I am here again...another post from Wello Pt.
Not much happening in the colour department tonight. I still love how it all turned out. After hit and miss in recent days I had another crack at sunset wondering whether it would fire up or not.

Maybe the last of these for awhile, until next time of course. This refuge is my favorite place to photograph, you never know what you will find. Last year it was the Willets, next year who knows.

Europe - Estonia - Tallinn - Capital City on Shores of Baltic Sea & Gulf of Finland - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Historic Centre - One of best-preserved medieval old towns in Northern Europe - View from Toompea Hill at Dusk - Twilight - Blue Hour - Night
Super long hours of sunshine, music, massive cruise ships, festivals, grill parties and beer. That’s the short version of summer in Tallinn, but it pretty much says it all. In any case, June and July are when locals get their payback for all those dark winter nights they’ve had to put up with. In summer they leave the office early, drink until late, and spend every weekend they possibly can out in the countryside, picking berries, participating in watersports and communing with their traditional pagan gods. This is also the time of year that Tallinn sees more concerts and festivals than any other. In addition to the famous Beer Summer Festival and a lot of folk festivals and markets.

Red Square (Russian: Кра́сная пло́щадь, Krásnaya plóshchad’) is the most famous city square in Moscow, and arguably one of the most famous in the world. The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant quarter known as Kitay-gorod. As major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, being promoted to major highways outside the city, the Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and of all Russia.
After taking few more shots of the grey red square I went to have a glass of (probably most expensive ever ) gluehwein / hot red wine (you really need that in the middle of December in Moscow, especially when coming from Middle East). I must have been silently praying to gods of weather to get more drama to my photos and luckily for me, they listened to my prayers and the grey sky had slowly started to turn into amazing sunset. This is a view 1.5 hour after the previous grey shot. I could not believe my eyes when I saw how things can take different shape and color in such a short time, so the learning is – never give up and there might be a light at the end of very grey day.

Ponta da Piedade is a headland to the south of Lagos, surrounded by fascinating rock formations in crystal clear seas. The sandy coves of Praia de Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo are sheltered and tucked away between high sandstone cliffs. The crystal clear water and the rock bridges and grottoes make this a fascinating place to explore. There are steps cut into the cliffs for access
Lagos, itself an attractive town with a new marina area, also contains historical buildings worth taking a look at, and its fortifications date back to the 8th Century in places.

I spotted this coupled pair of scarlet mormons (Papilio rumanzovia), also known as the red mormon, hanging from a leaf quite high up at my local butterfly house.
Fortunately, I had the (Sigma) 180mm lens now which offers much better reach than what I can achieve with the 100mm. Thus, I extended both sections of the tripod legs as much as the could and raised the center column to the max and was able to capture these through the leaves and vines hanging from the ceiling at pretty much level height.

We joined the valley floor tour and Yosemite valley view point was our first stop. Sitting at the end of the tram, I didn’t hear where we were and I thought that view was just beyond words. It was early October and the weather was very cheerful. We left Yosemite that day and the floor tour gave us a perfect closure of our time there in Yosemite:)

Khongor Sand Dunes are the largest and most spectacular sand dunes in Mongolia. Also known as the ‘singing dunes’, they are up to 800 m high, 20 km wide and about 100 km long. Top of the dunes can be climbed and the views of the desert from the top are indescribable.
I was wondering around and enjoying the majestic views of dunes when my eyes spotted this beautiful play of shadow and light with blowing sand over the dunes and with sun shining through the flying sand.

Hagia Sophia was first named "Megale Ekklesia" (The Great Church) as it was the largest church in Constantinople (Istanbul today). The historian Socrates indicated that the church was named Sophia during the reign of Emperor Constantius. The name given to the church symbolized the second divine attribute of the Holy Trinity. Originally, Sophia, which means "Holy Wisdom", was a name given to Christ by 4th century theologians. For centuries it stood at the heart of two of the world's great religions: To Christians it was Hagia Sophia, Church of the Holy Wisdom, mother church of the Orthodox faith, and of the thousand year old Byzantine Empire. To Muslims, it became Ayasofya Camii, Mosque of Holy Wisdom and jewel of Istanbul. Today its one of the two most important Museums in Turkey.
As for this shot, it is all about location !! When choosing hotel in Istanbul I made sure that at least one blue hour (particularly the morning one) could be taken from a place as close to the hotel as possible. At the end this shot was taken from the hotel's top terrace, therefore I only had to go 2 floors up. I only wish all morning blue hour shoots would be so easy, plus that delicious breakfast with such a view after I finished with the photography was just an added bonus.

strobist.com how to : 1 580EX with homemade beauty dish (set manually at 1/8 at 24mm), handheld by a friend on the top left. shot with 17-40mm f4.0 L USM at 17mm iso 200 1/80 f5.6 trigger via canon ste-2.
additional notes :
a. recommend to use lens hood at wide angle.
b. a 26" inch diameter dish would be ideal, shoot not more than 3ft from the subject, placement right above the forehead - else it wont look so flattering.
c. personally, you don't need to use aperture more than f8 because it will drain the flash batteries and might be an overkill for a small confine space.
d. always good to refer to 580EX manual if you are not sure. i rtfm :S

The Hungarian Parliament Building (Hungarian: Országház, literally country house) is the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, one of Europe's oldest legislative buildings, a notable landmark of Hungary and a popular tourist destination of Budapest. It lies in Lajos Kossuth Square, on the bank of the Danube, in Budapest. It is currently the largest building in Hungary. Similar to the Palace of Westminster, the Parliament Building is in the Gothic Revival style; it has a symmetrical facade and a central dome. It is 268 m (879 ft) long and 123 m (404 ft) wide. Its interior includes 10 courtyards, 13 passenger and freight elevators, 27 gates, 29 staircases and 691 rooms (including more than 200 offices). With its height of 96 m (315 ft), it is one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest, along with Saint Stephen's Basilica. The number 96 refers to the nation's millennium, 1896, and the conquest of the later Kingdom of Hungary in 896. The main façade faces the River Danube, but the official main entrance is from the square in front of the building. Inside and outside, there are altogether 242 sculptures on the walls.
