completed. I'm left with a couple of prompts that just aren't inspiring me so it's time to send it home.

This is a personalized journal that comes with 70 sheets of blank white paper. The journal has a plastic, clear slightly textured cover that protects the book and gives it a nice look and feel. Underneath the plastic cover is a heavy card stock that features the Owl Sitting in a Tree Design with your name on it. This is a very nice, sturdy note book with a heavy chipboard backing. It is put inside a cello sleeve which makes a great presentation for gift giving.
This handbound 5"w x 7"h blank journal features a gorgeous, richly-colored paper with a pattern of 1930s vegetable seed packets on the covers (tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and cabbage on the front and herbs, pole beans, cauliflower and cabbage on the back!).

Background layers of gesso, ripped up and glued in bits of magazine image which then removed like a transfer, sandpapered then gesso again. covered with acrylics and inkjet floral transfers and finally glued in image
My journal was created to replicate the game "Barrel of Monkeys".
Often when contemplating design ideas and solutions I feel as if I have a bunch of monkeys going all directions in my brain so this is a very good representation of me and my thought processes! :P
I began by sculpting the barrel on the front and back covers. Once I had them sculpted I then baked the entire book for about 20 minutes in the oven at about 250 degrees. Then I sculpted the monkey and baked him as well.
Once these had cooled I painted them. After the paint dried I sealed them with an acrylic sealer.
I was concerned about the monkey being on the front. I thought it may come off easily so I drilled a couple of holes into the cover of the journal and the back of the monkey in order to insert pegs and epoxy. This really fastened him in place and made him a permanent part of the cover.
The front and back inside cover of the journal is cork board where I can pin small notes, pictures, or ideas that i'd like to keep.
This A6 journal is made of natural soft leather, sewed on a felt for the additional density. Filled with lined paper, 384 pages counted both sides.
