The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.

Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church

Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.

There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

Heaven joined us for a small group shoot at the Caldwell Underpass on a lovely day in May 2021. I tend to shoot with Heaven about once a year (she is very busy); I know that she will come prepared, with a great attitude and plenty of looks. We always have a great time and end up with way too many photos that are post worthy - oh well - I can live with that!

Join me this Summer at the first ever Out of Chicago photography conference. This year’s lineup includes some of the very best photographers from the area as well as photographers from out-of-town. Each of them has their own unique perspective on how to photograph Chicago. So come learn from us! Also, I'll be leading a photowalk through the Chicago River area during the conference and everyone wants to hang out with me, the vulgar photographer with no filter. Right?

Different place, different time but similar scene as my previous post. Field of yellow tulips during heavy storm.

The flower fields in the west of Holland are at their best in April and May. That’s when the spring bulbs, such as tulips and hyacinths are flowering. The cultivation of flower bulbs for commercial purposes started in Haarlem and the surrounding area about 400 years ago. The area between Haarlem and Leiden eventually became known as 'De bollenstreek' - the bulb district. For many years, a large part of the population earned their living from bulbs, whether in nurseries, export, or in industries that supplied the sector. The town of Lisse regarded itself as the centre of the bulb-growing area, boasted a postmark that declared: "Lisse, the centre of the bulb district". The famous flower exhibition "de Keukenhof" can be found here.

The Netherlands produce approximately nine billion flower bulbs annually. Evenly distributed, this number would allow for almost two flower bulbs for every person on the planet. The tulip remains the most popular and recognizable bulb flower. Most people think of the tulip when they think of bulb flowers. The tulip is followed in popularity by the daffodil, the gladiolus, the lily and the crocus.

Most of Yemen's northern frontier with Saudi Arabia traverses the great desert of the peninsula, the Rub' al-Khali (“Empty Quarter”), and until 2000 remained undemarcated, as did the eastern frontier with Oman until 1992.

The Rub’ al Khali (Arabic: الربع الخالي), which translates as Empty Quarter in English, is one of the largest sand deserts in the world, encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula, including southern Saudi Arabia, and areas of Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The desert covers some 650,000 square kilometers (250,000 square miles) (the area between long. 44°30′–56°30′E., and lat. 16°30′–23°00′N). It is one of the most inhospitable places on earth, and entirely uninhabitable.

Preparing some of the fine art for an A gallery show!

The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)

Some (almost) final edits for my Los Angeles Gallery Show! Here's how I do it:

Print: Fuji Crystal Lightjet Metallic front-mounted to 1/4" Acrylic.

Acrylic: 1/4" with regular polished edge

Backing: White aluminum 3mm

Hanging Mechanism: Silver aluminum float box

I'll be using the top-of-the-line, museum-quality gallery format consists of the highest-quality prints on Fujicolor Crystal Archival Paper, front-mounted to UV-resistant protective acrylic, backed by a solid aluminum sheet, and fastened to an aluminum silver frame "float box" for mounting on the wall.

Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

As the mechanism of the ramp works, some tiny brass blades touch, electricity flows and there you have it - the Emperor won't break his legs in the darkness ;) .

Four white lights, two red, exactly as in the Death Star inspection scene in "Return of the Jedi".

I keep wondering whether the updated Endor platform mechanism will be able to lift the new, heavier shuttle.

I joined another 10 photographers for a trip out to watch and capture the wonderful sight of Gannets diving within the view of RSBP Bempton reserve. An awesome experience and despite feeling 'greenish' for some of the time due to boat vibration and sea swell, would recommend this trip to anyone.

Cardiff Met Archers vs Oakland Wovles, Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) match on Saturday 18th March 2023. Game played at the Archers Arena, Cardiff Metropolitan University, in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, during the 2022-23 season.

About the photograph.

Seen in the middle and in the background is the Cardiff Met Archers player, Abigail Yunker in control of the ball, and attempting to dibble past, but two of the Oakland Wolves players (wearing white jersey and shorts) made their move towards her in the hope of blocking her.

Yunker had decided to pass the ball to her teammate Mara Marchizotti wearing jersey number 15, seen on the left side of the photo.

Yunker was born on 26th September 1998 in Whitehouse, Ohio in the United States.

The basketball game finished with the final score of Archers 80 – 73 Wolves.

Many special thanks to Cardiff Met Archers staff, for allowing me to take the photographs from courtside.

About the teams.

The Wales based Cardiff Met Archers started in 1999, as a university basketball team. They have about 19 different teams, range from Under-10s to Seniors, and men’s teams as well as women’s teams.

The women’s senior team (seen here in the photograph) is the only team in a top-level elite franchise-based league. They joined the Women’s British Basketball League when it was first set up in 2014, and to date, are still in the WBBL.

The Oaklands Wolves is an English women’s basketball team based at Oaklands College, in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It was founded in 2009, and started playing in the professional level women’s basketball team from the 2016-17 season onwards.

The Oakland Wolves also includes a men’s team in the second tier National Basketball League.

Thank god I took my cam with me in the morning when driving to work. Seems like I already knew evening will bring some great stuff. So on the way back home I stopped directly on the east side of Lake Millstatt in Döbriach. Had to wait for over one hour, but this was definitely worth it. Got some great shots and time-lapse will come the next days, so be prepared ;)
