BNSF MOW workers install rail joining bars on a section of 40 foot panel track that has just been laid into place by a pair of front end loaders, as part of the track replacement project on Main #1 through the station at Fullerton California.
The last time this was done was 14 years ago and thanks to the strike at the port, the early part of December turned out to be a good time to do this project.
I would like to thank the crew who were gracious enough to allow me to photograph their activities that night - the opening in the crowd watching the loader was not by accident.

On Friday, September 8, FDNY members, friends and family of Firefighter Nicholas DeMasi gathered at 77th St. and 21st Ave. in Astoria for a street co-naming ceremony in his honor. Firefighter DeMasi joined the Department as a Firefighter in 1984 at Engine 261, and spent 20 years serving with the FDNY. His name was one of 17 added to the World Trade Center Memorial Wall in 2016, which honors those who died of illness related to their work in the World Trade Center rescue and recovery efforts.

Nurses Joined the March to ICE Field Office to Demand an End to the Forced Separation of Families and Detention of Immigrant Children — June 19, 2018.
“As nurses of El Paso who care for the border community in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert we are outraged that the U.S. government is forcefully separating children from their parents and detaining them in tents in Tornillo,” said the El Paso nurses in a recent statement by NNOC-Texas.
The current conditions in Tornillo are absolutely harmful to the health and well-being of the detained children say El Paso nurses, and they are absolutely opposed to the plan to expand this practice to Fort Bliss, a desert military base that is larger than the state of Rhode Island and inaccessible to the general public and to local services including healthcare, education and community.
NNOC-Texas is affiliated with National Nurses United (NNU), the nation’s largest and fastest growing union of registered nurses with 150,000 members nationwide.
NNOC/NNU have signed on to a letter, circulated by the Border Network for Human Rights, demanding that Attorney General Sessions, Secretary of Homeland Security Nielsen, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Azar.
• Act immediately to stop the detention and incarceration of migrant children at the border and elsewhere in the United States. Refrain from using the Tornillo Port-of-Entry and Fort Bliss for the mass incarceration of immigrant children.
• Put an immediate stop to family separation such that parents and children are reunited and allowed to pursue their claims outside of detention.
• Cease and desist from turnbacks of asylum seekers so that the fear expressed by all who seek asylum is recognized, respected, and granted due process.

"L" was a beautiful young woman. Her husband left her a number of years before she became ill. One son was away, and had joined a sect. The other son, 15 years old, was still at home and at school. "L" was not a Christian.
She had an obstruction and was severely jaundiced. Her precious 15 year old remained with his mother day and night. She underwent surgery, but soon began to deteriorate. She had one Chemotherapy treatment, but it did not help her. I accompanied her to her Oncologist. He took one look at her and then said, "I cannot do anything more for you." She reached over his desk, and pleaded with him, "Please help me!" He was cold towards her. I gently led her out of the Doctor's rooms. We travelled for quite a distance in absolute silence, and then she asked me if she would live until Christmas. I gently told her, "No." And she was silent again. We arrived home and her son came to meet her. As she got out of the car she said to him, "I am going to die. I am going to die." Her son was shattered. "You can do it, Mom. You can fight!"
The son who was away, could not be released, and so I contacted the people and told them that his mother was dying. They eventually consented. When I returned to visit her that day, as I approached her she was overjoyed. She said to me, "I am so excited. Yes, I am excited that my son is coming home, but most of all because I accepted JESUS as my Savior." A friend from her work had visited her and invited her to hand her life over to JESUS. Joy filled this critically ill woman.
This faithful young son was at her side day and night. He was exhausted! Shortly afterwards "L" phoned me to say that she was vomiting blood. I went to her immediately and brought her back with me, so that I could nurse her in my first 4 bed clinic. I asked her which color bed she preferred. She chose the yellow one, that I called "Chrysolite" which was a yellow crystal, and mentioned in the Bible. We laughed together, because she was so yellow from the jaundice and she chose the yellow bed.
We spent much time together as I read to her from the BIBLE. She would call out a number, and I would read that Psalm to her.. After a few days, she wanted to go back home. I agreed and she knew to phone me if she started to haemorrhage once again. She did shortly afterwards, but she could enjoy having both of her sons for about two days.
"L" was vomiting again. She became weaker and weaker, and for two days did not respond. I called her sons. They had been so very brave all the way through. I told them that their dear Mommy was going. They sobbed uncontrollably. I put my arms around them and held them. One son 19 years old, one 15 years, and no one to take care of them. Their father was not interested. Shortly before "L" died, her ex-sister-in-law agreed to take care of her 15 year old son. After her funeral, the oldest son returned to where he was stationed with this sect.
I went to "L's" home. How said! Her youngest son was there alone. I asked him if he had eaten and he told me that one of the residents in the apartment had given him a little cake to eat! Shortly before she died, her employer deposited money in her account, and so this precious son manged to pay the outstanding bills, and he could also buy some food, until the kind sister-in-law took him to her home. I never heard from him again. BUT WHAT A PRECIOUS SON!
