The Gefion Fountain (Danish: Gefionspringvandet) is a large fountain on the harbour front in Copenhagen, Denmark. It features a large-scale group of animal figures being driven by the legendary Norse goddess, Gefjun. It is located in Langelinie Park next to Kastellet and is the largest monument in Copenhagen and used as a wishing well.
The fountain depicts the mythical story of the creation of the island of Zealand on which Copenhagen is located. The legend appears in Ragnarsdrápa, a 9th century Skaldic poem recorded in the 13th century Prose Edda, and in Ynglinga saga as recorded in Snorri Sturluson's 13th century Heimskringla.
According to Ynglinga saga, the Swedish king Gylfi promised Gefjun the territory she could plow in a night. She turned her four sons into oxen, and the territory they plowed out of the earth was then thrown into the sea between Sweden and the island of Fyn in Denmark. The hole became a lake called Lögrinn and Leginum (locative). Snorri identifies the lake Löginn, as the lake of Old Sigtuna west of Stockholm, i.e., Lake Mälaren, an identification that he returns to later in the Saga of Olaf the Holy.

A shot from my archives, which I somehow forgot to post. Here is the Palace Hotel in the so-called 'Old Town Dubai', and as a bonus, the world's tallest tower in the background. Thanks to my flickr buddy arfromqatar who was staying in this hotel and who made that shot possible (as usual we had some issues with the security guard).

Not one of Iceland's iconic locations but when the roads from 5km in either direction of the hotel are closed due to extreme weather and you only have 10km of road open, you have to make the best of a bad job but having driven down this glorious long road to this scene, the sun started setting so we pulled up and grabbed our cameras. Ten minutes before we were assisting a group of German tourists by removing banked up snow from under their Skoda Yeti when they tried to drive in 15" snow. It seems that Yeti's are not that good making their way through the snow after all, lol.

This photo was taken early morning in the Lage Vuursche Forest on the way from Hilversum to Soestduinen. Lage Vuursche is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Baarn, and lies about 5 km west of Soest, in the middle of the forest. Drakestein, the former residence of Queen Beatrix, is situated just east of the village. An oasis of rest directly next to the big city life.

Europe - Estonia - Harju County - Lahemaa National Park - Boulders in Käsmu at Gulf of Finland - Baltic coast - Largest field of stones in Estonia, the big Uustalu Suurekivi - Summer Moon Rise during Dusk - Twilight - Blue Hour - Night
Less than an hour's drive from Tallinn, Lahemaa National Park offers a rich and varied landscape, amazing short hikes and the unlikely prospect of meeting another person. Lahemaa is the oldest and largest national park in Estonia representing the nature and cultural heritage, typical of North Estonia. Established in 1971, covering an area of 72,500 ha. It encompasses 47,410 ha of land and 25,090 ha of sea.
Top of the Käsmu peninsula is a real paradise for landscape photographer, you can shoot sunset and sunrise or moonrise from one spot with so many boulders in very shallow sea and all that during those looong nights, only downside - sleep max 3 hours (not enough for me!)
When I planned photoshoot of this location, one of things besides scouting the place, was checking the sunset and moon rise time - it was perfect - sunset 21:50 and moon rise 22:09, the moon was rising really to the north which was perfect as well. I would not be able to capture such a scene with moon only 2 days to the last quarter if I were not so far North.

Meet Toby.
He joined our household today at 8 weeks 2 days old, and I'm completely and totally in love with the little guy.
He is curious, playful, snuggly, and still manages to look solemn and dignified - at least when he wants to.
His introduction with Henry was uneventful, and while they still working out the logistics of Big Dog / Little Dog play, they are both obviously interested in making it work.
Today, Toby learned the beginnings of "Sit" (nailed it!) "Leave It" (chewing on my hand doesn't make it open but NOT chewing on it does and you get the kibble inside) and "Down" (did I mention he did great with "Sit" and "Leave it"?)
I spent most the afternoon focusing on Sit-n-Stare, where Toby gets a piece of his kibble every time I notice him sitting in front of me and staring up and me.
He now sits in front of me and stares up at me (and Hubby) a lot!
Henry also learned this on the first day, and to this day it's his default behavior - what he does when he doesn't know what else to do.
It's a really nice default behavior - much better than jumping at my legs and the cupboard doors, which was our starting point.
Today's photoshoot was a chaotic disaster - but Toby had a fun, got his meal of kibble (a few at a time) and (occasionally) showed hints of the star I'm sure he will someday be.
Many thanks to Toby's (and Henry's and Zachary's and Beau's) wonderful breeder - Aubridge Goldens - who practiced "Hats" with the litter a few weeks ago!
Notes to self:
1. Hungry Puppies make terrible models (stupid me - I knew that!)
2. Big Dogs and Little Dogs (together) makes a challenging situation impossible
3. I need to wrangle Hubby into firing the remote for me for a few days!

As major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, being promoted to major highways outside the city, the Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and of all Russia.

Watching the sun rise or set over the sand dunes of Merzouga may be the most spectacular experience you have on your trip to Morocco. The Erg Chebbi, the name of these sand dunes, is said to have some of the highest dunes in Morocco. Indeed, the dunes and the desert wildlife are impressive.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi is a strikingly strange natural formation. On the top of the flattest area you could imagine, suddenly a long mountain of sand rises. This mountain is surrounded by flat and desolate nature on all sides, and you could end up wondering if it really is real. But so it is, even if its existence is so weird that it has given rise to lengeds and myths among the locals. One legend tells us that the dunes of Erg Chebbi were created by God as a punishment to the locals of nearby Merzouga after they refused to give shelter to a woman and her child during a local festival. A sandstorm came, and buried the village of Merzouga is it was then.
Morocco and especially Sahara desert with its very dark skies is perfect for seeing and also capturing the night sky with the glorious Milky Way. The sky in the desert is wonderfully dark with minimum light pollution, which gives a great sight, which you can also see in the :

This timelapse video offers night view at some iconic or less known locations in various parts of Morocco, might it be Sahara desert, Ksar Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO), High Atlas Mountains & Toubkal National Park or Telouet Kasbah along former caravan route from Sahara over Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.

Sveti Stefan island has a 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) coast line in the central part of Montenegro Adriatic coast line. It is situated to approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) southeast of Budva between Przno and Sveti Stefan villages. The pink sandy beaches of Sveti Stefan, Miločer Beach and Queen’s Beach are part of the coast line. The island encompasses an area of 12,400 m2 (133,000 sq ft).
In the 15th century, the island had a fortified village which was known as Divic; a Muslim village on the periphery of land on the Drina, which was renamed as Sveti Stefan, after the Christian Saint Stephen.The fortified village was built to defend against the Turks and became a haven for pirates of the Adriatic. Initially, the island with its fortress had 12 families. Later, the village came to be established in the 1800s, when the population was about 400 people. Consequent to the villages getting moved to the mainland, the island village became an exclusive resort frequented by high profile elites of the world. However, the separation of Montenegro from Yugoslavia saw the decline of this resort, in the 1990s. Villa Miločer built between 1934 and 1936 was the summer residence of Queen Marija Karadordevic (1900–1961) of the Karađorđević family of Serbia, which was refurbished as part of the Aman Sveti Stefan resorts that opened in 2008–2009.

Bruges / Brugge is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country. Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO.
Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as "The Venice of the North".

The sunflower is native to the Central Americas. The evidence thus far is that it was first domesticated in Mexico, by at least 2600 BC. Many indigenous American peoples used the sunflower as the symbol of their solar deity, including the Aztecs and the Otomi of Mexico and the Incas in South America. Francisco Pizarro was the first European to encounter the sunflower in Tahuantinsuyo, Peru. Gold images of the flower, as well as seeds, were taken back to Spain early in the 16th century. Some researchers argue that the Spaniards tried to suppress cultivation of the sunflower because of its association with solar religion and warfare.

The sky was excellent for a night photo session in which I should have photographed the Milky Way, so I headed to the Capo Murro Lighthouse.
Once I arrived, I started looking for a location viewed a few days before online. After a while, I found a wonderful arch that rose out in the blue sea.
I photographed the last rays of sun hitting the arch while waiting for the night session.

Shibam belongs to one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever seen and I'd like to returned there at some near future point (once situation settles bit more). I've captured this shot while wondering around just before sunset and I really liked how warm sun rays turned the flying sand in pure gold.

Europe - UK - United Kingdom - England - North West England - Cumbria - Lakes - Lake District National Park - Ullswater - 2nd largest lake in Lake District, cca 9 miles (14.5 kilometres) long & 0.75 miles (1,200 m) wide with a maximum depth of more than 60 metres (197 ft)
The Lake District, also known as The Lakes or Lakeland, is a rural area in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes and its mountains (or fells), and its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the Lake Poets. The central and most-visited part of the area is contained in the Lake District National Park - one of fourteen National parks in the United Kingdom. It lies entirely within Cumbria, and is one of England's few mountainous regions. All the land in England higher than three thousand feet above sea level lies within the National Park.
Lake District is by far my favorite destination in England. It is very magical place that has such a great potential for landscape photography. However as it is always with landscape photography, you need to be lucky for the weather (especially in UK) and the light. When these two are right Lake District offers great possibilities.

Taken on a recent photography tour I led back in March. This is Borve Beach, a truly stunning little section of the beach that we discovered when viewing it from the roadside. Harris has so many of these beaches that you're completely spoilt for choice.
On arriving a couple of hours before sunset, I decided to capture these wonderful rocks. The tide was incoming and creating some wonderful wave lines around this isolated rock. The colour of the sand and the water is just something else. Gorgeous aqua coloured water creates an almost tropical look and feel to the place (minus the heat obviously, ha, ha).

There are large boulders on the northeastern tip of Vana-Jüri as well.

The Roman Forum (Latin: Forum Romanum), sometimes known by its original Latin name, is located between the Palatine hill and the Capitoline hill of the city of Rome. It is the central area around which the ancient Roman civilization developed. Citizens referred to the location as the "Forum Magnum" or just the "Forum". The oldest and most important structures of the ancient city are located in the forum, including its ancient former royal residency the Regia and the surrounding complex of the Vestal virgins.
Those columns belong to the Temple of Saturn (Latin: Templum Saturni or Aedes Saturnus). It is a monument to the agricultural deity Saturn that stands at the western end of the Forum Romanum in Rome. It represents the oldest surviving structure in that area, having been established between 501 and 498 BC.
The original plan for the blue hour shoot was to walk through the Forum Romanum to the Colosseum and take photos there. Unfortunately the walk way through Forum Romanum was closed (it was opened two years ago when I've been there last time) and we would have to rush all the way around to get there in time. I have seen lights pointing at the Temple of Saturn and was hoping for some nice blue hour shot of the lit forum, however another surprise as revealed that the light has lit only on the further church. I was very disappointed at first, but looking at the shot now, I quite like the atmosphere and the result.

The Gefion Fountain (Danish: Gefionspringvandet) is a large fountain on the harbour front in Copenhagen, Denmark. It features a large-scale group of animal figures being driven by the legendary Norse goddess, Gefjun. It is located in Langelinie Park next to Kastellet and is the largest monument in Copenhagen and used as a wishing well.
The fountain depicts the mythical story of the creation of the island of Zealand on which Copenhagen is located. The legend appears in Ragnarsdrápa, a 9th century Skaldic poem recorded in the 13th century Prose Edda, and in Ynglinga saga as recorded in Snorri Sturluson's 13th century Heimskringla.
According to Ynglinga saga, the Swedish king Gylfi promised Gefjun the territory she could plow in a night. She turned her four sons into oxen, and the territory they plowed out of the earth was then thrown into the sea between Sweden and the island of Fyn in Denmark. The hole became a lake called Lögrinn and Leginum (locative). Snorri identifies the lake Löginn, as the lake of Old Sigtuna west of Stockholm, i.e., Lake Mälaren, an identification that he returns to later in the Saga of Olaf the Holy.

Europe - Croatia - Hrvatska - Dubrovnik - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Pearl of the Adriatic - Historical Mediterranean city on Adriatic Sea coast in extreme south of Croatia
The 'Pearl of the Adriatic', situated on the Dalmatian coast, became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.
It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic, a seaport and the centre of Dubrovnik-Neretva county. Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik has always been based on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, as the Republic of Ragusa, also known as a Maritime Republic (together with Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa, Venice and other Italian cities), it became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Although demilitarised in the 1970s with the intent of forever protecting it from war devastation, in 1991, after the breakup of Yugoslavia, it was besieged by Serb-Montenegrin forces for 7 months and received significant damage from being shelled.
