keeping organized - blogged here

This is in my teeny tiny doodle journal.

Third year of our round robin swapping. This is my page for Sandy's journal. Her inspiration page had a lot of 7s on it (we are a group of 7 participating.) So I carried that through with my collage and paint spread. Lot's of Paper Artsy Fresco paints, some glitter ink (dark blue), some penwork with my platinum carbon fountain pen, and collage.

"Outré Journal" is an almanac of overlooked vintage subject matter with an emphasis on art, design, photography and culture. With an extensive array of rare images, "Outré Journal" presents a curated compendium of the unusual that takes its cues from cabinets of curiosities and journals of miscellany such as "The Saturday Book" of old.

The focus on underground topics and pop culture extends across time and continents to include highlights such as: religious architecture in the Space Age, found photos and images of masked people, Satan and sin in sixties pop culture, four-eyed figures and other bizarre collectibles, Danish modern artist-designer Knud Albert, the murals and artwork of Anton LaVey, Los Angeles beatnik hangout Café Frankenstein, Ren Clark's Tiki temple, the album cover art of Symphonie Fantastique, strange paintings and more.

Contributors include:

Boyd Rice, Charles Schneider, Brian Chidester, Nicholas Syracuse, Jean-Emmanuel Deluxe, and Martin McIntosh.

some pieces of an old journal i kept when i moved in with my best friend to get my head back together from(and during) a series of disasters. this "sacred black book" went with me everywhere to jot down every thought and instance to try to figure out everything around me. i like to pull it out every once in a while and laugh because i think it's fair to say i was pretty crazy at the time, but i also remember how important it was to figuring myself out. i almost feel a little awkward sharing it. but i also feel like it's okay now.

I love the new *calender workout journal* function which gives me a nice overview of my activities for each week! blog.quentiq.com/workout-calender-journal/

Journal entry for March 13, 2007

She is beginning to realize that something is wrong. I sat with her today for several hours, feeding her a little bit of applesauce for breakfast and some sweet potatoes and mashed-up turkey for lunch. The sweet potatoes went down well but any sip of liquid made her cough violently. She'd look at me, crying, and say "What's wrong with me?" I'd say, "You're having trouble swallowing and things are going down the wrong pipe."

We haven't talked about dying yet. I'm watching her for cues to know the right time. The hospice social worker told me that life expectancy is influenced by one's will to live. She's seen people go for several months, existing on a few spoonfuls of ice cream a day. Ginny has always had a very strong will to live but I think that is beginning to fade.

Today she hugged me and whispered, "I'm so glad you're here. I would be terrified if I were alone. We'll get through this together."

I don't know if that means she thinks she'll get better, or that we'll get through her dying together.

A camping weekend journal, using a folded book with a page a day.

My page for an art journal swap. The theme was butterflys and flowers. I drew an atlas moth...close enough to a butterfly right? :)

Went through my scraps and added them to my idea journal. Finally!

Having become somewhat disillusioned with Moleskine, I went with an alternative to start the year. It's a 4x6 leather bound book made by Gallery Leather of Bar Habor, Maine. The paper of this journal is far better than that found in Moleskine in terms of quality. The only drawback thus far is that the book does not lay flat when open.

I have this journal that my friends got me for my birthday a few years ago. I've been writing in it off and on for a while now. It's not a daily thing, I only write in it when I'm feeling really down or have a strong urge to put something down on paper. Last night was one of those nights...

Journal spill: if you had unlimited space (and funds), what would you collect?

A large portion of Journal Square is built over the train cut that is now used mostly for the PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) trains that connect Newark Penn Station to New York locations. I have reciently heard Journal Square referred to in advertising as "the Times Square" of Jersey City.

Putting to use journals that were partially filled in the past and are long overdue for more markings.
