Joining in and posting a crochet pic.
Is it just a co-incidence but I have noticed that if I crochet before I go to sleep, I tend to sleep more soundly. Maybe it's because the day has been unravelled and the only dreams are those of wool and future crochet projects.
My Granny first taught me some basic crochet when I was very young. Unfortunately, I didn't learn about corners and turning stitches so my projects were 'unusual' to say the least.
For some strange reason, last June I decided (with the help of Youtube) to start over and I've never stopped since!
St Andrew, Marks Tey, Essex
Here we are in Colchester suburbia, where the hellish junction of the A120 coming in from Stansted Airport joins the busy A12 beside the railway line from London to Ipswich and Norwich. But St Andrew is out in the fields, remote enough from road and railway to be a peaceful spot. And welcoming too, for this church is open every day. On my most recent visit, a sign on the door invited Pokemon Go players to come in and recharge their phones and use the church's free wifi.
As so often in Essex, the tower is wooden, but unusually here it attempts to replicate the 14th Century tower destroyed during the siege of Colchester. Inside too, not much old survives, and the interior has been refloored and reseated by the evangelical congregation. However, the remarkable, even startling star of the show here is one of England's few surviving wooden medieval fonts, fully in a Perpendicular style.
While the millennium window, featuring parish scenes of past, present and future, will not be to everyone's taste, there are two wholly excellent 20th Century windows. On the south side of the nave is a memorial window to the stained glass artist Arthur Erridge by J Wippell & Co, 1968. It depicts St Luke painting the portrait of the Blessed Virgin and Christ child, and was probably to Erridge's design. At the east end is FC Eden's magnificent Christ in Majesty of 1925. You can spend an enjoyable few minutes trying to identify all the saints and prophets.
Under the tower are sofas and floor cushions for the local youth, and above them one of Essex's best war memorials, a brass plaque depicting both St Michael and an English Tommy.

Lynch Cove Run Beautiful and Clean again! - Today (5/23/14) twenty eight volunteers joined Clean Bread and Cheese Creek to give up the beginning of their Memorial Day weekend and helped us remove 87 bags of trash from Lynch Cove Run! This included several larger items that could not fit in bags including two bicycles, a shopping cart, a manual typewriters, an unopened drug testing kit, a change purse with Drivers License and credit cards (all expired 2 years ago)and an unopened bag of Play Sand from Hechinger’s!
We would especially like to thank the staff of the Daily Record Newspaper whom made up most of our volunteers at this event. We would also like to thank the Regional Management Corporation who volunteered to properly dispose of all the trash we pulled from the stream today! Thank you to the Merritt Park Baptist Church for allowing us to use their property to base this cleanup from,

Join the Friends of the Braden River Branch Library as they welcome author Diane Robertson on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
The author of four books and publisher of hundreds of short stories and magazine articles, Robertson will present an interactive workshop, “Write Your Life Story” where she teaches several ways to capture your memories in writing. Expect to write at the event, so bring either a laptop computer, or pen/pencil and notebook to the library.
Seating for this free program will be available on a first come, first serve basis. No registration is necessary.
Special programs such as this are made possible by funds provided by the Friends of the Braden River Library. The Friends are a support organization for Manatee County’s Braden River Branch Library. Monies raised by the Friends go toward programs and services that tax dollars alone cannot provide.
